FOF 10 with Multiplayer only?

Steam Community :: Front Office Football Eight

Look at "Should I buy this game"

Jim states,"Since the multiplayer functionality from earlier versions was not working well, I had other ideas for how multiplayer would be implemented and planned a multiplayer-only FOF10. "

so you're saying there's a chance....

With the competition heating up, if Jim decides to continue, he'll definitely have to make some changes.

I'm not crazy about the idea of a multiplayer only game since I've never played multiplayer, but I'd definitely give it a go if Jim decided to make it.

There's no competition whatsoever, just a bunch of modern and sleek roster-builder games, but yes they have their own modern and casual audience.

I wouldn't buy a singular multiplayer focused game. Is a networked gaming platform all that much worse than FOF 2k something era?

The maker of Football Coach: College Dynasty is making an NFL version.

I don't think it'll have all the depth of FOF, but it may come close. His college game scratches an itch.

The one advantage he has is that he listens to the feedback of his customers.

I watched a walkthrough video of War Room Football’s tutorial and thought that it looked pretty promising…

Part watched play through videos of the season and offseason and lost interest again. It does have some good looking features, but it not a game of any depth just yet (it is in Early Access TBF)

A BIG NO to multiplayer only! While I believe multiplayer should be an option I get most of my enjoyment playing solo.

Agreed, the college game plays well and the devs discussion on discord offer some insight but there is no way it will have the depth provided by the FOF engine. I will admit though that if it comes close to the playability of the college game it may end up being very very entertaining.

As for any FOF 10 discussion, all I can do is hope. I stumbled across the FOF world in 2007 and have been here and in various leagues off and on since. As I approach ancient man status (past old man status) I can only hope but will admit that that hope has faded a lot. One never knows though as the world is full of surprises.

FOF has so much potential, but I don't think there's any way forward because Jim is unwilling to continue alone. While he still hopes for a call from a big studio, I don't think that will happen. That train has already left the station with AI and indie developers filling the niche with War Room Football and Pro Football Coach Dynasty.

These games probably would never have existed in the first place if FOF and Jim had firmly owned the market. The modern audience is drawn to UI aesthetics and recruiting systems, which allow for a simplified engine. FOF is quite the opposite.

I don't think any studio will be interested in competing with those new titles while also not owning the game outright or having to pay Jim for it - it's a big gamble.

UPDATE:

Just to clarify, there's no "real" competition because the new games are very shallow under the hood. They're mostly basic simulations focused on recruiting, but the modern audience seems to enjoy such games, which is a pity.

I agree that the other games don't have as much depth.

I have no idea about the logistics and financial side of games like this, but I hope somehow someone can buy the game from Jim and continue its development. It doesn't sound like Jim has many more versions left in him, and it would be a shame if the game died.

Even if it's not a big company that buys it, is it possible for a single developer to buy it? Like someone as dedicated as the Pro Football Coach developer could really make something from it.
