The Best Team of the Decade(s) (OOTP)

So, without sports, the arguments usually go back to "what was the best team of all-time?"

I don't think we can truly answer that, even with games like OOTP. It's just so different a game from the 1920's to 2020. But one thing we can do, is look at a decade and try to determine which teams were the best of the best, so to speak.

24 teams will comprise each "Decade's League", normalized to the final year of that decade. I will try to use published sources for the teams to put in:

For example, the decade just completed (2010-19), I used this article:

Best MLB teams of decade 2010-19 | MLB.com

I tried to keep teams in the right geographic area/league, but sometimes that was not possible.

Here's the breakdown of the 2010's decade setup:

(Again, normalized to 2019)

AL East
2013 Red Sox
2018 Red Sox
2015 Blue Jays
2018 Yankees

AL Central
2017 Houston Astros *
2015 Kansas City Royals

2016 Cleveland Indians

AL West
2014 San Francisco Giants (NL)

2014 Kansas City Royals
2019 New York Yankees

2011 Philadelphia Phillies
2015 New York Mets

NL Central
2011 St Louis Cardinals

I'm going to post one box score a day of simming (and probably a week or two every day). Don't worry, I won't favor my Red Sox teams. except on opening day

Red Sox Shut Out Indians
Progressive Field was the site of the home opener for the Cleveland 2016 Indians. The contest featured a prime matchup between Chris Sale of the visiting Boston 2018 Red Sox and Corey Kluber of the Indians. The final score was 2-0, the Red Sox getting the win. Corey Kluber turned in the best performance.

The Red Sox got a big boost from shortstop Xander Bogaerts who had a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning off Indians hurler Corey Kluber. It was his 3rd hit of the season and put Boston 2018 on top, 1-0.

"It was just a matter of executing," said Boston 2018 manager Harry Wagler.

Mets Prevail, 4-2, Over Washington 2019
New York 2015 rode a fine outing from starter Matt Harvey to victory over the Washington 2019 Nationals at Nationals Park. The final score was 4-2. Harvey, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up no walks. Jack Leathersich picked up the save, his 1st.

Curtis Granderson swatted a 2-run home run for New York 2015 in the top of the sixth. The right fielder went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and batted in 3.

Granderson attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."

New York 2015, now 2-0, has played well in the early going.

Dodgers Subdue Chicago 2015, 5-3
The Los Angeles 2019 Dodgers defeated the Chicago 2015 Cubs, 5-3. Doing his part was third baseman Justin Turner, who went 2 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. Los Angeles 2019 reliever Yimi Garcia picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Jason Hammel was collared with the loss. The win pushes Los Angeles 2019 to a record of 2-2.

A. J. Pollock helped out the Los Angeles 2019 cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the pinch hitter drove in one run.

"The fans pay the tickets and help us do what we do, so we like to put on a show for them," Turner told the Los Angeles 2019 Chronicle.

Rangers Walk It Off for 4th Win of Season
The Texas 2011 Rangers faced a tough opponent in Boston 2013 pitcher Jon Lester, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington by a final score of 3-2. Lester went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Neftali Feliz, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit. The Rangers, now 4-1, have been playing some good baseball.

Yorvit Torrealba was the walk-off hero for Texas 2011. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Rangers catcher hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"Been a rough stretch for us," said Boston 2013 manager Kyle Heustess.

Encarnacion Excels, Toronto 2015 Blows Out Kansas City 2014
Toronto 2015 designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion had 5 ribbies while helping his team defeat the Kansas City 2014 Royals, 13-3. The winner was R A Dickey, who threw 93 pitches over 7.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 3 runs on 8 hits. The Blue Jays, with just their 1st win in 6 games, have played uninspired baseball so far.

Devon Travis contributed a productive at-bat in the top of the second. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he drew a walk. It was one at-bat that helped Toronto 2015 get the win.

Travis told a Toronto 2015 Today reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.

Big Papi with two late homers, the 2nd one part of a back-to-back-to-BACK spree.

Ortiz Helps Boston 2013 Cruise to 10-1 Win
The Boston 2013 Red Sox downed the Boston 2018 Red Sox, 10-1, at Fenway Park II. The Red Sox were led by David Ortiz. He belted 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Boston 2013 reliever Alex Wilson was the winner. His record is now 1-1. Craig Kimbrel took the loss. Koji Uehara got credit for the save for Boston 2013. It was his 2nd of the year.

Ortiz belted 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice against the Red Sox. With the game tied in the top of the eighth inning, he hit a two run homer that put Boston 2013 in front, 3-1.

"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Ortiz said.

Boston 2013 goes to 3-6.

No game recap, as I hit quick sim instead of watched the game, but the Mets score six times in the first three innings on the way to an 8-1 win. Niese scattered six hits over seven innings for the win. Oswalt only went 2 and a third, giving up six runs for the loss.

Swihart Delivers WALK-Off Win for Red Sox
Boston 2018 picked up a win at Fenway Park II, toppling the Kansas City 2014 Royals, 5-4. Pitcher Chris Sale was one of the reasons the Red Sox triumphed. The loss drops the Royals to 3-8.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Boston 2018 first baseman Blake Swihart, facing Wade Davis, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Red Sox the 5-4 win.

"We'll savor this win," Sale told the Boston 2018 Bulletin, "then get ready for the next game."
