If it is dry then you don't know how to cook turkey. My turkey is moist and flavorful. This year's was a brine with Cajun spices and orange juice. Just finished carving for transport, and I it tastes fantastic. Thanksgiving isn't the only time of year I do a turkey. I usually smoke one 3-4 times a year. One of my favoutite foods. I pity people eating dried out turkeys, when it really isn't that hard to keep them juicy and delicious.

My wife's turkey is never dry. She claims her secret is just adding a stick of butter

Butter works. Under the skin, and in the cavity. Injection, brine, use a roasting bag, cook breast down, there are many different ways to make sure your turkey is not dry.

Left over turkey is eaten in sandwich form. Use gravy, or Mayo, or dressing, or cranberry sauce. Leftover turkey sandwiches are the best.

I can’t believe y’all gonna have me defending the honor of turkey. A well prepared turkey is never dry. A combination of buying an oversized bird, too little seasoning/marinading, and overcooking lead to a dry bird. I am not a huge turkey fan either. My enjoyment of turkey has greatly increased as I have decreased my consumption of bad turkey from school/work cafeterias, and made by people at the head of organizations who don’t cook any other time of the year.

That is my preferred way, Jon. With a healthy amount of pepper.

This the first Thanksgiving that I can think of in my life without some kind of cranberry sauce. I don't care for it, but it was strange no one brought any

Left home this morning, had a free turkey dinner at the airport in Chicago. Flying to Munich tonight. Family turkey day on Sunday. This is one of my favorite holidays, but I just had 2 weeks off with the wife and don't feel too sorry for myself.

Vegas was great for Thanksgiving because there would actually be restaurants open. Every other place I've lived (including this town), if you don't have food in the house or anywhere to go, you're completely fucked.
I'm getting to the point where I actively hate Thanksgiving. A few more years, I'll probably get to where I start hating every single holiday

We had reservations to go out for dinner at Ruth Chris (well lunch because it was at 1p) but couldn't go because my wife and one of the kids were sick. And it was at 1p because that was the latest time available....3-4 weeks ago. A lot of restaurants are open here. I thought that was the trend now. Maybe with reduced hours, but definitely open Thanksgiving Day. |
