I missed when this went viral 6 years ago, and now I'm currently watching it at least once very day. Too Many Cooks. Rian Johnson felt it should have been nominated in the Academy Award short category. I agree.

Every time my son shows me one of those video pranks on YouTube, I remind that this is a possibility. The people of the United States should take great pride that stuff like this does not happen every single day. It is just sad. For who, for what?

This was in Australia, so less of a chance of a firearm. But what would you do if someone "pranked" you like this?

Harassing people while shopping is classified as a "prank" from r/trashy

My favorite was how the lawyer was just ready to power through with the hearing. He was ready to go.

And goddamn it, why shouldn't lawyers use filters at zoom hearings.

Bah, naïve me didn't consider that it was prepped but that makes sense. Not as cool if it's not spontaneous.

Yeah, I had the same response, as it seems to suck the sincerity out of it....on the other hand the prepared approach probably costs more time & effort from the band and might involve many more perks for the fan (and they might be able to 'audition' a bunch more fans in each city).

No idea why this popped up on my feeds. I've seen the "professional" storage wars shows but not the "amateur" ones which is more "authentic".

I was voyeuristically fascinated by this but felt awkward about it. Either they forgot to continue paying (okay), or didn't care enough to continue paying (okay), or something unexpected happened to them (bad & sad).

I've been on quite the police bodycam and true crime (mostly interrogations) binge, basically ever since Edward posted that video of the drunk young lady whose dad owned the island (lol). I have watched so much I'm starting to worry I'm going to run out of content. I'm going to start posting links to some of the better ones. I've been subscribed to premium forever so perhaps watching these isn't as desirable to people when they have to deal with advertisements.

I don't spend much time on YT other than to watch music video premieres for new music, but I love Drumeo videos and some music reaction videos (the legit ones, not the "I've never heard Metallica before, here's me listening to Enter Sandman for the first time!" crap).

Still watching them (YT is a fantastic medium, lots of crap but lots of good stuff also). I'm currently on Hulu because of SEC football but was thinking about going YT premium in Feb to cut down on the ads.

Still watching the cop bodycam videos. I don't think we'll ever run out of content. My guilty pleasure is watching the taser and PIT maneuvers.

Some generalizations and with caveat ... I know this is not a scientific sampling but from what I've seen on YT incidents ...
  • I've mentioned before ... I could never be a cop on the beat. I would lose patience and be rougher than I need to be. The vast majority of videos I've seen show cops more patient, caring, and thick-skin than I could muster
  • Vast majority of these YT videos are caused by alcohol. I would vote for a ban on alcohol in public places including airports/planes, bars etc.
  • Other than shoplifting or sovcits, white women are drunk or under influence 90%+ of the times in these videos. Black women aren't drunk but get an "attitude" when confronted by cops (which plays a role in the escalation). This has made me wonder if black women drink or are much better at moderation?
  • Vast majority of times, perps will deny and say "I didn't do nothing" or like multiple times. Most of times, cops will say "stop it" when physically detaining someone
  • Tasers work majority of times but they don't have desired effect in about 20% (?) of the times. Definitely better to use one if the perp is just running away or doesn't have a weapon, and appropriate when cop has backup. But there were times when I'd pull out my handgun just in case
  • There truly are some people who are without a conscience and do really bad things without caring. In these cases, I really believe this is nature, they're born with something off
  • If I was police chief of the US, I'd come up with a better way to get restrained perps into the cop cars. A good 25%+ of the times, there is resistance and there needs to be multiple cops working from both backseat doors to bring someone in and put a seatbelt on. One idea is to somehow allows perps to be driven to police station lying down on the backseat

And I wish there were YT videos that followed up with the perps after the incidents. Especially with the drunk ones at the airport/planes/bars/hotels etc.

Assume you have become aware how notorious the Arkansas State Patrol is when it comes to PITs. They don't fuck around and seem to have the easiest green lights to use them. I just watched one yesterday where they caused a Range Rover to flip twice on what seemed like a pretty busy road in the middle of the day. It's pretty eye opening.

