Training Results

I'm not expecting any pops for another 2-3 weeks . . . and that's how things worked out.

Form Changes

5 players improved in form this week. (starting winger Jonathan Iglesias (solid), starting middies Peter Håkansson & René-Michel Letourneau (solid), (injured) forward Cezar Lupescu (excellent), and trainee Eduard Radu (excellent)

7 players saw their form remain the same.

7 players decreased in form this week. (starting defender Ubaldo Matildo Collado (passable), starting winger Jamey Judd (passable), trainee Bob Smith (weak), back up goalie Kelly Ivey (poor) & 3 other back ups)

My 'B' team is in horrid form despite me playing them all the last two weeks. I don't get it. Perhaps I'll have to try and flip things by training stamina (which I was planning to do soon anyway). Fortunately I'm playing the worst team in my series the next two weeks, so this doesn't really matter too much.

Value

Average Player Value: $352,474 (+11,369)
Total Player Value (19 players): $6,697,000 (+216,000)

Both of these numbers are team records. If Borgbrant ever jumps up in form again, I might see another 100-200K in value just from him.

Assessed Value Milestones

Team Record: Ulf Borgbrant's value rose (from $1,174,000) to $1,233,000.

$500,000+: René-Michel Letourneau up from 460K

Up Next: This week's youth squad cut and the weekly financial update.

Stijn Jeanblanc (7482758)
23 years, inadequate form, healthy
A sympathetic guy who is fiery and infamous.
Has disastrous experience and weak leadership abilities.

Speciality: Powerful

Nationality: België
Assessed value: 473 000 US$
Wage: 3 432 US$/week including 20% Bonus

Stamina: solid Goaltending: disastrous
Playmaking: poor Passing: poor
Winger: weak Defending: weak
Scoring: outstanding Set Pieces: wretched

After a month and a half of shopping I think I picked up something of a bargain here as I got Jeanblanc for $1,734,000. EVERY other player I've tried to get in the last 6 weeks went for at least $2.1 million, with some coming quite close to $3 million. His powerful special will probably hurt as frequently as it benefits me, so that's a wash and he might be a low outstanding, but that'll be balanced out by his relatively lower wage for someone of this skill level. I'm hoping his form will eventually increase, but I think I'll be fine in the long run since I can expect to pencil him into the starting lineup for at least the next 3+ seasons. His experience should go up pretty soon since he logged 47 games with his old time without any boost yet.

My next big purchase will likely be another forward of equal or greater skill level to replace my future coach. I've already got ~400K saved up and plan to sell off a magnificent middie with decent secondaries in the offseason so all of this should happen in the next couple of months. I figure tthat I should have at least $ 3 million after that sale and I can pick up another scorer for 2, and a really solid trainee for 1. I'm optimistic about my team next season for once.

If only he'd had one primary skill and no secondaries instead of just a bunch of decent secondaries. Fired.

After picking up Jeanblanc, I'm back to scrimping and saving for the next couple of months. Hopefully he'll begin to start paying dividends as soon as tomorrow.

Next: An away game against an awful bot. These next two games should be VERY easy.

Everyone's ratings here use their best ratings from the two games played last week, although some midfields may be predicted to be a step higher or lower based on what I think they might do in regards to PICing or MOTSing.

# 7 Slingtown Slam Pigs (0-26 GD, 1 pt) vs # 2 Manhattan Marauders (22-6 GD, 12 pts)

Code:
Midfield: wretched (2) excellent (8) Right Defence: passable (6) outstanding (10) Central Defence: passable (6) formidable (9) Left Defence: inadequate (5) formidable (9) Right Attack: poor (3) formidable (9) Central Attack: poor (3) formidable (9) Left Attack: wretched (2) formidable (9)

I don't expect this one to be close at all since I'll be playing normal, because any benefits of a PIC would be lost by next Sunday anyway when I play them again. If I don't win this one by at least 5, I'll be pretty upset. It's fairly possible that the Pigs will be entering week 9 of league play without a goal scored on the season.

Expected score Manhattan 6, SSP 0

# 6 Hawaii SunRays (20-16 GD, 6 pts) vs # 1 Snuzers (25-0 GD, 16 pts)

Code:
Midfield: inadequate (5) outstanding (10) Right Defence: excellent (8) formidable (9) Central Defence: formidable (9) excellent (8) Left Defence: formidable (9) excellent (8) Right Attack: brilliant (11) excellent (8) Central Attack: outstanding (10) solid (7) Left Attack: excellent (8) solid (7)

This will be one of the two interesting home and homes over the next two weeks, but I expect Snuzers will win both games solely based on their midfield play as Hawaii has a much more well rounded team, but we all know that doesn't matter in HT. I'm hoping the SunRays can keep it relatively close the next two weeks as I should be able to make up some ground in the GD department with back to backs against the lowly Pigs.

