Actually, I heard they only gave him $50,000 or something like that for the CD. I suspect the big winner in that deal will be the record company... |

Oh 50 grand... that's all. I wish I could get paid money like that for being completely devoid of talent in something.

What I meant was, compared to the millions that CD will probably make, it's certainly not much.

The easiest way for the record company not to make millions is not have any consumer stupid enough to buy it. If such buyers are so gullible, then the record company deserves all it gets. Hung should get next to nothing for his "effort".

Bucc, while I agree that it is stupidity, and that he is an untalented clown making the most of his 15 minutes...why should he get next to nothing for it? It IS his fault that the money is being generated...
It seems to me that you're saying that William Hung shouldn't be paid for taking advantage of the gullibility of the public, but that the record company, who has even less to do with it, should?

Yes, that is what I am saying. Hung can't take advantage of a gullible/stupid public directly (except through TV ratings). We have no say as consumers whom the record companies choose to market, it's their business. However, once the product is out, the power (choice) now belongs to us whether we buy or not.

Sorry, but Buccaneers comments are making me somewhat mad. Why are you labeling whoever buys his CD as "gullible" or "stupid"?
Anyone who buys his CD isn't expecting great singing, so they obviously aren't gullible. The only reason you would buy his CD is as a gag-gift, or maybe because the guy has such obvious joy in his singing even though he is really terrible. So why are people "stupid" if they buy it? Those kind of mean-spirited generalizations annoy me because it sounds like they are rooted in small-minded spitefulness. Give the guy a break, and get off your soapbox about the people who might WANT to buy the item for reasons other than you can think of. |
