2020 March Madness


Welcome..... to the 2020 NCAA College Basketball Selection Show


I am your host, Greg Gumble



Along side with me is Clark Kellogg and Seth Davis.

Lets get right to it and announce the #1 seeds across each region.



The number 1 overall seed goes to the Kansas Jayhawks. A fantastic season by Bill Self winning the Big 12 with an overall record of 28-3.




The other number 1 seeds belong to the Baylor Bears and Scott Drew finishing runner up to Kansas in the Big 12 with a 26-4 record.

Another fantastic season for Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs, winning the West Coast Conference Regular Season and tournament championship. They were 31-2 on the year.

And congratulations to the Dayton Flyers and head coach Anthony Grant, coming out of the Atlantic 10 conference with a 29-2 regular season record and surprising almost everyone with the 4th #1 seed.

Next we will announce the brackets.......................

Siena and their size was too much for Prairie View A&M. Siena outrebounded Prairie View A&M on the offensive glass 22 to 7. Elijah Burns was able to score 19 points for Siena while Manny Camper chipped in 16 points on 12 rebounds playing all 40 minutes. Siena will take on Gonzaga on Friday.

A very strong balanced victory by UCLA as they had 4 players over 10 points. Cody Riley was the player of the game with 12 points and 9 rebounds on 5-7 shooting. Tyrell Terry led Stanford with 16 points. UCLA will go on to face 6th seeded BYU on Thursday.

An amazing performance by Jibri Blount(14-19, 35 points, 9 rebounds) led North Carolina Central to a hard fought victory over Robert Morris. Robert Morris was led by A.J. Bramah and his 10 points and 10 rebounds. North Carolina was able to overcome 11-20 shooting from 3-point range by Robert Morris. North Carolina Central will face #1 seeded Kansas on Friday.

Overcoming a 15 point deficit Richmond was able to defeat Wichita State in overtime. Nick Sherod had 20 points for the Spiders while Grant Golden dominated on the glass with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Wichita State senior Jaime Echenique wraps up his Shockers careers with a 23 point and 11 rebound performance. Richmond will move on to play the defending National Champions Virginia on Friday.

First Round

A fantastic offensive game by the Gaels led them to a victory over Oklahoma to start the tournament. They shot 59 percent from the field and 61 percent from 3 point range. St Mary's was paced by Malik Fitts and his 31 points while Jordan Ford chipped in 21. A solid game for Brady Manek for Oklahoma putting up 20 points.

Florida State was able to hold off Northern Kentucky with some great defense because the offense today was just not clicking. Florida State won despite shooting 38 percent from the field and 28 percent from 3-point range. Devin Vassell spearheaded the offense with 14 points along with 5 steals on defense. Dantez Walton topped Northern Kentucky with 13 points.

An impressive performance for a Big 10, as Indiana throttled USC 75-56 with 41 points coming from the bench. Deveonte Green led the Hoosiers with 17 points. For USC, they were led in scoring by Onyeka Okongwu.

In a tightly contested defensive battle Michigan was able to pull it out with a big 3-pointer with under a minute left by David Dejukius. They were able to hold down All-American candidate Sam Merrill to 7 points. Eli Brooks had 14 points for Michigan while Utah State was led by Justin Bean and his 15 point 12 rebound performance.

Dayton was never really in danger of being upset, however Winthrop refused to quit and made them work until the very end. Winthrop surprisingly outrebounded the #1 seed 45-32. Dayton was led in scoring by Ryan Mikesell and Obi Toopin with 22 and 19 respectively. Winthrop was topped by Josh Ferguson with his 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Providence made a late charged ending the game on a 15-5 run to almost walk away with a dramatic victory. However, LSU was able to hold on and defeat Providence by 3. LSU was led by Emmitt Williams and his 13 points. Alpha Diallo had 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists for Providence.

South Dakota St offered a scare to #2 seeded Villanova and if it wasnt for some sloppy play late in the 2nd half, North Dakota St may have worn the glass slipper. The Bison shot very well but ultimately were done in for by the 18 turnovers and a costly technical foul when the score was 50-49. Villanova got tremendous performances from Collin Gillespie with 27 points and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Tyson Ward topped North Dakota St with 17 points.

