DICE Baseball- 1998 MLB Cup Qualifying

This is a project that I started over on the Table Top Sports Delphi forums, and I'm bringing it over here to see if there is a following.

Being a big fan of the Soccer World Cup, I've a hankering to try something I doubt has ever been done, or if it has, very rarely. I'm going to do a 1998 MLB Cup, with Qualifying Rounds. This thread will consist of just the Qualifying Rounds, I'll make another thread for the actual 1998 MLB Cup.
Here's how this is going to work: All 6 divisions (NL East, NL Central, NL West, AL East, AL Central, AL West) will run as their own qualifying group.

For the purposes of making things even, I've taken Houston out of the NL Central and placed them in the AL West (A few years early, but oh well). So 5 teams in a qualifying group (Division), and each team will play each other team in their group twice (1 home, 1 away) for a total of 8 games per team. By my count, this is 20 games per group, 120 games total for the qualifying round. Top 2 teams from each group qualify for the 1998 MLB Cup, with the top 4 3rd place teams in each group also qualifying, to make a 16 team MLB Cup. From there, I will put the teams in pods, much like the World Cup drawing (More on that much, much later).

The scoring will be just like the actual soccer cups, 3 points for a win, 1 for a tie. In the qualifying rounds, ties WILL be allowed. Qualifying rounds will have 9 inning games, NO extra innings.

Tiebreakers are as follows:

1. Head to head
2. Run Differential

If other tiebreakers are needed, then I will decide at the time.

Roster rules for this will be much the same as my previous DICE Tournaments. Any hitters that have a card MUST start at least 1 game in the qualifying round. No hitter can play in more than 3 games in a row. After starting 3 games in a row, the hitter MUST sit the next game. Credit for a start happens once the player has played 3 defensive innings and had 1 official at-bat (I am using injuries and ejections and suspensions for this, as I always do, so if a player gets ejected or injured before he gets an AB or plays 3 defensive innings, he does NOT get credit for a start). If a player is ejected, he will be automatically suspended for the next game. If a player is injured, I will be making an injury chart based on a players injury rating. Injury lengths can range from 0-3 games. There is a section on the special chart for suspension from failing a drug test. If that happens, I just add 1 game to what it would have been if the player was injured. For instance, if a player has an injury rating that would have them miss 1 game due to injury, for the drug related suspension, they will miss 2 games. I will be calculating how many games each hitter must start in the Qualifying round based on how many games he started in the real 1998 season. No player will be able to start more than 6 games in the Qualifying Round.

For pitchers, it's much more simple, I'll have a starting rotation obviously, and then for the bullpen, I'll have it set up so that no player can make another game appearance before every reliever has pitched in a game, to make it as even as possible. For example, if Mark Wohlers (Atlanta Braves) has pitched in a game, then every other reliever must pitch in a game before Wohlers can be used again. This makes things equal, lets me use everybody, and can really shake things up.

As far as players who played on multiple teams go, if a player played on 2 teams for the 1998 season, it'll be very simple: no matter how long he was with each team for the real 1998 season, in this replay, he will be with the first team he played on for the first 4 games, on the second team he played on for the last 4 games, plus the MLB Cup, if that team qualifies.

For players who played on 3 or more teams, it's a little more tricky. Here, I have to take into consideration how much time a player spent on each team. There are several players who played on 3 teams, and some of the split formats I'm using are 2-3-3, 2-2-4, 3-1-4 in a rare case, or others. I am trying to give the most consideration to the team he played the most games with.

This has always been the trickiest part when I do something like this, making sure players are playing on the right team when they should be. I've messed this up more than once in previous projects, but that's ok, as long as every player plays in at least 1 game with all the teams he played for in the actual 1998 MLB season, that's the biggest thing.

I am halfway through this project, and I got sidetracked, so the round by round reporting through 5 rounds just isn't going to happen. There have been a few injuries and drug related suspensions, so a few key players are missing multiple games. Because of that, and of course, the randomness of the dice roll, there are some surprising results so far. I will just post the standings for each group through the first 5 rounds, and going forward, I will have a round by round report, with a quick game recap in each qualifying group. If anybody wants specific info as far as a specific result, who is injured, etc, please let me know and I will provide it, but at this point I'm ready to move forward with the second half of group play.

Here are the standings for the National League qualifying groups:
