Yep. If you're gonna mine Bitcoin, at least do it with 100% renewable energy.

Or 12.5 years.

Quote:
While there is no parole in federal cases, inmates can still shave time off their sentences for good behavior. Bankman-Fried could end up serving “as little as 12.5 years, if he gets all of the jailhouse credit available to him,” Mitchell Epner, a former federal prosecutor, told CNN.

2 years for stealing billions? I'd easily do that time.

Man Sues Town for $647 Million Over Trashed Bitcoin Hard Drive
Quote:
'A man from the UK named James Howells is suing his local council to try to recover a hard drive containing 8,000 BTC, currently valued around $647 million. And that’s precisely how much he’s suing them for—since he’s blaming them for his not having it.

Back in 2013, Howells’ then-partner mistakenly tossed out the hard drive along with a bunch of other garbage. At the time, Bitcoin was already worth a little bit less than £1 million—and the value of those coins has risen quite a bit in the years since.

At some point, we are going to see a 95-year old Indiana Jones combing through landfills in search of missing bitcoin wallets on old hard drives.

No, but I still kick myself that I didn't go into farming with my friend when it first got started. He had the tech savy and I could have at the time gotten what he needed. It would have took very little investment for us to had gotten in early enough that the possibility to make quite a lot of money was there. Of course knowing us, we would have sold what we had gotten way too early and just be looking at what we could have had regardless.

Nice bump. Watching a new video about how MrBeast almost certainly made some insane returns pumping and dumping crypto and NFTs. He doxxed what is believed to be a primary account of his on Twitter several years ago and some blockchain "researchers" have been digging into transactions tied to the wallet.

Never would have thought a good friend of Logan Paul's would go down that route

I know bitcoin has had a great run up to near $100k, but I'm still not brave enough to get into.

My speculative plays are RKLB and LUNR and they've done better than bitcoin YTD. At least with those 2, I can visualize the future. All I can see with bitcoin, are whales (and politicians) manipulating the price and like musical chairs, there'll be people missing a chair when it gets dumped.

Isn't the point of the digital currency to exist outside the system where he would get in trouble?

Assuming that's related to the YT video I started last night. North Korea is apparently behind it. Interesting that the BBC doesn't mention that at all.

I did see a video clip explainer where they did mention North Korea as a suspect but you are right they have not updated the linked article.

If North Korea did do this or even if it was someone else, I wonder how would they go about recovering the stolen currency? Or it is just considered a lost for the company?

Some push back on Trump's strategic reserve plan from crypto bros. Essentially, Bitcoin good, all others not worthy.

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/03/04/pro-...arly-rift.html
Quote:
... over the weekend the president took it a step too far in their view. In a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump announced the creation of a strategic crypto reserve for the U.S. that would include not just bitcoin but several other digital currencies — ether, XRP, Solana’s SOL token and Cardano’s ADA.

For the most part, Trump’s crypto backers all wanted a strategic bitcoin reserve. Such a move would entail using cash to buy bitcoin, which is widely viewed by crypto enthusiasts as a smart way to deploy capital into a decentralized currency that’s an alternative to hard money.
Quote:
By going well beyond bitcoin, the critics say, Trump would be using U.S. taxpayer money to buy much riskier assets that have unproven value and have the potential to bolster the net worth of a select few investors who own the coins.

Oh yeah, NFTs. Whatever happened to them ...

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/art/arti...-fall-of-nfts/
Quote:
“Everyone during this time, everyone I knew, was saying, ‘You gotta make an NFT,’” says the painter Max Denison-Pender, recalling the tulip fever that spread through the art world at the beginning of the 2020s. Its peak was marked by one seismic event. In March 2021, the venerable auction house Christie’s sold its first wholly digital artwork, Everydays: the First 5000 Days, by the artist known as Beeple, for $69.3 million (about £50m) in cryptocurrency, making it one of the most expensive works ever sold by a living artist
Quote:
But that was then, and this is now. In September this year, Christie’s quietly shuttered its specialist digital art division. Sotheby’s hasn’t entirely walked away from crypto art sales, but was left red-faced in 2022, when an NFT seller withdrew all lots as buyers waited with paddles in hand, then posted two hours later that he was “taking punks mainstream by rugging Sotheby’s” – a term for when crypto developers attract investors to a product, then disappear. The NFT boom has long since turned to bust, doing much damage to the reputation of digital art in the process, and one can only look back in amazement and ask, what the hell happened?

Let me tell you "what the hell happened?" It was a dumb idea to begin with that made little sense. It got a lot of "tech bro" and "bit coin bro" money (generally the same thing) because people were afraid to be left out, but the people who actually made money were the creators that made the early NFT's and cashed out, like in any pyramid scheme.
Bit Coin has some kind of basic sense to it, though the vast majority of coins are basically junk pyramid schemes themselves, but the NFT's were a sucker play from the beginning.

Well NFTs did allow a lot of money laundering, so they had a bit of a purpose.

One of his last posts indicated he was hoping to retire in 2025 so maybe he's sipping mai tai's on a beach somewhere?

But it does leave me wondering where we are in 'the cycle' and whether it's time soon for the 'halving' ritual or whatever.

There are a couple companies with big stakes in bitcoin that may be forced to sell soon if the value keeps dropping. If that were to happen I've seen speculation that it would begin bitcoin's death spiral.
