Have you considered that it could be you that sucks ass and McDonald's that is great? Which is why everyone goes. Of course you'll never know for sure that your whole life might have been a lie.

No, I've been to McDonald's and been forced to eat their food. I've also eaten at Burger King and Wendy's and thoroughly enjoyed my visits.

McDonald's food tastes like crap. The only reason they get so many customers is because of marketing...

McDonald's fries are the best fries in the history of fry-making. Of course, they may add chopped up little kids to the grease to make them taste that way, but what I don't know won't hurt me.

Went to the new McD's this morning. It is going to have 24 hour drive-thru service. If you knew what this area was like 23 years ago when my family moved here, you'd know how weird that is.

Back then there was a yellow blinking light and a gas station falling in on itself at that corner and we had to drive 20 miles to buy groceries. Now there is a Publics strip center, two gas stations, a McD's, and according to last weeks paper, a plan to build a Walmart Supercenter there. This is definitely not the "woods" any longer.

IMO, one positive aspect of McDonald's is consistency, once you've found a "good" franchise. Admittedly, the bad ones are wretched, but I know if I go to a good McD's franchise I will get great fries and a burger that tastes the same pretty much every time (unlike Wendy's or BK, for example, where you seemingly roll the damn dice every time). Usually at a good franchise, they are fast - their system is working - where as at other places (and Taco Bell is horrid this way) the wait can be simply brutal.

And according to this week's paper (covnews.com), Home Depot is now looking to build near the proposed WM Supercenter (Corner of 142 & 20
I believe).

Yup. That Supercenter will be built first, with this one being the second in the county. When we moved here, there was just a K-mart, and a really crappy one at that!

Blech, BK fries still suck AFAIC. I can't help but wonder if there might be regional differences in things like fries & such, stuff that different beyond regional menu items (like the frightening aforementioned McLobster)?

I know that Hardee's burgers used to vary from one location to the next, depending upon whether the store was a franchisee or a corporate owned unit. No idea whether anyone else has major differences like that.

Meanwhile, you're definitely correct about Sonic, they flat-out rock. I don't think I've ever gotten around to their hamburgers, I can't get past the country fried steak sandwich and now the breakfast toaster sandwiches. Breakfast ... it's not just for breakfast anymore

Don't knock the McLobster until you try it. I think my personal favorite were Rallys.

McLobster? I've heard of that product before, however it never made it out of the Massachusetts area (thats where it started right?). Was it expensive? And if it wasn't, what kind of crap meat did they use?

That's exactly what I meant. I would not feel comfortable eating cheap lobster meat. I'm the same way with a hotel. I want to find a good price, but too cheap scares me off.

I prefer to rent my motel rooms by the hour.

100% lobster meat. It cost about as much as a lobster sandwich at a clam shack. Lobster really isn't that expensive in New England. It's like buying salmon in Seattle. Which is probably why they only sold it there.

The thing about McDonalds, it consistency. It's consistently exactly the same, no matter where you go. If you are somewhere outside of your normal area, you can go to Mickey Ds and know exactly what you are getting. I never realized this until I stopped by a McDonalds in Italy. The Chicken McNuggets were EXACTLY the same as the ones in the US. Even the BBQ Sauce was the same.

So it's not that people go for the quality, they go because they are know what to expect. Harvey's might be a fine place to eat, Miller Time, but if I've never heard of it, and it's off the beaten path, chances are if I'm passing through the town, I'm doing a quick stop off at the Golden Arches.

When I lived in Hawaii I noticed McD's had a Spam McMuffin. Spam is stunningly popular in Hawaii. Some kind of holdover from WWII I am told. They even put Spam on pizza in Hawaii.

The McDonald's in Germany serve beer. That would be their one redeeming feature...

I was driving through Germany once and we were looking for a place to eat. We were in the countryside on the Autobahn and it was hard to find anything that looked like a restaurant until we saw a McDonald's at an off-ramp. We go in and everyone working there is dressed in quasi-American Western gear. The girls working the registers all have miniature cowboy hats hanging off their back on a string. The special of the month is "Der Western Mac." We get the tray and the sheet on it has an "Oregon Trail" maze game with a brief history of the American migration west, written in German.

I'm sorry, but to argue that burger king has better food than anything beyond the dumpster is going entirely too far. The only two things I will eat from BK is a double whopper with cheese or the bacon double cheeseburger, and even in those cases the burger tastes like cardboard with smoke flavor added.

McDonalds food isn't great, but flavor wise it is 1000% better than BK. I do love arby's curly fries, and I agree with others that any fast food joint even attempting to use lobster should be summarily burned to the ground.

Lay off the crack. BK's burgers are so much better that McDonald's that it's not even funny...

Not according to the Dems and Time (or was it Newsweek) that complains about all of the starving, poor children here in America. Aren't many children in the lower socio-economic classes overweight instead? There are too many undernourished children here (and throughout the world, as there always will be) but instead of complaining about fast food joints out there (that no one forces anyone to go to), shouldn't the emphasis be on the lack of attention and committment from the family and those around them?

As far as McD, I stopped going for a while. If anyone wants to lose weight, lower chloesterol, lower BP, stay away from fast food. If you don't need to, fast food (esp. McD) has always been a viable option.

If I have a choice, fast food is down on the lower rungs of what I want to eat. When it comes right down to it, it's not that great of a deal for my money. As a college student, I have neither in abundance, but I have slightly more time than money so I watch the food ads like a hawk and don't mind cooking for myself. I can spend $5 and get a value meal (minus the drink) or I can wait for a sale and get a 16 oz T-Bone steak and a much larger bag of fries for $2 more. Well, I can dream anyways, but I can get a lesser cut of meat (shoulder steak or something) and the fries and still get back 50c in change.

I remember my first Wendy's double classic when I got back from overseas...

Heaven on Earth...but you get used to the taste quickly and it's just a normal hamburger again after the first 10 or so that you eat.
