One of my wife's closest childhood friends came to visit yesterday from Germany. Before coming to the States, she went to Scotland on business and decided to buy me six bottles of beer as a gift. I don't know if she did it out of love or if she is trying kill me. Ok, I know she is not trying to kill me but she did do this intentionally.

BrewDog Tactical Nuclear Penguin- 32% Alcohol By Volume (ABV)
BrewDog Sink The Bismarck- 41%
BrewDog End Of History- 55%
Strength in Numbers- 57.8%
Brewmeister Armageddon- 65%
Brewmeister Snake Venom- 67%

The last one has a warning label. It says "This beer is strong. Do not exceed 35ml in one sitting.

I am glad stuff like this was not available when we were proving our manhood by showing how much alcohol we could handle.

It has been great weather for drinking. Today I got some way too strong Margaritas and started arguing with a Catholic Priest about the Zombie Apocalypse.

So, the wife & I are going, in a week from now, to a resort in Mexico to celebrate our 50th birthdays. By ourself, without the kids.

I'm not a huge fan of resort drinks that are over-sugared and under-alcoholed. When we last did this, I did a lot of gin & tonics, which was fun.

So, who has recommendations for "alcohol & mixer"? I'd like to do a different one every day. Like vodka & tonic, gin & tonic, rum & coke, etc....?

Ironically, the only one I'm not a fan of is tequila, but pretty much any other alcohol is open for options. So, would appreciate some ideas. Thanks!

My wife is out of town until Sunday, I'm just about to walk to a local bar and eat fried food and drink copious quantities of beer.

Just forewarning my appearance in this thread later this evening.

Back in the day, I quite liked scotch and dry ginger ale. I haven't had one in years.

Recently I went through a phase of vodka and lemon soda.

I think Australian lemon soda is closer to an American lemonade.

Our lemonade is a clear soda. It definitely doesn't taste lemony.

I've long been a scotch and coke or a vodka and lemon soda guy but I have recently started drinking brandy neat. I usually have red wine during the week and my home brew beer on the weekend but I have started having brandy as my post dinner disgestif.
I think I had my first one one on a recent international flight but I have had a few in the last few weeks and have developed quite a taste for them.

My wife has discovered Sprite, lime rum and grenadine. She can't get enough.

I haven't had a hangover in years. Doesn't matter if I have beer, wine or spirits or how much I drink. I'll often wake up feeling seedy but no headaches to speak of.

Just doing an early check-in. I have a feeling I'll be needing several drinks to get through the evening/night.

I have to work tomorrow. I will have a lack of sleep hangover, and I can't add a "drink all the beer in the world" hangover.

I'm planning on perfecting my hurricane recipe.
2 oz Lemon Juice
2 oz Passion Fruit Syrup
1 oz Black rum
3 oz blended rum

I'll be experimenting on the specific rums and cutting the Passion Fruit Syrup with Grenadine to mellow the tartness and reinforce the "red" color.

Im just now mad at my boss. I asked for tomorrow off over a week ago and he said "I'll get back to you". I asked about it again and he said nothing. If I had drunk courage I would quit tomorrow. I have LeanFire money you know.

So I have cut my drinking by 80%. I used to drink 6 nights a week. My routine was watch a game, show, etc and drink miller lites and play online poker. Wife travels a lot for work so it made it easy. Got tired of waking up feeling like I needed to go right back to bed. Started hitting the gym and eating better. I feel 100% better and have way more energy. That being said going to see my buddies band tonight and it’s gonna be on!

I ordered a mead making kit off Amazon.

Anyone here make their own mead? Any advice for a newbie so I don't brew a jug of sewer water?

We used to make mead, and had some friends who made mead for years and got really good at it.

What I gathered from all that time is that far and away the most important thing is to take your sterilization seriously. If you mess up your best case is that stuff takes like crap and your worst case is severe gastrointestinal issues.

The cleanliness of everything, plus the quality of the ingredients, were the two things that made the most difference between "meh" mead and "OMG" mead.

Oh, and find a good local honey supplier.

Oh, and when you finally open a bottle of mead to drink that you've brewed yourself, do it over a sink, because if you've slightly misjudged things (very easy to do), it might spray out of there like champagne does when you shake it up. We had a blueberry mead that was delicious but every bottle opening was basically a geyser. We had to decant them after opening to let the sediment settle, but once that was done it was really tasty.

Good luck!

I tasted my first attempt last night and I thought it was pretty passable, especially for a first attempt. It didn't kill me. So that's a plus. It was rather smooth and has a decent taste.

I named it "General George Meade"

So I just made my most expensive drunk purchase.

Guess what it was?

Spoiler

Also I would've loved to do more of a slow burn on this but with the forum's reliability at the moment I thought no.
