I also say hogwash to the realism. Detroit is 1-12 or 1-13 in playoff games in the Super Bowl era. The very idea of them making it to one is a permanent stain upon this entire (good so far) dynasty. As far as drafting quarterbacks like that and having them do that well -- Andre Ware, Heisman Trophy Winner, says hello. As does Rodney Peete, runner-up for said award.

We are offered a 1st for QB Griffith. Hmm.

So am I willing to send my backup QB Griffith, who’s solid, to the Bucs for what will likely be a later 1st?

Griffith – There are 17 QBs with a 60+ pot rating in the league. 5 are 51+, and 4 are 50 precisely, so Griffith is around the 23-28th best QB based on how you rate those in their 50s.

In any challenge that is draft-only, getting an extra first rounder without violating any of my rules (only takes offers that come my way), feels pretty nifty and keen. Is it something I want to do? My hesitation comes from one simple thing. What happens if Himes is injured this season. He’s been durable so far and hasn’t even been probable once. But this dynasty is one Himes injury away from falling back a 5-11 abyss, and who would I lean on? UFA QB Howard Rose?

On the other hand, Griffith is likely to never be worth a 1st. Here is a team, the Bucs, who’s best QB is Jimmy G, in the low 40s. So they are willing to make a move for a QB right now. Can I afford to pass? Take a first round off the table for one of my current conference rivals?

And frankly, this is the only year this matters. I can easily take a QB in the draft next year and make it a priority.

I take the offer from the Bucs.

Here’s Nunn on the right with my stud UFA singing of Perry. We don’t need a C that good, but you don’t turn from talent in this league. I thought Langdon was going to be a solid backup, but I’ll likely cut him soon

We finish the preseason 2-2

Post Preseason

DE Nunn – 28/71 – 35/72 – 38/77
WLB Fain – 32/61 – 39/61 – 41/66
FS Kurt Peyrouse – 41/63 – 48/62 – 47/62
P Garcia – 48/67 – 55/65 – 55/69
DT Cary Hanlon – 33/50 – 35/49 – 35/46
WR Stanley Duncan – 20/35 – 22/34 – 21/31
OG Streepy – 10/45 – 14/44 – 14/41
CB Strickland – 33/57 – 38/58 – 38/58
OC Weston Langdon – 33/47 – 36/47 – 36/47

UFA OC Perry – 39/74 – 39/80

I make the following moves

I cut Walt Finger and K Boone for an UFA I signed, Ted Hines. Boone was just 50% from all FGs last year, 6 for 12.

One of my QBs UFAs boomed a little – Howard Rose, but the others ebbed, so I cut them

I cut some draftees – Langdon, CB Maurer, DE Knaack,

I cut P Newman. He had dropped in value and ability considerably.
