New Football Manager magazine available for download
(ripped from sigames.com)
We know that a lot of you out there are waiting for the first issue of the Football Manager magazine, which was due for launch in March. Due to not having enough good stuff to put on the coverdisk, we decided that the first issue of the magazine would not be good enough value for money, so we decided to delay the first issue til the end of May. Full details of issue one of the mag will be announced towards the beginning of May, including details of all articles in the 100 page mag, the covermounts and which shops you will be able to buy the mag from. However, a lot of what was going to be the first issue was already written and, because it's Sunny outside and we're in a good mood, ourselves and the magazines publishers have decided to provide 19 pages of it for free, we hope you like what you see and that it encourages you to purchase the first issue As you probably know, Football Manager and Eastside Hockey Manager are the new games from Sports Interactive, the creators of the Championship Manager series. Football Manager will be utilising the world famous SI database and our now legendary code base. The Football Manager preview article that you can read for free here is the first proper look at the game, to give you an insight into some of the things we are doing differently with our new game compared to the previous games we developed as well as showing 3 new mockup shots for the brand new interface for the game. There is also a full preview of Eastside Hockey Manager, including new screenshots, a couple of football interviews, and an article about the legend that is Ton Ton Zola Moukouko. (end rip) You can find the mag download on the front page of www.sigames.com. Hope this helps, Marc |

Agreed. Must. have. them. now. Class article on Tonton Zola Moukoko too. There was none higher. Put him right behind your forwards in a 4-3-1-2 and it was pure gold. He led all of my teams in the CM3 series to much glory. I don't have a Tonton in CM03/04. The closest thing is Omar Daley, but we're have contract issues at the moment. He refused to sign. So, instead of losing him for nothing, I started shopping him around. He got upset and didn't feel like I supported him enough, even though I have been offering him everything I can possibly offer to get him to stay. It's a not a good situation. The team is struggling, relegation is a very likely scenario... |

For me, Daley turned to crap in the Premeirship. He was too slow, couldn't head his way out of a whorehouse and finished like a 80 year old without viagra.

Moukoko was sheer brilliance- playing in the "hole" behind the strikers, and occasionaly as the a dropped back second striker. Oh man- him and Tommy Smith gave me one hell of a combo... The other guy who was amazing (still is) - Kim Kallstrom. To this day, I expect Man Utd to come in and sweep Rennes away with an offer.. |

Anybody else think the Media Editor could be one of the best additions to FM? There will no doubt be some creative geniuses out there who will come up with some brilliant press comments.
Looks like I may have to think about finally upgrading the computer just to play FM. |

what are the MINIMUM requirements? I was going to purchase 03/04 when I saw that the minimum were above my 800 MHz...I have 512 RAM, but I know the game had some major speed issues with lower-end machines...
Sad to think that text-based games are getting to a point where you need a "decent" computer to run them...I don't need up-to-date scrolling text...just give me what CM has always been...why are these bells and whistles eating up so much in terms of resources??? Just me, a HUGE 01/02 fan whose career ended in 2012 and I can't send the file to Marc because the file is too big, even zipped... Kevin |

The media editor and new interactions with players and other managers sounds great. I think there is some real potential with the ability to create rivalries with other managers. Can't wait.

My thoughts exactly. The media editor is a brilliant addition. The immersion of FM will be unsurpassed. And I really like the interface, from what I've seen of it.
EHM:FE will be good too, no doubt but FM will be the gold standard. Does anyone know if EHM:FE will be skinnable? I'd like to get a sleek silverish skin for it also; that dark blue just doesn't look all that appealing to me. |

Scrolling text and the match engine aren't what makes it slow, it's the database size. This is an issue with any application, game or business. Show me a similar text game with the breadth that CM has. If you have a slow computer, CM 03/04 runs just fine with small database selected. Optimization is certainly possible, but don't expect miracles. Last edited by Desnudo : 04-27-2004 at 01:04 AM. |