Expected score Snuzers 3, Hawaii 1

# 5 JuventusNY (22-13 GD, 9 pts) vs # 3 Heavenly Angel (10-5 GD, 11 pts)

Code:
Midfield: inadequate (5) weak (4) Right Defence: outstanding (10) brilliant (11) Central Defence: outstanding (10) outstanding (10) Left Defence: formidable (9) magnificent (12) Right Attack: passable (6) excellent (8) Central Attack: solid (7) solid (7) Left Attack: excellent (8) poor (3)

This is the other interesting pair of games. If Angel can pick up 4 or 6 points here they will pretty much lock down 3rd place on the season. However, if they split or Juventus takes the majority of the points there will be an immense scramble to the finish for these two squads as well as the Roughriders. I think Angel's defense will force a draw here if he plays a 5-3-2. If he's smart and plays a 3-5-2 he should win by a goal. We'll have to see which formation he uses, but my money is on a low scoring tie.

Expected score Juventus 1, Angel 1

# 4 Ross' Roughriders (16-14 GD, 10 pts) vs # 8 Don't Hate Me (0-35 GD, 1 pt)

Code:
Midfield: inadequate (5) wretched (2) Right Defence: solid (7) poor (3) Central Defence: excellent (8) inadequate (5) Left Defence: solid (7) passable (6) Right Attack: formidable (9) poor (3) Central Attack: outstanding (10) weak (4) Left Attack: solid (7) weak (4)

This too should be a blowout, and I also expect that DHM will remain scoreless on the season until week 9 at the very least. Thankfully the middle two sets of games should provide some excitement since Ross and I should have 6 more pts each and a +10 or so in GD two weeks from now.

Expected score Ross 5, DHM 0

Even though today is the midpoint of the season, I think a lot of positions will be determined by the next two weeks of play. As I said earlier if Angel or Juventus manages to get a win and a tie or 2 wins they will bury their opponent since these are winnable games for them. If Hawaii loses both games as I expect then Snuzers will finish no worse than 2nd, which basically means the only truly meaningful game left on the schedule is when I play the league leaders at home in week 12. It just seems that this season is a lot like baseball. The two powerhouses aren't really threatened by anyone but each other, and the 4 middle teams are scrambling like crazy to steal points from each other. All in all, it's rather boring, unlike the last few seasons when 3 teams excelled.

PREGAME

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Slingtown Slam Pigs Arena saw a crowd turnout of 3,283.

Slingtown started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Stevens - Churchill, Lovell, Holley, Vidal - Hooks, Hopson, May, Martin - Castro, Acker.

Manhattan started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Hasan - Long, Eddy, Collado - Judd, Håkansson, Borgbrant, Letourneau, Wahl - Jeanblanc, Lentz.

1ST HALF

After 4 minutes Manhattan put themselves up by 0 - 1 as Peter Håkansson finished off a strike from the left with a real cannon placed at the far post.

The referee showed Slingtown's Laverne Martin the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.

A lovely rush by Manhattan's Jamey Judd past Fred Vidal could have resulted in a goal, but the finish was just outside.

After the ball got lifted in from the left Cristof Lentz was on his own in the home side´s penalty area 28 minutes into the game, and should have scored, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration.

Manhattan´s Cristof Lentz received a play slashing through the home side´s defense in the 38:th minute, chipping it past the keeper scoring 0 - 2. The home crowd was not pleased with that one.

Manhattan's Peter Håkansson got himself booked after a foul.

Halftime score was 0 - 2. Manhattan, bringing the final ball possession rate to 88 percent, dominated the battle.

2ND HALF

In the 53rd minute Manhattan put themselves up 0 - 3 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. Scorer was René-Michel Letourneau.

The structure of the game started to change as Manhattan decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone.

Manhattan´s Ubaldo Matildo Collado received a play slashing through the home side´s defense in the 53rd minute, chipping it past the keeper scoring 0 - 4. The home crowd was not pleased with that one.

The referee showed Manhattan's Stijn Jeanblanc the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.

The Slingtown player was Dave Stevens who had to be helped off the pitch, unable to finish the game, but Chip Shelley came in to finish the match.