Creighton took care of business in their first round matchup against Belmont cruising to a 13 point victory. They only turned the ball over 4 times and shot 52 percent from the field. Marcus Zagarowski led them in scoring with 18 points. As for Belmont, Tyler Scanlon was able to put up 15 points while Grayson Murphy has 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Louisville was able to survive a scare against a feisty Liberty squard. Louisville was able to dominate on the glass by 14 in which Dwayne Sutton had 21 rebounds. All-American Jordan Nwora led the Cardinals in scoring with 21. Scottie James led the Flames with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Jalen Ray had a wonderful game for Hofstra with 21 points on 5 3 pointers but he will always remember what might have been as his game winning shot rattled out as time expired. Seton Hall will consider themselves lucky as they barely escaped despite holding a 10 point lead in the 2nd half. Myles Powell paced Seton Hall with 27 points.

Xavier was able to come back from 15 points down to shock Iowa 70-62. Star forward Luke Garza was in foul trouble most of the game and ended his brilliant career with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Joe Wieskamp had 16 points for the Hawkeyes. Xavier was led by Jason Carter and his 16 points.

In a very well played team by both teams, Duke was able to overcome a 3 point halftime deficit to knock off Little Rock. Tre Jones played all 40 minutes for Duke and led them with 18 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds. Ben Coupet had 16 points for Little Rock.

(5)Auburn 76 (-5.5) vs (12)Akron 79

Auburn was 20 down at one time and was able to get back within 3 towards the end but came up just a bit short. Akron was able to knock down 11 3 pointers. The Zips were led in scoring by Loren Cristian Jackson with 24. Austin Wiley was a force in the post for Auburn with 21 points and 14 rebounds.

BYU was able to hold off a surging UCLA team with a 2 point victory. The Bruins held a 33 to 4 free throw edge, however BYU was able to outshoot them inside the paint and from 3 point range to hold on. Yoeli Childs and Jake Toolson had 17 points for BYU, while Chris Smith put in 21 points for UCLA.

(2)San Diego St 82 (-15.5) vs (15)Eastern Washington 72

A nice performance from San Diego St as they led from start to finish and shot 53 percent from the field. The Aztecs were led in scoring by Matt Mitchell, scoring 24 points with 8 rebounds. Jordan Schakel also chipped in 21 for San Diego St. Kim Aiken tried his best to lead Eastern Washington to victory with 21 points.

A strong start for Illinois led by Ayo Dosunmu and his 23 points. Kofi Cockburn dominated the glass for the Fighting Illini with 18 boards. Cincinnati was led by Keith Williams who tallied 14 before fouling out after just 16 minutes.

First Round

North Carolina Central put up a great fight but in the end the Jayhawks were just too much. Kansas received huge games from Devon Dotson with 30 points and Marcus Garrett with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 steals. Jibri Blount came back to earth a bit from his 35 point game in the play in game, shooting 5-13 scoring 13 points with 14 rebounds.

The Nittany Lions exploded out of the gate and never looked back in this one shooting 53 percent, creating 19 turnovers, and cruising to a 94-73 1st round victory. Penn St was led in scoring by Lamar Stevens with 27 points. Gavin Kensmil put up 16 in a losing cause of Stephen F. Austin.

(3)Maryland 77(-11.5) vs (14)UC Irvine 43

Maryland was absolutely dominant today against UC Irvine. They took a 13 point halftime lead and expanded it to 34 by the end of the game. Maryland was led by Jalen Smith who had 12 points and 13 rebounds. UC Irvine was topped by Tommy Rutherford and his 13 points.

(5)Ohio St 63 (-8) vs (12)Yale 68

Yale was able to upset the #5 seeded Buckeyes with some great shooting topping the 50 percent mark. Azar Swain hit a clutch 3 pointer in the final minute to win it for Yale. Paul Atkinson had 17 points for the Bulldogs while Jordan Bruner had 15 points and 12 rebounds. For Ohio State, Kaleb Weston had 14 points with 13 boards.

