I should have worked this out - I have a similar thing with the song 'Nothing' by the band A

It's 50:50 whether my iPod resets after the engine is off, so when I hear the opening riffs of 'Nothing' it annoys the hell out of me, even though I like the song.

What threw me was the reverse scenario: I don't mind if it comes on the radio, it's only annoying to me when it comes on instead of the next song on the album or playlist I was listening to.

Mine was/is Aaron Neville's Christmas Album. Soothing, not triggering.

Back in the day my iPhone would do the same with “Fucking Problems” by ASAP Rocky. So yeah, that was interesting on a number of occasions.

possible rewrite

So, in the car recently... listening to the radio (which I really don't do all that often)... and a song by an artist I like a good bit comes on: Accidents will Happen, by Elvis Costello.

I cringe in response, triggered. I let out an audible "ugh I an soooo sick of this song" as I change the station.

If you're unfamiliar, this is probably one of his top ten (or so) songs, but it's far from being his most played song in any ordinary context... wasn't a huge hit, it's not a "high airplay" tune in any format, that I know of. Alison and Radio, Radio both get much more attention these days, I suspect.

So, why did I have such an immediate negative reaction to this exact song?

You are still going to have the huge red herring of everyone thinking you had gotten into an accident. That may be a feature or a bug for this puzzle, but it is still there.

dola: re-write a definite improvement, though. The "so sick of this song" thing is good

I'm still sticking with my answer that the song was performed in 2/3 time