Cristof Lentz increased Manhattan´s lead to 0 - 5 by a superb free kick strike, flying in just under the far top corner.

76 minutes into the game Manhattan were awarded a penalty and Cristof Lentz was able to increase the visitors lead to 0 - 6 rolling the ball in by the right post. This third goal made a hat trick for Cristof Lentz.

Some fine manouvering on the left led to a 79:th minute Manhattan goal, making it 0 - 7. Stijn Jeanblanc was noted as the scorer.

Ulf Borgbrant of Manhattan received a yellow card in the 80:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

The 45 minutes were dominated by Manhattan, with an impressive 93 percent possession of the ball. The match ends 0 - 7.

Notes

I tied my personal record for NSI without my # 2 forward, and fairly poor form on defense and from one of my better middies. I hope to see how much better my offense can be with Jeanblanc, Lupescu & Letourneau all playing this coming Sunday. I didn't have any injuries, although the card situation could be a little bit better. Hopefully if Borgbrant or Hakansson get carded again they do it in different weeks so I'm not forced to play my # 4 & 5 middies in an important game.

However, the best news of the day is listed below. Heavenly Angel AND Snuzers both lost for stupid reasons. Angel didn't set a valid line-up, and Snuzers PICed a road game against a dangerous offensive team, and finally paid for it. With that unforeseen turn of events, I'm now in 1st place with a 2 point lead over 2nd and 5 points up on 3rd.

RESULTS

Juventus NY 5-0 Heavenly Angel : WALKOVER - Angel being a dumbass didn't set his lineup after engaging in heavy daytrading. This loss will KILL him since he doesn't score any goals, and will probably not get back to where he was in GD for at least another 3 weeks. Wow.

Hawaii SunRays 4-2 Snuzers - Snuzers will win by a couple just because their midfield is 4-5 levels better than Hawaii's, and they win EVERY game with these circumstances. NSI = Hawaii (66), Snuzers (71).

Ross' Roughriders 6-0 Don't Hate Me - The Roughriders should roll rather easily for the next 2 weeks. NSI = Roughriders (71), DHM (29).

I might get Gregorio Gamarra to bump a week early, but my next one is looking like it's 3-4 weeks away . . .

# 17 - Gregorio Gamarra
18 years, solid form, healthy
Has disastrous experience and poor leadership abilities.

Nationality: Argentina
Assessed value: 438 000 US$
Wage: 1 728 US$/week including 20% Bonus

Stamina: passable (6)
Goaltending: disastrous (1)
Playmaking: outstanding (10)
Passing: wretched (2)
Winger: poor (3)
Defending: poor (3)
Scoring: weak (4)
Set Pieces: poor (3)

I spent $1.5 M on him, which might have been overpaying, but I think I'll be able to recoup it all and then some, when I sell him in 3 years. He needs some stamina training, but that'll come in the offseason.

# 4 - Salvador Wahl
20 years, solid form, healthy
Has wretched experience and poor leadership abilities.

Speciality: Powerful

Nationality: België
Assessed value: 159 000 US$
Wage: 1 188 US$/week including 20% Bonus

Stamina: solid (7)
Goaltending: disastrous (1)
Playmaking: solid (7)
Passing: weak (4)
Winger: passable (6)
Defending: inadequate (5)
Scoring: wretched (2)
Set Pieces: wretched (2)

I spent 51 K on him quite a while ago, and he's paying dividends especially since Judd was hurt for the last few weeks. Since I'm looking to get another big time striker first he's going to stick around for awhile. If I ever need to use a TM winger consistently, he'll fill the spot.

Form Changes

5 players improved in form this week. (starting defender Ubaldo Matildo Collado (solid), starting middies Ulf Borgbrant (passable) & Gregorio Gamarra (solid), and 2 back ups (both +2)

11 players saw their form remain the same.

4 players decreased in form this week. (starting goalie Aimo Hasan (passable), trainees Eduard Radu (solid) & Bob Smith (poor), back up goalie Kelly Ivey (wretched)

My 'B' team rebounded a bit. I would love for Hasan & Wiling to improve though so I have more flexibility with my starting lineup.

Value

Average Player Value: $377,450 (+24,976)
Total Player Value (20 players): $7,549,000 (+852,000)

Borgbrant picked up 179K, and Hakansson jumped 83K, the rest was the 450+K value from Jeanblanc. Both of these are team records.

