I have a cheap monitor option for you. Its called a KVM. It lets you use your Keyboard, Video, and Mouse between two or more computers. Here's an example:
http://shop4.outpost.com/product/3666945 They are cheap, you can find ones cheaper than that one above. I use one with my linux machine and old dos machine, and for a time I used it between my dos and windows xp machines. I'd recommend one over another monitor.

OOC: I just found this thread a few days ago and finally got all the way thru it. All I can say is...WOW! You have done a great job, it was a pleasure to follow.
Also, Many congrats on the new arrival GB. IC: To X-Com forces HQ, These aliens must die. The aliens came to our government with proposals of "peace & harmony". Once the accords were written, the aliens rounded up most of the populice and they have not been seen or heard from since. (My parent were (2) of many to be taken). I barely escaped detection myself and have been hiding ever since, 3 months now. I have done my best to "strike" at the alien hordes with "guerilla" attacks. However, I know that whatever damage I do, alone, is nothing more than a "fleabite" to the aliens as a whole. I can only hope this communique reaches you, as I am sending this as my "Volunteer papers" to join the X-com forces. I am handy with a laser and I am ready to give my all to the destruction of these invaders. THESE ALIENS MUST ALL DIE, EARTH WILL PREVAIL!!!!!. JokerAce |

I think both GB and me have the stories saved somewhere... when the old board went down for a couple of days we made backups when we got back on.

Oh I hope seeing this thread at the top of the page means GB's children have grown to self sufficency, so we can get back to purging the alien infestation.

He's still alive? Oh, that's right, I still haven't posted a couple of the "pre-baby" missions that I have finished. Whoops. Said too much. Said too much. Hee hee. _____ I think it's just about time for the final push! I hope to go about a one "full-write-up" mission per week pace until we finish. Life with two little kids is unpredictable, though, so I might miss a week or two. I'll do my best. One of my New Year's Resolutions is to finish this thing, and we better get started. I'll be starting a seperate thread tomorrow (1/15) for a roll call to check to see who's still here, then we'll be off. We'll reshuffle people around to get our active agents in Europe and Asia, then get back into action! Also, welcome to everyone who has asked to sign up! I'll put your names down on the roll call roster in the order you've posted here. Please reconfirm by posting in the roll call thread once it's up. It's going to take a little while to figure out where we were, as there were a lot of agents going in all different directions, and there are a couple of unposted missions from before that I still have to post. I've also got to hook up my old computer and get the saved game transferred to my laptop, where I'll run the game from for the time being. The game seems to fun fine on that computer, so I don't foresee any problems with getting us back in gear. My guess is that our first mission can go up by Monday night, and I'll aim for Sunday nights from there on out. Most of the old links are kaput, but 3ric and I have saved files. This, of course, only helps 3ric and me. Stupid question, but is there an easy way to post the saved threads to a web page? I've got some web space on my cable account, so I could put them up there. We'll also move to a new thread when we start again. Welcome back! Get ready to rumble! Look for the roll call thread tomorrow! |

Roll Call Thread is up and running! Go there and report back for duty!
Lokugh: I got a copy of that game in a trade but haven't played it yet. I've heard good and bad. Interested to see how things work. Joker Ace, The Herd, Hoops Guy, ShaefIllini: Welcome! I hope you enjoy it! Glengoyne: I might be wrong, but I think a couple people have done that. First post, 2,000th post. It's all good, eh? Tasan: Thanks for the idea on the monitor. I think I'm going to play the game on my laptop for the time being. That seems to work fine, and it's free. At some point I'll grab another monitor and let my son use my old computer. |

Well, all I have played is the demo, which means I could not get into any of the strategy portions of the game (research, training and the like). But the combat portion is pretty nice. It is RTS, but works almost turn based, the way it is set up. You issue orders and then turn on the time so your soldiers carry them out. If one of them run out of orders, or something new occurs (one of them gets hit, or they see a new alien or some such) the time stops so you can issue new orders (or you can stop it yourself, if you like and change orders). The alien creatures seem more...alien. Although the alien with the M16 seemed a bit strange (at least it looked like an M16...) David |