The new features for FM are truly amazing. I can't compare what SI does to anything else in the "text sim" genre, and I'm not even a fanboy. There are flaws and bugs with their games, that they iron out of course, but they are really their own standard when it comes down to it.
kserra, go ahead and get 03/04, I have a 900mhz laptop with 256ram and it runs great on medium database. It's only on large database that you really have issues, and frankly the difference is negligible for me between the two db sizes. It's a great game, and you'll more than get your money's worth in the months (but not too many right?) between now and an FM release. |

From what I know the actual skin system is gone with eidos (maybe marc can tell us more about it since I'm not really sure) so they might go with another skin system. |

Indeed it was. That was what first brought him to my attention. If you have Tonton, zola, and moukoko all as part of your name, you've gotta be cool. Since then I've been looking for a guy named Wampa. |

I just got promoted to the Premiership this year. Daley still has been my best player, which is probably why my team is struggling so and on the cusp of relegation. Maybe I will just go ahead and sell the lad... |

Geez, I like what I see! However, that part about now having the Chairmen and Board get involved in player transfers is going to make it really hard for me to keep coaching Inter Milan in the next version...

The game will be customisable graphics wise (ie. you can change its look and feel, ie. new graphics for buttons etc.) - BUT you can't move the buttons around (ie. it isn't xml driven like CM4). |

We own the code to all our previous games so the skinning system in our football games will remain very similar to that used in previous titles (however obviously the look of the game itself will alter somewhat). EHM:FE is based on the CM3 engine which is why it doesn't use this system, it does however also mean that its required system spec is somewhat less than for FM. |

Marc, I heart you and the other fellas at SI.
As an aside, however . . . while the new look on the website is good (and a HUGE improvement over the old one), perhaps you could speak to whoever does your web page and let them know that it may not be quite necessary to set a cookie every 30 seconds or so on the download page. |

Love all the new features in FM. CM 03/04 is a very, very good game but FM will be fantastic!
But... what I really would like to change is the player ratings. 1) In both OOTP and FBCB you are able to change the settings for ratings, 1-5, 1-100 or even A-F. I don't like the 1-20 scale in CM, it's to precise for my taste. To know that some player is "13" and another "16" in Penalties is not realistic. I would prefer a 1-5 scale, but others would like 1-100. Why don't go the OOTP/FBCB-way and let us choose? 2) I don't understand the logic which ratings is shown and which is hidden. You know that a goalkeepers Eccentricity is "8" but you don't know a players rating to take a Corner Kick. I would like more ratings to be hidden and only the obvious to be shown. Eccentricity should be a hidden rating for sure. Let us discover that the hard way, when our keeper starts dribbling midfield... |

The 1-20 is simply historic, most of the people playing the game are used to it and so we've stuck with it. Allowing remapping it to other ranges has been considered, but isn't to be honest isn't a high priority compared to improving the gameplay. Quote:
We've generally tried to make stats which we feel a manager would know visible and hide personality characteristics. I agree that Corner Kicks should be present though (will try and squeeze it into FM somewhere). |

Amazing...in my CM03/04 game, I have been trying to get a hold of Daley for play on my D3 squad (Tamworth promoted from Conference). The bastard (whom I have never heard of before) says our resources are too small to sign him. Probably true, but that still sucks. He's with Blackpool in D2 now.
I'm not surprised he does well int he game, especially the lower divisions. I was turned off by his athleticism (or lack thereof), too, but it's hard to ignore a lower level guy with those kinds of technical skills. CR

I've been playing as Tamworth as well. Just about to start season 7, the first with tamworth in the Premiership. Now boasting an impressive 5800 capacity ground but with an average home crowd of 7800 (a slight bug there, it seemed to count the 80k who turned up for the playoff final as my home crowd thereby messing up the average). A good challenge to play. Armand One still scoring regularly, other than him it's all new players. Last edited by Critch : 04-28-2004 at 12:52 PM. |