(8)Arizona State 50 vs (9)Florida 49 (-5)

Noah Locke missed a game winning shot attempt at the buzzer as Arizona St was able to stifle the Florida attack. Arizona St was down 12 points in the 1st half and fought their way back in the 2nd half to take a 7 point lead. Florida's charge at the end came up just a few inches short. Arizona St was led by Remy Martin and his 16 points. Florida in loss was topped by Andrew Nembhard. The Sun Devils were able to win despite shooting 31 percent.

(4)Oregon 85 (-8.5) vs (13)New Mexico St 71

A nice first round victory for the Ducks over the Aggies as Oregon shot 64 percent from the field on their way to a 85-71 victory. A couple brilliant scoring performances for Oregon with Payton Pritchard scoring 26 while Chris Duarte chipped in 23. New Mexico St was led in scoring column by Trevelin Queen with 14.

The defending National Champions had nothing for Richmond today. Richmond behind a dominating performance from point guard Jacob Gilyard and his 23 points and 8 assists defeated Virginia 70-51. Mamadi Diakite led Virginia with 22 points.

(4)Butler 66 (-7.5) vs (13)Bradley 88

Bradley came out in the first half of this game with business on their mind and they didnt let up. They were able to get a 31 point lead at one point in the 2nd half. Butler was outrebounded by 14. Bradley was led in scoring by Nate Kennell. Khalif Battle was able to top Butler with 12 points.

(6)West Virginia 76(-3.5) vs (11)Rutgers 87

Rutgers with a great offensive effort against the press of West Virginia. A balanced effort with 4 players have 10+ points carried Rutgers to a convincing win. They were able to shoot 56 percent from the field and 67 percent(10-15) from 3 point range. Leading the West Virginia squad were Miles McBride and Oscar Tshiebwe with 16 points.

(1)Gonzaga 84 (-19.5) vs (16)Siena 69

Gonzaga was able to defeat Siena soundly by shooting almost 60 percent from the field. The Zags were led in scoring by Corey Kispert and his 22 points. Jalen Pickett put on a great performance for Siena by scoring 30 on 5 3 points.

A smothering defense holding Boston to 28 percent helped Baylor win convincingly in their 1st round matchup. Baylor was led by Devonte Bandoo and his 18 points. Walter Whyte and Max Mohoney topped Boston with 10 each.

(4)Kentucky 71 (-6.5) vs (13)Vermont 56

Kentucky was able to pull away late in the game and gain a comfortable 15 point victory against Vermont. Kentucky was led by Immanuel Quickley and his 20 points. Vermont was paced by Stef Smith with 16 points. Star forward Anthony Lamb was held in check by Kentucky on 4-17 shooting on 9 points.

(3)Michigan St 75 (-10.5) vs (14)North Texas 64

Michigan State rolled to an 11 point victory over North Texas leading the entire game. Michigan State was lead by Cassius Winston and his 22 points. Xavier Tillman was a force in the paint for the Spartans with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

(8)Houston 72 (-3) vs (9)Colorado 62

The scored was tied at 34 at the half, however Houston came out of the gates strong in the 2nd half and cruised to a 72-62 victory. Marcus Sasser has 17 points for the Cougars. The Buffalo's were led in scoring by Tyler Bey and his 16 points.

(8)Marquette 55 vs (9)Arizona 69 (-4.5)

After going to the half with a 1 point lead, Arizona was able to pull away in the 2nd half. It was a night to forget for star senior Markus Howard, after struggling in the first half with foul trouble, the second half didnt get any better 2-12 shooting with 8 points in his final game for Marquette. Illinois was able to end the game on a 15-6 run to upset the Blue Devils. The lack of 3 point shooting in this game really hurt Duke and their comeback attempt. They were 2-10 from the 3 point line while Illinois was 0-10. The Fighting Illini were able to get 13 offensive rebounds which helped them and their subpar shooting today. Illinois was led by Kori Cockburn and his 23 points with an impressive 18 rebounds. Vernon Carey Jr had 20 points for Duke in the losing effort.

After getting out of the gates slow and trailing by 13 points, the Bluejays were able to right the ship and pull away in the 2nd half behind some great 3 point shooting going 11-23. Ty-Shon Alexander led Creighton in scoring with 21 point. Damien Jefferson was able to pull down 13 rebounds for the Blue Jays. Jon Teske got off to a fast start for Michigan and chipped in 21 points.

