weak-side / strong-side LB's

Can anyone help me out with just what is the difference between the Weak-side and the Strong-side LB's? I appreciate that where they will line up depends on the TE (I assume by their names) but what are the different skills and qualities that people look for in their respective positions. And what happens if the offense lines up without a strength in their formation?

Just out of interest really...

SLBs tend to be better against the run because they need to fight off the blocks of the TE (and the offense will want to run more to its strong side). WLBs tend to be better pass rushers because they are going to be rushing from the side with less blockers and will have less runs directed toward them.

FWIW, FOF removes the WLB on passing downs and replaces him with a defensive back. That seems counter-intuitive to me.

I'll throw in my 2 cents...

I think the strong side guy would line-up over TE and cover him on pass plays. So he would need good cover skills and run stopping skills. Meanwhile...your weak-side guy would be more of a blitzer. I may be way off base here...but that's what I judge them by.
