Well my company was importing various parts of a big Collector's Edition that's releasing this year. We were taking a major hit to import this into the USA, so we moved around a lot of the allocation to other countries to reduce the impact. Now we'll just end up making the amount of money that we were originally planning on making. IF they refund the tariffs.

Wife did 27 years in sales for Proctor and Gamble and Berkshire going as high as VP of North America and this was her exact comment when I told her about the ruling.

So apparently Lutnicks company, run by his sons, has been buying up tariff rebates for pennies on the dollar and is going to make a bag load over this ruling. So basically he was betting against his own administrations policy. The corruption never ends.

So does this mean we aren't getting out tariff rebate checks?

GDP way down and inflation up. In a surprise twist, though, he didn't blame Biden. He's blaming the shutdown.

Still insane they found 3 sniveling cocksuckers on SCOTUS to defend it. I have to read the dissent to see the kind of mental gymnastics they use since it's as clear as day in the Constitution.

Same as post covid. Price gouging on food from grocery stores to all of the food/beverage suppliers is a disgrace, and not because of tariffs. The model is a proven winner, just as well implement it post tariffs.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a few cabinet members resign as we get closer to the midterms. Lutnick and Noem are probably the most likely. Hegseth is too stupid to know when to quit.

Lutnick isn't going anywhere. They both need each other.

Noem on the other hand is disposable and probably gets tossed before midterms. She's just an anchor on Trump.

I saw some stories today that Noem was going to leave and run for Senate in South Dakota

We knew Thomas & Alito would support it because to them no GOP President can do any wrong.

And you never know with Kavanaugh, given the drinking.

I wonder if any of those 3 are in the Epstein files.

Thune isn't up for re-election until 2028 and he's majority leader.

Rounds is up for re-election this year. In 2020 he beat his primary opponent 75-25 and his GE opponent 65-35. The primary isn't until June 2, but that seems like some uphill sledding. Rounds has also been endorsed by Trump (as much as that matters).

It is just so funny that Thomas and Alito prided themselves as strict originalists and all the dopey media personalities played along for years.

Reading through the dissent, they don't even argue the constitutionality. They just say "well it would be hard to reverse this so I guess it should be legal". I was wondering how they'd word it because you know they do not want a Dem to have that same power.

Gorsuch does absolutely cook the shit out of Thomas in his concurrence. Points out how insane he is and that he's calling for what is essentially an Enabling Act.

So because his ability to order tariffs was struck down his solution is a new tariff? I mean this gets tossed as soon as it’s in front of a judge, right?

Remember when the tariffs were supposed to be about fentanyl? That seems so long ago. Nothing that comes out of his mouth is ever close to the truth.

I guess the $2,000 tariff cheques aren't coming anytime soon. (they never were)

The global one he can do, but after 150 days, he needs Congress to approve it. I don't think that even this lapdog Congress wants to play with unpopular tariffs in July of an election year.

My concern is Johnson pulling some shenanigans like not holding a vote on them and they just continue. Zero chance that vote passes that close to midterms.

People magazine finds and breaks the claim that Epstein was the wealth manager for Putin.

My guess on what happens is we get lawsuits, they allow the tariffs to stay in place for the 150 days even though this is clearly not the intent of the law, he immediately reapplies them after the 150 day limit, which results in more lawsuits and an injunction this time. Trump files an emergency appeal with SCOTUS who refuses to hear the case and the injunction stands. This runs the clock out until dems at least take over the house.

The GOP would be far better off if Trump just accepted defeat on this. There aren't many things he's underwater on with republicans, but tariffs are probably one. Trump is ensuring they're going to be in the spotlight through the midterms. This is him not liking being told no and not giving a fuck about the party when he has a chance to enrich himself and his friends.

After this tariff ruling I wouldn't be surprised if SCOTUS shies away from ruling on Trump nonsense for awhile. Not being able to get a 9-0 ruling on something blatantly illegal was a bad look for Roberts' court and got Gorsuch to lash out. That's probably why this ruling was delayed a month.

Hard to figure out what's happening with Greenland today. Trump posted that we're sending a hospital ship for Greenland's civilians, but it's being reported that the Danes medi-vacced a US sailor who was ill.

Is Trump lying or is he nuts?

Trump admin saying Iran is within a week of developing a nuclear weapon. You know, the same nuclear program that was "totally obliterated" eight months ago.

They were saying this in the 90s. There's a famous clip of Netanyahu in like 2002 saying Iran was close.

The best thing for the safety of the region would be for Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

Pretty sure it's the "weapons of mass destruction" excuse or the Casus Belli that you'd need to declare a war.

The story is not false. There is a Confidential Human Source (CHS) Reporting Document in the files where a CHS makes that claim. If you type "Epstein's wealth manager" in the search bar of the library, there is a link to the document.

https://www.justice.gov/epstein

Now whether the CHS's claim was investigated and confirmed or not, YMMV.

I'm torn between losing several months' worth of 401K principle/interest versus Trump continuing to shoot himself in the dick to further hamstring GOP chances in November.

Personally since we are are 41/42 and 20 years away from retirement I'm in favor of Trump shooting himself in the foot.

The funny thing is a less stubborn Trump could have had a fairly solid economy right now and much better approval ratings.

It's pretty consistent though. He'd rather double/triple down on what he believes - even when there's hard evidence to prove otherwise - rather than admit he's wrong. Hopefully he'll burn down the GOP while clinging to his "tariffs are free money" BS.

I'm kinda OK with it though because even in my mid-50s, I've got another decade-plus to work. I'll be done with college/housing costs for our second (last) kid by June, first daughter married in November, maybe another wedding in a couple of years... I expect to have more money to sock away in 3-4 years, plus paying off the house. Should be able to more than make up for any short-term downturn now.
