Another knock to the Bengals to see the Steelers trade up over both of your picks and only your picks to snag a QB that you were almost guaranteed to see picked by Cincy.

That's gonna leave a very sour taste in Bengal mouths.

Glad the Steelers took Rudolph. He's the one QB other than Allen who really didn't impress me when I watched college games. Zero pocket mobility, threw up a lot of contested balls and relied on WR's to win battles.

Good value for Patriots on Day 2, even if it's not too sexy. Getting a 4th + the Bears 2nd next year is classic Patriots, and as long as Brown can get his weight in check a great (and cheap) pass blocking tackle is better value for 2018 than any 3rd rounder would be.

Nah. A backup QB isn't something we care much about. I'm much happier with Hubbard and Jefferson.

I feel for Maurice Hurst. He's a first round, maybe top ten talent, but who knows if he'll even get drafted due to his heart issue. He's lost generational wealth.

Rudolph seems like a decent value in the mid third. If/when he flames out it only came at the cost of one season of Bryant.

The drafts that stood out to me positively were the Giants, Pats, and Broncos.

Not sure what the hell Indy, Buffalo, and Seattle are doing.

Really liked the Round 1 moves - not sure if Wynn fits the tackle archetype, but he seems like a very good and versatile OL. Sony Michel wasn't a position of need, but it you think he isn't an injury risk (or don't care if he is a long term one since he likely won't be kept past his rookie scale deal...) then getting a RB who is comfortable splitting out wide and has his gamebreaking ability is great. Trading for a starting quality player and picking up future picks is always good value, and we all should have seen Braxton Berrios to the Patriots coming!

But past that it left some to be desired. Not so much the QB thing - though I would've like Lauletta in the 4th, I don't think trading up in the 1st for one would have been smart, and if they didn't think another one was a better fit than Etling, fine. But defensively we still needed to get younger, better and faster in the back 7, and is Dawson a really good slot corner, or is he another DB reach that doesn't pan out for us or gets beaten out for a spot by the 7th rounder? Likewise there aren't a lot of complete LB's out there outside the 1st round, but it sure seems those 2 both fit the "run-stuffer who can't cover" and "cover guy who can't set the edge" profiles that end up leading to huge holes in our scheme against the right gameplan.

Indy is trying to create competition in the trenches. If their picks work out right then their OL will actually be a strength rather than a weakness. If the D-Line picks pan out then there should be plenty of competition for the new scheme and maybe they'll have someone to rush the QB. The WRs and RBs drafted should be playthings for the new HC and hopefully there should be a new WR2.

There's definitely a plan in Indy but we'll see how it works out.

Yes, every sports taking head in town is rating this Elways first good to great draft. He did not reach for guys much if at all, drafted players that were known for effort, hard work students of the game and have an enthusiasm for the game with no offfield issues. That was not the case in years past. I would have liked if they traded down to get more picks in the 1st and 2nd round but they kind of had to grab Bradley Chubb. They also signed the Holland kid from Auburn so even if they lose Shaq Barret they are set at Edge for a while.
Was disappointed they did not address the online or cornerback much. I guess that will have to wait till next offseason/draft. Keenum better get rid of the ball fast in 2018 or he I still going to get killed with this line again. Good news they got hm some weapons to take some pressure off.

Woodside is a poor mans Andy Dalton, I love the pick for Cincy. He has a long career ahead of him IMO. Seems like a guy who defies expectations and overachieves despite average measurables.

eh, i could see buffalo winning within 5-7 years perhaps. They're pretty good. Maybe they finally get past NE and get homefield and a well timed blizzard.

I have not done this in awhile but the Baker conversation caused me to go back and take a look. Most of the first year contract have been completed unless the player is on the fifth year option. So how did your team do? I am only going to post the 1st round but if your team was able to find a pretty good player with the 199th pick overall, you can give them credit for that too.

Ah the talented Josh Rosen draft, I remember it well

Wow, what a storyline-laden draft.

4. Cleveland Browns: CB Denzel Ward, Ohio State

5. Denver Broncos: DE Bradley Chubb, NC State

I remember pretty clearly that Chubb was the fairly strong consensus top non-QB player in this draft, with everyone understanding that NYG were taking RB Barkley at 2. Browns had just taken DE Garrett with the top pick, and pairing him with Chubb seemed horrifying... but they reached a bit and took CB Ward (from Ohio State, not to be overlooked).

I think in retrospect, it has panned out well. Ward is seen as a top-15 CB in the leaque, and is going to get a fat new contract. (Sullied only by Jaire Alexander being a later pick in this same draft, and by consensus a better player) But Chubb is (I'd say) still in-progress, and while not a complete bust, he got his 5th year picked up but is not a likely candidate for a huge second contract as a top-tier guy.

I remember watching this draft with my Panthers fan buddy. And when the Saints traded up to 14, he was so mad b/c it was clear that the Saints were going to grab Lamar. Then, when they instead grabbed a DE with single-digit sacks from UT San Antonio he flat out belly laughed in my face.

Lamar has become Lamar. And Davenport is a very talented but always injured player.

31 teams had a chance to grab Lamar and didn't. And I suspect most fanbases regret it in hindsight. But I will say that it isn't just hindsight with the Saints. I distinctly remember being totally convinced that the Saints were going to grab him--and being super psyched by the possibility.

Let's see - Wynn has been a solid starter when healthy, but only healthy about half the time. Hurts a little seeing two very talented WR's picked right after him, though with Ridley's past 6 months that no longer looks like a huge miss. Many people tag Sony Michel as a bust and again it hurts to see a better back in Nick Chubb picked right after him, but he was fine and we don't win the Super Bowl that year without him as a power back. 2nd round pick was a complete bust, did get a solid situational LB in JaWhuan Bentley in the 5th, and the 3rd & 4th round picks were traded for Trent Brown & Eric Rowe who played big roles in winning the Super Bowl that season. Overall C- for the picks, B- once you include the trades?

Looking this up I see places like the Globe etc mentioning we could've drafted Lamar Jackson instead of Sony Michel - and there was some chatter at the time - but I don't see how it would have worked. There was the somewhat fractured relationship between Brady & Belichick, but it wasn't so far gone they couldn't work together & win a title that year. If we had drafted a QB in the 1st instead of pieces that helped that team it may have blown up sooner, plus idk how you develop Lamar in practice if TB12 is still there.

Re: the Saints I'll always wonder how much Sean Payton really loved Taysom Hill. Is there any chance he passed on Lamar then not just because he still had Brees but also because he thought he could develop the "mobile quarterback" already on the roster?
