FOFC Malarky II: 4th Question
FOFC Malarky rules <---
"Contestants" will answer questions asked and vote for the right answer, while "judges" will just vote for the right answer after all answers have been submitted. Question #4: To what does the 'bitter end' refer? PMs for bluffs and answers are being sent now. Just a friendly reminder: Others are welcome to post as they wish, but only answers given by players will be considered for voting. Please do not post answers from the web or attempt to assist the players. Please do not look up the answers on the internet. Please make one 'clear' distinction between your answer and the others. Thanks!

It's actually originated as a nautical term. When you drop anchor, you secure the rope to posts, which are called "bits". The bitter end, therefore, is when you're at the end of your rope.

The bitter end actually comes from the depression. It involves eating food, sometimes rotten and bitter, until it is gone, letting nothing waste. From that point on, it was used to describe harsh things in life that had to be done, such as wars, fat chicks and cartwheels.

It refers to death, a sad and sometimes bitter conclusion to life.

The bitter end refers to a task that one performs for a long period of time to no avail. This task takes up a lot of effort by the individual without them knowing that there is no possible positive ending in sight.

The bitter end refers to a turnip. Its flavor is consistent until you get to its bitter end.
