RIP Tommy Lasorda
Lived a long, eventful life. When I saw "Tommy" I actually thought it might be Tommy John because he's hospitalized with Covid.

The line he said I will always remember: "In a race with a pregnant woman, he'd [Bruce Benedict] finish third.

If you just say the word "baseball," he might be the first person who pops into my head.

A few years ago a friend of mine went to a Dodgers spring training game when Mattingly was manager and sat next to Lasorda in the stands. He still brings it up every time Lasorda comes up in conversation. Lasorda absolutely heckled the shit out of Mattingly questioning every decision he made and late in the game told Mattingly if he was managing they would have been out of there 30 minutes ago. He said Lasorda had Mattingly and the entire bench laughing throughout the game and was probably the best experience he's had at a major league game.

RIP - I feel like guys a lot of us grew up with like him, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan (before he became an announcer), Ozzie Smith, Reggie Jackson and Willie Stargell were somehow much bigger personalities than anyone we have seen in quite awhile. Maybe it was all the Baseball Bunch and This Week in Baseball I watched as a kid.
Cannot have a memorial thread of him without bringing in his Kurt Bevacqua rant (NSFW - language): Not sure how many times I've listened to this, but it still cracks me up. |

He will always be the legend. I am in mourning today. Deep sadness in Dodgerland.

Tommy was Baseball to much of America, even as a Dodger hater, Tommy was a national treasure. R.I.P
My favorite memory of him is assaulting the Phillies mascot and destroying the Dodger blow up doll LOL. |

I was never a fan, but understand the importance and legend of Lasorda.
Baseball has lost a legend and we are all worse off for that.
