Those Wacky Republicans

deep in the heart of Texas.

hxxp://www.salon.com/news/wire/2004/04/06/photos/index.html

This has to hurt worse considering the conservative base. It'll be interesting to see if she, I mean he sorry, can still be elected. It's also interesting to note that there's no democrat plot at work. It's political infighting at it's very best.

A question, would this cause you not to vote for a candidate?

Another question, where's Dennis Rodman when you need him?

Was there a photo?

How can you write or link to that article without a picture?

I am disappointed.

I'd say he's toast.

And he'd probably lose my vote more because of another fact revealed by the incident than for the one making headlines.

"Dozens of photos of Walls were seized by a company that repossessed a worn-out single-wide trailer registered in Walls' name at the Chalet City mobile home park in Crowley, Texas, just across the Johnson County line. Tarrant County Deputy Constable Randall Groombridge oversaw the eviction, prompted by Walls' failure to pay rent, court records show"

Well, we agree there. I'm glad you pointed that out as that's why I'd not vote for him either in this case.

In general though, and in fairness, let me answer my own question.

If both candidates were fairly close in my estimation I'd vote for the other guy. I find crossdressing creepy. I know it's harmless but it's just plain creepy to me. All things being equal, I'd vote for the noncreepy alternative.

If he was by far the better candidate I'd vote for him anyway. Job performance trumps personal creepiness IMHO.

I look at John Kerry and I see a cross between Gomer Pyle and Herman Munster, not John Wayne.

Besides, John Wayne would never wear a daisy on his ski jacket.

See, not all republicans are evil. Libs of all stripes should flock to this candidate. Pictures would have been nice.

[edit] I like how nothing about his positions (no comment) are brought up. Just the fact that he wears dresses. Pictures would have been nice.

[edit2] did i mention that pictures would have been nice? Also, that has got to be the smallest salon article on a negative republican story i've ever seen.

If you are that into pictures of cross dressing 64 year old men just do a google search using the google images feature. You might have to turn off the default google XXX filter and sorry, but there is no guarantee that the cross dressing men will be Republican.

It's not a salon article. Salon runs wire stories on the front page. It's one of the reasons I keep going there as it's very easy to get a quick glimpse of these. This story would run on any webpage that runs wire stories. Do you have any suggestions of another site that has them clearly presented in a convenient place? I'd be sure to visit it.

Oh and great pic.

I can see the resemblance.

dola and quoting myself but if ANYBODY knows of this please let me know. I just saw that apparantly the wire stories are now part of their "premier exclusive content." I know that I could just sign up for a day pass all the time but I read these for the convenience and having to do that defeats the whole purpose.

I don't think you're looking for the "entire" AP Wire, as the sheer volume would bury pretty much anybody. If you could narrow down what you're most interested in (i.e. "News of the Weird", just top stories by category, state-specific stories, etc), I suspect we could probably come up with some advice.

For general all-purpose headline stuff, I just use my start page, which is myway.com. There's some customization available (for example, I get top political wire stories, I don't show the entertainment wire stuff ) & it's a quick & easy way to see the days headlines in about 60 seconds.

Thanks Jon, I'll start there and see. What I guess I liked about the way salon does it is it is mostly headline news stuff with a nice mix of news of the weird and then some that just are interesting. I know I wasn't getting anything overarching but nothing really major seemed to slip by and I did pick up on stuff that surely would have slipped under my radar.

Googlenews is pretty comprehensive but I don't like the layout that much for a quick view and as for state stuff, I already have papers online that do that well for my needs.

I'll give myway.com a look right now, thanks.

That makes sense. I wondered how they could leave it at 2 sentences.

Speaking of Salon, I was watching a history channel show (i believe on the Bible) and one of the "guests" was a woman from Salon.com... damn was she hot.

Now i'm dola'ing myself too. I didn't realise it was a "click here to read more" thing. My bad. I was begining to worry that Salon.com was losing its touch.

I get it.

Yesterday the wire stories weren't under the exclusive content heading so when I posted it, the entire article was there. I was assuming that today you were seeing the entire article but you weren't.

Not to worry, Bonegavel, you won't see me posting any more salon links. This new development pretty much killed any interest I had in going to their site.

new develoment, as in, we won't see the whole story? I think that's what you mean and that is cool.

I appreciate Salon.com for what it is and it helps me understand the opposition a bit better. I'm just glad to see that they understand capatilism (at least from the aspect of generating revenue from the web site ).

Well, I'd agree but basically they are selling adtime more than they are selling memberships. I used to stop by, look at the wire headlines, read the ones I was interested in and glance at their "publication." If I saw something of interest which I often did, I'd view the ad, get my daypass and read the article.

Now, I won't do that as I won't go to the site in the first place. You could say that the wire was their loss leader and they pulled it. Doesn't sound like they have quite the grasp of capitalism that you give them credit for.
