System Shock 2 at theunderdogs?
Ok
I decided to try System Shock 2. I know I'm a few years late, but somehow this game got by me when it came out and I never tried it. I found the demo easily and played through it and really enjoyed myself. I started looking for a place to buy it (new, I hate ebay) and every link I went to was either dead or sold out. I thought I would go to the underdogs.com and see if they had a link to a place where I could buy it (I know they sometimes link to chips and bits or the developers website for purchases). Lo and behold, they have it for download. Is this game abandonware now? Generally, the underdogs site is pretty reliable on only offering abandonware or freeware for download, but it sort of surprised me about this game. |

I'd grab it quick, as it most likely won't be there for long.
This is not a knock against anyone, as I am a frequent visitor of underdogs.com and many other abandonware sites, but you have to remember abandonware is still piracy. The thing with copyright law is it really has no meaning until the holder of the copyright takes action. "Abandonware" goes around this mainly by distibuting titles that the developers/publishers are either out of business or no longer care about the title, but it still is piracy. Its the rare case (but does happen) that a copyright holder will decide to just let a title go truly to the "freeware" model. Underdogs.com was once actually the worst when it came to the titles they put up, but trimmed down a while back. If you look through their titles you'll find alot of rediculously old stuff you'd think should be there (and once was) but gone now due to copyright holder intervention. Now after that.. off to go check out System shock. |