Akron pulled ahead by 17 points in the 2nd half, however Louisville charged back cutting it to 3 before time ran out on them. A huge game for Loren Cristian Jackson for the Zips with 29 points and 6 assists. All American Jordan Nwora had 20 points and 11 rebounds for Louisville.

Another great defensive performance from the Seminoles as they hold LSU to 35 percent shooting. Florida State was led in scoring by Devin Vassell with 19. In the losing effort, Emmitt Williams was able to chip in 18 points.

This game was very close until mid-way though the 2nd half when Villanova was able to pull away and win by 17 points. Colin Gillespie led the Wildcats in scoring once again with 18 points. Devonte Green led the Hoosiers with 14 points while Traynce Jackson-Davis pulled down 15 rebounds.

An exciting finish as Jalen Crutcher missed a game tying layup at the buzzer allowing St Mary's to advance to the sweet 16. The Gaels were led by Jordan Ford with 18 points and 5 assists. In a losing effort, Obi Toppin had 15 points and 3 blocks for the Flyers.

A huge second half effort holding Xavier to 14 points have moved the Aztecs in to the sweet 16. San Diego St went into halftime down 41-33 however outscored Xavier 36-14 in the second half to advance. Leading the way for San Diego St was Malachi Flynn with 12 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds. Paul Scruggs had a nice game for Xavier with 13 points and 4 assists.

Seton Hall was able to advance by dominating on the offensive glass and grabbing 11 offensive rebounds. Despite shooting 54 percent BYU wasnt able to stay in the game. For Seton Hall All American Myles Powell had 25 points with 5 helpers. Yoeli Childs had 19 points before fouling out the Cougars.

Arizona State played great for the first 32 minutes playing the #1 team in the nation to a 47-47 deadlock, however a 19-0 run by the Jayhawks moved them on to the sweet 16. Kansas was led by Devon Dotson with 25 points and 4 helpers. The Sun Devils were led by Alonzo Verge Jr and his 15 points.

Bradley found out before the game that star forward would be out because of an injury making things even more difficult for the Braves. They were able to come through and defeat Yale 70-61 as they pulled away near the end of the game. Nate Kennell led Bradley with 23 points while Darrell Brown chipped in 20. Yale was led by Paul Atkinson with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

An absolutely amazing shot at the buzzer by Aaron Wiggins of Maryland helped the Terrapins come away with a victory despite blowing a 20 point lead. The Richmond Spiders just didnt want to quit today and kept fighting until finally tying the game with under 2 minutes remaining. Jalen Smith had 24 points point for the Terps while Anthony Cowan Jr helped out with 22. Nick Sherod paced the Spiders with 17 points while Tyler Burton had 10 rebounds.

The Wildcats trailed by 15 going into the halftime break, however in the 2nd half their defense tightened up and they were able to make their free throws on the way to a 78-66 victory. Kentucky was led by Ashton Hagans with 24 points and 5 assists. The Buccaneers were led in scoring by Daivien Williamson with 15 points.

Oregon was able to advance to the sweet 16 with a nice balanced performance against the Nittany Lions. Oregon led the entire way. The Ducks leading scorer was Anthony Mathis with 14 while Payton Pritchard had 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. A nice game for Myreon Jones of Penn St with 17 points as he picked up the scoring load when Lamar Stevens left injured.

A dominating performance from Baylor taking home a 71-54 victory over Arizona. Baylor held Arizona to 35 percent shooting(16 percent from behind the arc) while outrebounding their opponent 40-32. Baylor was led by Freddie Gillespie with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Arizona was led by Zeke Nnaji with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

A very close defensive battle surprisingly to a lot of people went in the favor of Rutgers, who shocked the Spartans with a 61-57 victory. Rutgers was led by Ron Harper Jr and his 12 points on 8 rebounds. Cassius Winston had 16 points for the Spartans while Xavier Tillman chipped in a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Gonzaga was able to advance to the sweet 16 by shooting 51 percent and holding on late while Houston made a charge. Houston just never stopped fighting on the boards gaining 14 offensive rebounds. Gonzaga was led by Corey Kispert with 17 points. Fabian White Jr had 21 points and 9 rebounds in a losing effort for Houston.
