I’d say we have maybe like a 15% success rate with the self checkout kiosks at our Kroger’s because the self bagging anlmost always triggers. There is usually one high school or college kid maintaining 12-16 areas and they never check a thing. Just swipe a card and don’t talk to us.
The Sheetz and Walmart ones seem better. |

Yeah Kroger's scanners that seemingly catch you stealing every third item you scan suck. I openly talk shit to them as I'm bagging. I don't care who hears.

Anyone have any smart ideas on how to stop ships losing power and crashing into bridges? I mean twice in a couple years, with respect to the kids who died it’s probably incredibly lucky it didn’t do catastrophic damage to another absolute critical piece of infrastructure.

I don't really do fast food often but I have noticed the rise of kiosks to order from.
We stopped at a rest area on the PA Turnpike on the way home from a softball tournament yesterday and the BK had kiosks and some old lady was completely lost and a worker had to come help her. |

Shake Shack has those as well. You can either do it yourself or order like normal.

Watching the college softball World Series, Ole Miss-Oregon going late in an elimination game. Some dirt flips up from the Oregon pitcher’s cleats. The same chunk of dirt is then hit by her pitch and splits into multiple pieces of which some ends up going into the catchers eye. Fucking bonkers. Someone with twitter should hunt for the clip

I couldn't stay up past the 7th last night. I was happy to see UF embarrassed and go 2 & Q, though.
Speaking of playing with/against girls on certain teams, bonkers that Canady played for a while with the Louisville Sluggers against whom Mack played some lower level travel ball (and in HS against several of them). There's a Lexington area girl committed to UGA she played against when the girl was in like 8th grade. And our current HS SS, a sophomore, was already a great player in 7th grade Mack's senior year. I have no clue what her travel ball or recruiting situation is, but I'd be shocked if she didn't end up playing D1.

I stopped by waffle house to get eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. That shit is $13 now. I swear it used to be half that. I just left. Who the fuck is paying $13 for breakfast food?

I will continue to blame Panera for the fast food price hikes. Before Panera was a thing, you could easily get combo meals at most fast food places for $6-8, tops. Now a $25 gift card will barely cover lunch for 2.

Where the hell you been? WH has been inching toward $20 per person for quite a while now. Tho it's not really that out of whack. I mean, I'm surrounded by $8-$10 fancy breakfast biscuit places that are the busiest joints in town. (And that's before any side, drink, anything else) THOSE are the real madness.

We ate at the new breakfast place this morning. Wife had a BLT and a specialty coffee, I had an egg platter (2 eggs, potatoes, toast, and a salad), a single side pancake, and a coffee. We got my son a burger to go.

The local McDs is $8-$9 for a breakfast combo. I've learned to make my own egg mcmuffin copy that's just about as good as the original.

Pro-tip: I'd pretty much swear that Great Value sausage (the frozen patties) is the same as McDonald's sausage. You can make a pretty good knockoff of any of their sausage variants with a trip to Walmart

Since it's canonical in the Cars universe that there's a Pope, 9/11 happened, and WW2 happened, does that also mean that there was cars slavery hundreds of years ago?

Sucks. Hopefully they treat you all good. I was apart of a company that sold and they ended up retaining me but they jacked with our benefits so much that it cost me 30 grand to have a child. Cost was 1k for the child prior on the insurance plan if the company that hired me. Company transferred hands start of November. New benefits started Jan 1. Child came Jan 3.

Heard from the owner that us selling. He is saying most likely will be employed, but I'm probably going to need to start looking. Doesn't sound like much help if I don't sign on. This sucks so bad. He was supposed to stay on until I was closer to retirement. Now it is going to be dealing with some equity firm buyout until I can find another job.

GD. Sorry to hear that. I had this same issue a couple of years ago. Owner sold and as soon as I worked with the new IT team to integrate our environment into theirs, I was let go. No severance package at all, after 10 years. Hoping and praying you are treated better. |

Sorry to hear that, GD. Unsolicited advice from having worked with PE firms for years: if you're offered a buyout/early retirement, the first cycle is almost always the most generous, as it's usually the only planned one (even if it happens in phases). Being offered a packaged 1 year in means something isn't working and they're looking to shed costs.

Why am I occasionally linked over to "forumsold?" Anyone else see this? Seeing odd remnants from the OS migration, I guess.

I have so many questions:
Why would a betting site offer bets on a track and field race? Why would someone make a parlay based off an athlete LOSING a race? Why would someone think it's a good plan to heckle someone in an attempt to lose a race and win your parlay.. And finally, why would you give yourself the nickname of "the track and field bully".. and POST a video of you heckling the athlete, and boasting it helped you hit your parlay.. FanDuel bans bettor for heckling Gabby Thomas at track event - ESPN

I'm not a big bettor/gambler but couldn't that simply be the same as "taking the field"? No clue what the line would have been for something like this but if Thomas was a prohibitive favorite then I could see "Field" being an option

Moving this to the random thread, as this is more random than anything political:
Was just reminded of college; there was a girl in our class who was from South Africa (though I don't really recall her having much of an accent). Blonde named Nicola - quite cute. (Can't remember her last name.) Was playing against her in one of our intramural football games*; I received a kick and was mostly in the clear but she had an angle on me. My first inclination was to stiffarm to the chest -- then I realized that, ah, I probably couldn't do that to a cute blonde girl, so I pulled back my arm and she ended up getting my flag. I think she did rip a nail in the process though. (Man, what was her name??) * teams were coed, though not many women participated, was kind of odd that she did

My BIL is South African so I have many women from there in my secondary orbit. From my experiences she would have taken it like a champ and ripped off your arm and your flag.

I never get caught up watching big court cases but this Karen Read trial has been fascinating. It seems strange that Massachusetts brought this case to trial once, let alone this second time after a mistrial. The entire police investigation and expert testing for the state was somewhere between half-assed or outright corrupt.

Are there any Cleveland FOCers here?
My friends and I (out of Toledo) are think of doing a day/weekend trip to your fair city. And places that would be interested in seeing? I was thinking of visiting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but was wondering if there was anything else of interest. Let me know. Thanks.

We have reached peak government efficiency. We were given a time code today that we have to enter as a line on our timecards to track the time spent doing our timecards each pay period.