I did see one clip where the cops did a PIT maneuver in the middle of a small town and thought they should not have done that then (e.g. most of the time it's on a highway and it looks pretty clear). But don't remember if it was an AR police vid.

At least she was calm in the backseat. Some people go crazy kicking the partition, doors etc. I saw one episode where the cops pepper sprayed the person in the back seat.

Porch pirates are another group of people that should be tased for 20-30 seconds.

I've been paying more attention on PIT maneuver episodes and do see a lot of AR ones. But then I see a fair number of GA ones also. So not sure if AR is really above average or if YT algorithm skews the episodes we are seeing?

Walmart said it's testing body cameras on some store employees, a move that comes after some of its locations have experienced shootings and other violent incidents.

A Walmart associate checking receipts in a store in Denton, Texas, was spotted wearing a recording device earlier this month, according to CNBC, which cited a photo shared by a shopper. Walmart on Tuesday confirmed with CBS MoneyWatch that it is piloting the use of body cameras.
Can you imagine if these Walmart videos were on YT?

I wonder if Walmart would have to make them publicly available if LEOs were involved? Public record vs privacy concerns etc.

I would not thinking that would be a "have to" situation. They could "choose to" but I can't come up with any grounds to legally compel a private concern (person or company) to share their video willy nilly.

Someone could ask them to but I don't see how they could be made to short of a narrowly focused court order/subpeona. Images merely captured in public fall short of what's required.

I would guess it is 6.5 rotations (i.e., [{360°} x {6.5}]).

We'll be going on our 4th cruise since the last KC/Philly Super Bowl in about 2 weeks, to the ABC islands. Our first cruise left on SB Sunday that year because I forgot about the extended season (although it was a fun embarkation day/night with the usual partying plus the SB). This time, we're leaving the following week.

So, I'm really wanting the SB to be over because that means we're days away from a vacation. Haven't been anywhere except a couple of work trips and visits to see my parents since the end of May. And then, at the end of July into August, we'll be doing a Reykjavik stay and Iceland cruise.

Do you normally get an inner, porthole or balcony room? We're thinking inner for our first cruise because wife gets motion sickness pretty easily.

Any suggestions for reducing motion sickness?

We almost always go for a balcony, at or near aft for the views. We don't drink a lot and aren't all that social, so sitting on our balcony is the preferred way to spend down time.

First cruise, we took some ginger chews with us just in case seasickness hit, but it didn't.

I believe the general advice is low and midship is where you want to be. I've also read that a view of the horizon might help orient you during seasickness (as well as the fresh air), so I'm not sure about an inside cabin (though cost-wise, that's the play if you don't spend any time in there).

Hah.

She's very informative and tells you about the ship, food, amenities, rooms etc. But she speaks a tad too fast (or maybe it's me or her slight accent), I need to have cc on to keep up with her.

I think what works for me is that she does whatever she does but manages to convey it in a relatable way. She's not, like, "everyman" but she knows how to translate stuff so we can all follow it.

When we did our cruise a billion years ago (25 years actually) we did an inner cabin to save money. It was tight and a bit claustrophobic. I really think that might be worse for seasickness than having a balcony.

Well, I ran into the video I was precisely expecting earlier in the thread. Crazy state trooper (from ARK sorry Edward) ends up doing a PIT in the middle of the day in the middle of the interstate and kills the suspect. At 136 mph

- YouTube

He did apply his brakes, but I just don't see how doing a PIT at that speed and setting doesn't put other lives at risk. Or going up to 120-130 earlier in the pursuit on one way highways. Just nuts

Thanks, watched it. Seem like the biggest ding against the trooper was it was attempted at too high of speed.

I thought the perp hit the state trooper but video explained that just as the trooper was doing the PIT, the perp slowed down so the trooper didn't hit quite right.

I dunno. Seems okay to me, interstate, there weren't cars left or right, plenty of space from the truck ahead, concrete median. Had a record, running away etc.

The trooper hit a truck after doing the pit. That says to me is wasn't a safe situation for a pit. If he had hit that truck wrong, it wouldn't have just been the perp that was killed.
