I understand that it didnt work out for the Dodgers and I wouldnt have let Kershaw face Rendon(who crushes leftys) unless absolutely necessary but was Baez even available? Could Jansen have went two? Im trying to figure out what better options Roberts had? This crappy part of baseball is the best team rarely wins the World Series. Houston and LA would have been a fantastic World Series but who knows if Houston will even get out of the 1st round.
Agree with Kelly though. Once he starts shaky like he was earlier in the season he implodes. Needed to be pulled right away. Last edited by jbergey22 : 10-10-2019 at 12:15 AM. |

Kelly blitzed through the 9th. The problem was they left him in the 10th.
I dont get not trusting Maeda/Kelly up 3-1, but trusting them to hold 3-3 isn't much different |

The fucking Cardinals are going to win the World Series and everything about baseball stinks.

LOL but Yankees/Dodgers would have been a true underdog story? Hey I get it I'm a Bengals fan and a Cardinals fan (left the Reds after the Eric Davis era but didn't care for NFC football so always stayed on with the Bengals). Clearly I'm pulling for Cards but would find it hilarious that Bryce Harper thought his best chance at a title was with the Phillies and would love to see the Nat's win it all if they beat the Cardinals. |

Braves wasting another post season opportunity and the Dodgers getting bounced. All is as it should be.

I can hate all of them! I guess I'm pro-Nats at this point. The Yankees and Cardinals are right out. I don't think Tampa should be rewarded for staying so cheap when they could afford to do more. Houston is pretty unobjectionable, but I dislike dynasties. So, go Nats?

A certain unpopular politician was said to have made the trains run on time too. Not sure that makes a him a guy you want around though. Acuna will not be on the Braves roster by Oct 2021. And he'll never last with any franchise more than three season. He's simply too much of a little bitch to put up with.

Cardinals going Mikolas game 1, Wainwright game 2 (Pitching at home), Flaherty game 3, Hudson in the bullpen for game 1 and 2 and then pitching Game 4, then it starts all over.
Wainwright gets 2 home starts. Seems like a poster on here mentioned something about him being a big game pitcher and his awesome home stats. Gotta hit the ball though.

So that would be his excuse for the same stunt in the regular season as well? Sometimes the more obvious answer IS the answer.

Sounds terrible. You know what, I feel bad for you so we'll (Mets) will just take him off your hands. And we'll even throw in Keon Broxton so you don't have to worry about the roster spot. Broxton runs out everything.
No, no... you are welcome.

He is in the short list of best players in the league not named Trout. I get it, you don’t like the lack of hustle at times, and it’s a fair criticism, but to want the team to run him out of town because of it is absurd. You want a 40-40 guy who makes you scratch your head at times or a 18-5 guy who “plays with hustle” |

The athletic has an article that kills the conspiracies around MLB's baseballs. It seems Rawlings has been making tweaks to the baseball trying to make one that doesn't require a pregame mud rubdown. In doing that they created a ball that's too round/smooth. And it takes about 6 months from production for balls to go into play. So the timing here would be they realized something was wrong early this year and went to work on getting it fixed. |

Wasn't Dave Martinez supposed to be bad enough to be fired earlier this season? Is he getting lucky now?
This is more a commentary on me having no clue how to judge an MLB manager's worthiness today.

October 2021 seems soon (unlikely to be traded during arb/control years), but I won't be surprised if he follows the Puig/Manny Ramirez type path where he produces wherever he goes but multiple organizations decide they're better off without him.

Also, I didn't say that it wouldn't take a hell of an offer. But somebody will start thinking "I bet WE can change him" ... which is a sure route to ending up as the next team deciding to move him along.

At this point I don't think that's fair with Puig. Certainly the Dodgers got rid of him, but the Reds would have kept him if he had a longer contract or if they were in the playoff race. He started terribly slowly this year, but he was very hot when he was traded.
edit: And Puig was great in Cincy, a good teammate and a great guy in the community.

Rumors were early this year that it would be Rick Honeycutt's last year as the pitching coach in LA. Or at the very least that it would be coming to an end soon.
Looks like Honeycutt is taking the fall for Roberts in the aftermath of the LA failure, and has been reassigned as a special assistant with the team. The team made not mention of his health and it appears that instead that he is bearing the brunt as both Roberts and Andrew Friedman are staying on with the team next year. Honeycutt has served the team through 4 managers, and has been one of the most stabilizing features over a 14 year period. He played for LA back in the day and I have to say, this could have been done better.

Will the Nats pitching shut down the big bats of the Yanks or Astros?

Was a rough finish for the two teams I was rooting for (Cards and Twins). At this point, I'm rooting for the Nationals to bring the trophy back to the NL.
For the Cards, that was ugly. Way too many strikeouts in this lineup. I can handle Goldy and Ozuna given their production, but Fowler (10 in 33 ABs), DeJong (14/30), Carp (6/13) and Bader (6/12) is awful. We still have Carp and Fowler on the books for 3 and 2 more years respectively - those are some ugly deals right now. |

I can't speak for the Ms and Mets, but that doesn't surprise me with the Angels. Early on in the season when La Stella was healthy, the Angels were a very strong offensive team. That was ironically before Upton, Ohtani and Simmons got back from injury. They actually got worse when those guys came back (although Shohei did fine). Upton and Simmons never got going, La Stella got hurt in July, and Trout, Ohtani and Upton were all shut down for most of September. A healthy and performing to their talent Angels lineup is probably a top ten hitting club. Now... as for the rotation...

The Cardinals have some serious issues in the hitting department. We strike out probably more than any other team and the Nationals struck us out at a record pace, in fact, Corbin set an NLCS record with 10k's in 4 innings. It's an odd thing.. we were so patient with the Braves in the last game where we got 10 runs in the first inning. Then we go right back to swinging at everything in the NLCS. It's the whole team too.. I have no idea how they plan on fixing this going forward. Maybe they will embrace the youth movement next season and quit trying to resurrect veteran players. |

Yeah, problem is we are stuck with Carp and Fowler. I would play the best players and if that means Fowler is in AAA, so be it. Carp I think could rebound and atleast play the Gyrko "super infield sub" role. They need to bring in a legit starting pitcher with Adam's money as well.

Problem is Carps contract is a killer. May as well trade him to a team in the AL and pay $15 mil a year of that contract.
Ozuna and Waino come off the books. Drop Carp and Fowler somehow and then sign Cole and Rendon. I can dream

The job of the Astros front-office is to win games, and pennants.
