Funeral Song

Saw this on Facebook, thought it would be interesting to post here.

What song would you pick to be played at your funeral.

I have told my wife I wanted this. She hates metal and said, you won't know if I don't LOL.

Seeing as though approximately 2/3s of the songs I listen to are about death, I have many to choose from.

But I'd pick this one.

Ok, funeral song stories.
The saddest funeral song I ever heard live was for a girl who died of cancer at 14. She had been active in raising money for juvenile cancer and worked extensively with Amy Grant and Vince Gill. Both came to the funeral home, and Amy sang the song "Why?" while playing an acoustic guitar at the funeral. Not a dry eye.
The second saddest was for my 22-year-old cousin. His fiance broke up with him a week before their wedding. He got really drunk and drove his truck off a steep hill at a very high rate of speed. We will never know if he did it on purpose or not. As they were carrying the casket out of the service, they blared over the sound system "He Stopped Loving Her Today." They had to carry his ex-fiance out of the chapel.
As for my funeral song, I don't really care. I will be dead.

I expect no one to attend my funeral but if I had to choose, I might as well go a little bit Tolkein

Too many to pick from. I'll have to think harder.

TBH I'd prefer a small and quick funeral. Have asked to get cremated and ashes toss out in the woods/lake somewhere.

(Watched too many zombie movies).

I want my funeral to be a joyous occasion. I'll Fly Away is definitely on the playlist.

Since it was the theme for our bar trivia team for years, through a state championship and another third-place finish, I'd want The Killing Moon (Echo and the Bunnymen).

Our team name was usually "Killing Time", but for a long time we alternated between "Killing Time, Unwillingly Mine" and "Fate, Up Against Your Will."

If you've ever seen Donnie Darko, many people claim the movie was inspired by and written specifically to feature this song.

It doubles as being a key song in my favorite TV show.

My wife has very specific wishes for hers (song, poem, food, etc). For mine I could not care less, since I figure I'm dead. The way I see it the funeral is more for whoever is actually there, so they can make it into whatever they feel best about. My only wish is to be cremated or put in one of those things that makes soil from your body so my bones are not wasting earth space.

Agreed. There is actually a "natural" graveyard close to here. You can bury cremated remains, or you can be fully buried in a shroud or a biodegradable casket as long as there were no embalming chemicals used. It also costs a fraction of a regular funeral/burial. I have a couple of friends buried there.

There's a good beer named after this song: Tout Le Monde | Unibroue | BeerAdvocate

Good strong flavor for a low alcohol beer.

My mom played a bunch of Beatles and Elton John as pre music at my dad's funeral because he loved them both.

Can't listen much to either one now

Thanks mom