Assessed Value Milestones

Team Record: Ulf Borgbrant's value rose (from $1,233,000) to $1,412,000.

$400,000+: Gregorio Gamarra up from 377K

Up Next: This week's youth squad cut and the weekly financial update.

Ken Mccloud (30186301)

Another 17 yo passable defender! This guy doesn't have the passable passing that his predecessor did, but should still net 25-50K.

I've got a home game tomorrow, BUT it might rain. If it doesn't I can expect to double my cash easily as anywhere from 250 to the full 315K is possible with a sell out. If it does rain, that'll be consecutive home wash outs, so hopefully that will be out of my system as I've got 3 more home games against better teams to worry about.

Next: A home game against an awful bot I beat 7-0 last week.

Everyone's ratings here use their league efforts, although some midfields may be predicted to be a step higher or lower based on what I think they might do in regards to PICing or MOTSing.

# 1 Manhattan Marauders (29-6 GD, 18 pts) vs # 7 Slingtown Slam Pigs (0-33 GD, 1 pt)

Code:
Midfield: solid (7) disastrous (1) Right Defence: outstanding (10) passable (6) Central Defence: outstanding (10) passable (6) Left Defence: formidable (9) inadequate (5) Right Attack: outstanding (10) poor (3) Central Attack: formidable (9) poor (3) Left Attack: formidable (9) wretched (2)

I won 7-0 last week, and I don't expect this one to be close at all even though I'll be PICing. I'm hoping for a 4-5 goal margin. I still don't think SSP will put their first one home this season. Their best bet is in week 14 against the other hapless squad, DHM.

Expected score Manhattan 5, SSP 0

# 2 Snuzers (27-4 GD, 16 pts) vs # 6 Hawaii SunRays (24-18 GD, 9 pts)

Code:
Midfield: outstanding (10) weak (4) Right Defence: outstanding (10) solid (7) Central Defence: formidable (9) formidable (9) Left Defence: excellent (8) excellent (8) Right Attack: excellent (8) brilliant (11) Central Attack: solid (7) brilliant (11) Left Attack: excellent (8) excellent (8)

Hawaii pulled off the biggest upset of the year with a stunning 4-2 victory last week at home. Snuzers PICed that one, and isn't likely to make that same mistake this time around. With the homefield advantage and a normal, they should cruise to a win here, and get back on track.

Expected score Snuzers 5, Hawaii 1

# 5 Heavenly Angel (10-10 GD, 11 pts) vs # 4 JuventusNY (27-13 GD, 12 pts)

Code:
Midfield: weak (4) inadequate (5) Right Defence: brilliant (11) outstanding (10) Central Defence: outstanding (10) outstanding (10) Left Defence: magnificent (12) formidable (9) Right Attack: excellent (8) passable (6) Central Attack: solid (7) solid (7) Left Attack: poor (3) excellent (8)

Inexplicably, Angel didn't set his lineup, and vanished about 8 days ago. Therefore, he lost a walkover. He hasn't logged back in, so I'm going to predict another walkover, which is bullshit considering Juventus scored 6 free points and a +10 for absolutely NO work.

Expected score Juventus wins walkover 5-0, or Angel 2, Juventus 1 if he sets his team

# 8 Don't Hate Me (0-41 GD, 1 pt) vs # 3 Ross' Roughriders (22-14 GD, 13 pts)

Code:
Midfield: wretched (2) inadequate (5) Right Defence: weak (4) formidable (9) Central Defence: inadequate (5) outstanding (10) Left Defence: passable (6) solid (7) Right Attack: poor (3) formidable (9) Central Attack: weak (4) brilliant (11) Left Attack: weak (4) solid (7)

Ross spanked DHM 6-0 last week, and should see a similar result here. I don't think he PICed last week since he put up a passable midfield at home. In any case, if Angel forfeits again, he's looking pretty good in terms of finishing 3rd as opposed to possibly 5th.

Expected score Ross 5, DHM 0

Last week's crazy results flipped the whole top 5 around, and may have signalled doom for Angel. If he loses this week by walkover he's screwed since his offense is not good enough to make up the 10 goals he lost, as well as the 6 points he gave away to a key competitor. Snuzers now trails me by 2, but I think they still have the edge since he always gets the best of me head to head even when I outcoach/outplay him. I'm fairly certain that I'll win at least 5 of the final 7, so I've got another top 2 finish. I may make a late run when one of my middies hits magnificent. If not, I'll gear up for next season as my "promotion" chase.

