Agree and disagree. I disagree that parody songs have a low comedic ceiling, and Weird Al proves that. His best work is among the best comedy out there.

Agree that the saturation of parodies can devalue the genre ... but that's true of everything. I think Weird Al has been hurt by a lot of attention seekers who have posted songs on file-sharing sites as Weird Al songs. But if you like Jerry Seinfeld and then go to open mic night at a comedy club, you'll suddenly think standup comedy has a low comedic ceiling.

Sadly, there's no way the No Fun League would ever be cool enough to allow that to happen.

Not sure if I'm suppose to be surprised that Al ended up with such an attractive wife or not. Odd to see him with gray hair, but he's 54.

If you haven't picked it up yet, "Mandatory Fun" is $5.99 this week on the iTunes store.

Didn't check to see if this was posted in this thread or not, but on Facebook this morning I saw a link to Huey Lewis getting "revenge" on Weird Al for making a parody of one of his songs:

American Psycho with Huey Lewis and Weird Al from Huey Lewis, Al Yankovic, PatB, NickCorirossi, Charles Ingram, Jason Carden, Ben Sheehan, and BoTown Sound

And if you prefer to stay away from iTunes it's $5.99 on Amazon as well.

I saw Weird Al in concert in May. He's a very good live performer. I also saw him several years ago, and he was very good then. He's one of my favorite singers.

Anyway, top 5? Coming up:

1. King of Suede
2. It's All About the Pentiums
3. Party in the CIA
4. Mr. Popeil
5. Eat It

I think this also kind of hints at my favorite Weird Al album.

I don't travel that much, but three times this year I was in places right after Weird Al performed there. I just keep seeing him name on marquees.

I did see him at the Hampton Beach Ballroom in New Hampshire about 15 years ago.

There's definitely a lot worse music an 8 year old can become obsessed with. I consider you lucky.
