CEO Challenge
One of the challenges of this dynasty will be to keep myself interested since I will not be making a lot of decisions myself. Posting here should help.

HOUSE RULES
1. Scout will manage depth chart prior to each game. Whoever my scout says is best will play. 2. Scout and coach will make minor roster decisions during the year. Yep. I won't be involved in who is active/inactive for a game or what undrafted rookie gets picked up to fill in for that injured guy. Therefore..... 3. The only times I am allowed to pick up free agents are during the 20-Step Process and immediately after the draft/before training camp. Only undrafted rookies can be picked up after the draft though. No veterans outside the 20-Step process. The coach and scout will pick up all others as needed. 4. Undrafted rookies can be signed to a maximum of a 3-year contract. No 7-year minisals here. I like the 3-year deals though. Players won't accept minisal, and sometimes you even have to offer an undrafted guy a bonus to ink him to a 3-year deal. 5. I AM allowed to negotiate with all draftees. As CEO, I will be involved in financial decisions. You can't really do much in FOF2K1 to give you an unfair advantage in this arena anyway. I foresee using this rule mainly to sign 5th-7th round draft picks with good potential ratings to longer contracts than they usually ask for. 6. Renegotiation allowed only in last year of contract EXCEPT in the case of "Classy Veterans," who I can renegotiate with at any time This is a good compromise for renegotiation that I use. A "Classy Veteran" is defined by me as a player who meets ALL of the following criteria: Quote:
7. No player whose Play For Winner Rating is over 75 can be renegotiated with following a season when the team didn't make the playoffs. He can only be re-signed via the 20-Step Process. I think this rule will add realism to renegotiation. 8. Trading is allowed, but under the following 2 restrictions. Quote:
9. GM may be fired for poor performance. 'Nuff said here. 10. No backloading 20-Step FA offers. No more than a 30% increase is allowed from year to year. 11. Franchise tag can only be used on 10/5 players, and only once in their career. That is, guys who are in their 10th year or higher, and have been on my team for 5+ seasons. 12. No ticket prices can be higher than the closest geographical team. 13. I must use the suggested offensive game plan and the scout recommendations for training camp. These are strictly coach/scout decisions and should be left up to them. 14. In the draft, I am only allowed to draft players my scout deems the "best available" player at their position at the time of the pick. In short, I make the decision that I need a LB, and my scout tells me which one to pick. Thanks to QuikSand for this idea. 15. Start with an expansion team. Empty Cupboard rules as much as possible. I will only pick up players who entered the league in the expansion year (2009) or later. Undoubtedly the computer will sign older players. Any players who came into league before 2009 must be released at the end of the season though. [This message has been edited by SkyDog (edited 01-19-2001).]

I am starting in 2009 with the expansion Colorado Springs Aspen Groves. A few details...
HEAD COACH Shane Hoover SCOUT Oscar Riley Hoover and Riley should be good at putting together and developing a solid young nucleus for the Aspen Groves. [This message has been edited by SkyDog (edited 01-19-2001).]

2009 AMATEUR DRAFT
I have the #2 pick in the draft. Here are my picks: 1(2): QB Moe Daniels: Well, if he doesn't bust he could be an All-Time Great. MOST of his potential or current ratings are listed at 100. The only ones that aren't are screen passes (87), medium (92), and carrying (79). I'll post his screen shot after training camp. 2(2): RB Derrick Preston: He is the available RB with the highest future potential, both according to my scout and the combine rating. He has a 98 in breakaway speed and a potential rating of 87 in yards per carry. 3(2): S Howie Jackman: With a scout rated VG in DB's, I go after the best available DB. Jackman is rated 36/86,25/60,26/66,74. Should be a solid starter. 4(2): DT Byron York: Ratings are 20/75, 12/47, 10. Very low endurance, but could be an effective run stopper if his endurance improves. 5(2): C Glenn Banfield: Best available player at any position in current value. Ratings are 32/36, 41, 58. Could be a decent starter. 6(2): WR Russell Kozlowskie: Has pretty solid current/potential ratings across the board. My scout is only F at WR and my coach is poor, but I figure he's worth a #6 pick. 7(2): LB Graham Talley: Has pretty solid potential ratings. I'll see if I can sign him to a 4 or 5 year deal. Well, it looks like I may have lucked into a franchise QB in my first draft! If Moe Daniels can live up to his expectations, this team could rise fairly quickly. RB Derrick Preston could take some of the focus off of Daniels.

I pick up so many of them this year that I won't go into details. If any of them break out after training camp, I'll highlight them then. The "roster filler" types I picked up were signed to 1-year minisal deals. The guys who I think could start this year or next were signed to 3-year deals, mostly with the followign structure: 2009: $500,000 2010: $550,000 2011: $600,000

2009 TRAINING CAMP RESULTS
Scout zeroes out STRONG I, SINGLE BACK and 3-4 DEFENSE. The best news is that QB Moe Daniels kept virtually the same ratings that he had prior to camp. The most significant-looking UDRFA after training camp is FB Julio Logan. He is rated 40/57 by my scout, and he is a guy signed for a 3-year deal.