League - Week 8

Opponent's last game - Slingtown Slam Pigs - home league loss to me

Midfield: wretched
Right Side Defence: passable
Central Defence: passable
Left Side Defence: inadequate
Right Side Attack: poor
Central Attack: wretched
Left Side Attack: wretched
NSI: 30

FORMATION: standard 3-5-2 at excellent experience, calm (6) TS, PIC

Everyone is finally healthy, but I'm PICing this one to try and boost my TS for the Roughriders game next week. I'm also playing a forward offensively to try and boost the midfield. I just want to see how this lineup will work in case I choose to use it against the Snuzers/Roughriders later in the season.

PREDICTION: 5-0 win (Jeanblanc 2, Lentz 2, Judd)

Manhattan had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: Hasan - Collado, Lupescu, Eddy - Judd, Håkansson, Borgbrant, Gamarra, Wahl - Jeanblanc, Lentz.

1ST HALF

Cory Eddy gave his Manhattan the lead with 1 - 0, as he successfully challenged both the guests central defenders, then placed the ball unreachably at the goaltenders right post.

Things were going to get worse for the visitors. Ulf Borgbrant squirmed himself through the central defense line in the 19:th minute, asserting the lead to 3 - 0.

The structure of the game started to change as Manhattan decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone.

A header from Cezar Lupescu connected with a corner kick after 23 minutes, and the ball ended up with Cristof Lentz of Manhattan who shot the 4-0 goal.

A speedy charge from the left side of the field put Manhattan lead up with 5 - 0. Salvador Wahl finished that one off competently, firing from an acute angle.

The teams went for a half-time break at 5 - 0. Manhattan, bringing the final ball possession rate to 90 percent, dominated the battle.

Notes

The attendance was flat out atrocious. I don't understand how less than half the stadium was full here. ARGH!

The 81 rating while PICing is nice, as is the fact I got a formidable at home while PICing. If form picks up a bit, I could come close to, or even surpass a 90 when I MOTS Snuzers in week 12. This is the first time I've ever scored 9 goals in a game though, so that was pretty nice. Heavenly Angel took another walkover loss, which kills their chances at finishing 3rd. Other than that, everything was boring since Snuzers & Roughriders also stomped their competition.

RESULTS

Heavenly Angel 0-5 Juventus NY: Walkover # 2 for Juventus, how lucky.

Snuzers 5-0 Hawaii SunRays - Snuzers will not lose this time since he'll probably play normal. It's nice that his strategy of PICing all 12 league games not against me this year finally bit him in the ass. NSI = Snuzers (82), Hawaii (67).

Don't Hate Me 0-9 Ross' Roughriders - The Roughriders should have another easy one. NSI = DHM (32), Roughriders (69).

You are facing a new team with a very small fanclub, the attendance is not surprising.

But I was the home team with nearly 1600 high on life supporters and 3 straight wins. I drew more than 25,000 LAST season playing the 7th and 8th place bots at home with about 400 less supporters. It doesn't make sense since it didn't rain.

I couldn't get another friendly in Germany, so this week we're in Sweden.

PREGAME

Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 2,362 at Freddiepark today.

Freddieboys started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Ganger - Hjertquist, Falkbrant, Khomane - Andersson, Sunesson, Spörl, Møller Hansen, Bednár - Eneflod, Roozenburg de Br.

Manhattan tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Ivey - Wiling, Long, Eddy - Iglesias, Letourneau, Smith, Radu, Kilpatrick - Lupescu, Harden.

1ST HALF

Freddieboys seemed to prefer attacking in the middle.

Eduard Radu surprised the home team with a free kick aimed at the wrong post in the 31st minute. 0 - 1 for Manhattan.

The teams went for a half-time break at 0 - 1. The 45 minutes were dominated by Freddieboys, with an impressive 52 percent possession of the ball.

2ND HALF

Robbert Roozenburg de Bree was just a finger´s breadth away from an equaliser for Freddieboys, but Kelly Ivey managed to ward the closing shot off for a corner.

Some fine manouvering on the left lead to an 66:th minute Manhattan goal, making it 0 - 2. Jerome Harden was noted down as the scorer.

Manhattan held the ball, with a clear 51 percent possession rate. The match ends 0 - 2.

Notes

My ratings were terrible since most of my 'B' team is in horrid form, but it's nice to know that it can't get much worse. I only made about $1,750 on the trip, so I'm kind of upset about that. I figured to turn a profit of close to 200K this week, and ended up with just over 80 thanks to poor attendance.