2009 POST-EXHIBITION REPORT
We went 1-3 in the exhibition season, and QB Moe Daniels looked pretty strong in all four games. None of my draftees were cut by the computer, and actually it didn't pick up any "illegal" non-first-year players either. Here's the roster going into the regular season: From the desk of Oscar Riley of the Colorado Springs Aspen Groves The only noticeable issue is that FA RB Price gets the nod over 2nd-round Preston. The computer's gameplan has Price's playing time set at 2, however, so Preston will get a good chunk of carries as well. The computer is using this gameplan: 1st: 75 72 59 48 2nd: 76 64 47 38 3rd: 69 24 18 19 4th: 74 29 20 30 Go for it on 4th: 48 Run Inside 20: 50 Run Direction: 12, 11, 13, 35, 11, 9, 9 Pass Distance: 14, 54, 20, 7, 5 Looks like we're going to do a LOT of running over 5th-Round Center Glenn Banfield. Looking forward to seeing what Moe Daniels can do. NOTE: I started in 2009 by loading a season saved at the end of 2008. I forgot that I had started that career with auto-signing of draft picks on. I can't reset it and since I just realized it now after several posts, I am going to continue this career with auto-signing on.

2009 REGULAR SEASON RECAP
Well, as expected, we had a rough season. Our record was 2-14 and we got blown out quite a bit. QB Moe Daniels broke his wrist in week 14 and went out for the season. In addition, after the injury all of his potential ratings dropped into the 70's, 80's and 90's. He still looks like he'll be very good, but no longer looks like an all-time-great-to-be. To the numbers.... QB Daniels: 172 for 357 (48.1%), 1935 yds, 9TD's, 15INT's 55.7 Rtg. He was sacked 50 times in his 14 starts. No wonder he got hurt. A very rough year for the rookie. RB Price: 134 attempts, 664 yds, 4.9ypc, 3TD's RB Preston: 118 attempts, 689 yds, 5.8ypc, 5TD's RB Pearson: 30 attempts, 300 yds, 10.0ypc, 2TD's Nice distribution of carries and results! WR Bryan Smith: 57 catches, 700yds, 4TDs WR Kozlowski: 50 catches, 550yds, 0TD's WR Cornell Mitchell: 48 catches, 569 yrds, 3TD's LEADING TACKLER LB Tyrone Townes: 84 tackles, 32 assists, 1.5 sacks SACK LEADER DE Buddy Mahoney: 7.5 sacks, 0 blocks, 2 hurries TOP PDQ DB S Jimmy Logan: 33 catches allowed in 16 starts, 6 passes defensed, 2 int's, 28.3PDQ BEST OPct on OL C Glenn Banfield: 21 KRB in 82 chances, 6 sacks allowed, 24.4 OPct. TEAM STATISTICS Points For: 192 Points Allowed: 463 Offensive Rushing Yards: 1994(5th) Offensive Passing Yards: 2371(34th) Defensive Rushing Yards: 2501(34th) Defensive Passing Yards: 3662(29th) Well, I need to work on my rushing defense and my pass blocking. Pretty good results running the football with multiple backs.

2010 AMATEUR DRAFT
I have the #1 pick in the draft. Here are my picks: 1(1): CB R.J. Tucker, Kentucky: MAN, this guy looks good. Could be the "shut-em-down" cover corner I love to have. Ratings are 56/100,46/86,49/90. 2(1): WR Roy Holliday, Canisius: A very solid-looking WR for Daniels to throw to. 3(1): LB Hugh Nicholas, Auburn: Should help shore up the run defense. 4(1): P Rex Wilkins, NC State: As bad as this team is right now, it will help to have a good punter. 5(1): TE Carl Thornton, Michigan: Could develop into a solid pass-catching tight end. 6(1): DE Terrance Anderson, Cincinnati: Some help on the DL. 7(1): LB Chris Armstrong, Butler: Probably will never be more than a backup. Looks like we got some solid defensive help. We'll see.

2010 REGULAR SEASON RECAP
Some signs of improvement this year. The 4-12 record wasn't too impressive, but QB Moe Daniels began to show some signs of life and the defense showed some definite improvement. To the numbers.... QB Daniels: 229 for 409 (55.9%) 2814 yds, 13TD's, 10INT's, 77.7 Rtg. A pretty decent season for the 2nd-year man. RB Price: 133 attempts, 504 yds, 3.7ypc, 2TD's RB Preston: 122 attempts, 551 yds, 4.5ypc, 3TD's RB Santos: 41 attempts, 210 yds, 5.1ypc, 3TD's Still pretty good success running the football. WR Kozlowski: 52 catches, 716yds, 2TDs WR Holiday: 62 catches, 755yds, 4TD's WR Ricardo Bouchette: 40 catches, 522 yrds, 2TD's LEADING TACKLER S Howie Jackman: 84 tackles, 32 assists, 0.5 sacks SACK LEADER DE Terance Anderson: 9.0 sacks, 2 blocks, 5 hurries TOP PDQ DB S Bob Meadows: 19 catches allowed in 13 starts, 1 passes defensed, 3 int's, 29.9PDQ BEST OPct on OL C Glenn Banfield: 27 KRB in 87 chances, 3 sacks allowed, 23.0 OPct. TEAM STATISTICS Points For: 259 Points Allowed: 374 Offensive Rushing Yards: 1749(13th) Offensive Passing Yards: 3086(27th) Defensive Rushing Yards: 2060(34th) Defensive Passing Yards: 3531(21st) The defense got better, but still has a long way to go. I think the offense will come into its own in the next year or two. EXTENSIONS/RENEGOTIATIONS WR Kozlowski had a 35.0 TPct this year, eighth best in the entire league, and DOWN from 38.6 last year. I'd like to keep him around. I extend his contract for a year. LB Talley also gets extended through next season. [This message has been edited by SkyDog (edited 01-19-2001).]

I'm interested to see how you like this challenge after a few more seasons. I don't get to play as often as I'd like, and something like this could help me speed things up a bit so that it doesn't take me a week (or more) to get through a season.
Good luck! ------------------ The city of Houston was named after Sam, not Dean.

2011 AMATEUR DRAFT
I have the #1 pick in the draft again. This is probably the last year I'll get it. Here are my picks: 1(1): DE Andy Palm, Minnesota: Studly-looking pass-rushing defensive end. Ratings are 36/82,41/91,96. 2(1): G Tommy Money, Newberry: Could be an excellent run-blocking guard. 33/97,14/47,100. 3(1): FB Max O'Bryan, Stanford: Great all-around fullback. Should be able to do it all. 4(1): DT Shaun Stauder, Texas Tech: Could be an effective run stopper. Potential decent starter, even on a good team. 11/44,12/49,62 5(1): T Vincent McCormick, Miss. St.: Could be a viable starter at RT. 11/40,14/50,53. 6(1): QB Ed Zimmerman, Texas: 3rd Down Passing Rating of 91. Some pretty decent potentials. 7(1): S Alex Gordon, UVA: Looks like a decent player, esp. for a 7th rounder. Looks like we improved both the offensive and defensive lines. Gotta love that.

Scout zeroes out WEAK I, SHOTGUN and 3-4 DEFENSE. The best news is that 1(1) pick DE Andy Palm's ratings actually improved a bit. 4th-Round Draft Choice DT Shaun Stauder became the first draftee cut by the computer. He was picked up by Baltimore. He was somewhat of a draft bust, as his ratings dropped from 11/44,12/49,62 to 2/23,4/30,62. Can't fault the AI for dropping him. No breakouts.

We went 3-1 in the preseason. Most exciting is that the defense only allowed 35 total points in the last three games. Here's the roster going into the regular season: From the desk of Floyd Paduano of the Colorado Springs Aspen Groves 8 of the 11 UDRFA's made the team. Wow. Team is beginning to stabilize. 2011 REGULAR SEASON RECAP
More signs of improvement this year, especially defensively. The record was 6-10. To the numbers.... QB Daniels: 207 for 357 (55.9%) 2240 yds, 8TD's, 4INT's, 79.3Rtg. His attempt totals are so low because he kept getting knocked out of games. (He started all 16.) We need better pass blocking. His backup threw 222 passes. RB Price: 132 attempts, 379 yds, 2.8ypc, 1TD RB Preston: 91 attempts, 418 yds, 4.5ypc, 4TD's FB Logan: 64 attempts, 222 yds, 3.4ypc, 1TD Running game starting to dwindle. I'd like a true feature back. WR Kozlowski: 84 catches, 1187yds, 8TDs--earned every penny of his big contract. WR Holiday: 60 catches, 725yds, 3TD's WR Ricardo Bouchette: 60 catches, 608 yds, 3TD's LEADING TACKLER S Howie Jackman: 88 tackles, 30 assists, 1.5 sacks--2nd straight year leading the team SACK LEADER DE Andy Palm: 15.5 sacks, 2 blocks, 3 hurries--very nice rookie season! TOP PDQ DB S Howie Jackman: 28 catches allowed in 16 starts, 7 passes defensed, 6 int's, 43.4PDQ--He's getting it done against the run AND the pass! BEST OPct on OL C Glenn Banfield: 22 KRB in 86 chances, 6 sacks allowed, 24.5 OPct. TEAM STATISTICS Points For: 268 Points Allowed: 297 Offensive Rushing Yards: 1295(29th) Offensive Passing Yards: 3510(14th) Defensive Rushing Yards: 2014(30th) Defensive Passing Yards: 3187(12th) The defense moved to the middle of the pack. Some improvement at LB should push us into the top half of the league. Offensively, I think we need a true LT and a RB to set us up for a playoff run. EXTENSIONS/RENEGOTIATIONS Lots of guys' contracts come up this year. Here are the folks I re-signed: WR Kozlowski. The former 6th-round choice has proven himself to me and is rewarded with an extension through 2013 for premium rates. G Daniel Marshall. Three-year starter was only asking for $1.2M to re-sign through next year. Heck, at that price even if I find a better option he'd be a nice backup. T Caldwell and Arnold. Both were willing to re-sign cheaply for 2 more years. Several starters not renegotiated with. Looking to fill some holes via free agency.
