Space Empires IV PBW game
Would anyone be interested in playing a Space Empires IV PBW game? I just joined one, and thought I'd see if anyone else would like to join as there are still a few vacancies.
The game is called newbies in space on the PBW site, if you are interested. |

Play by Web. It's pretty much play-by-email, but it has a nifty web interface that makes it much easier.

Ahh sweet, once I get a job this'll be a must buy.
Hey, not to threadjack, but I figure if anyone can answer this it's you! I've just recently began an interest in the space sim genre on the PC, mostly due to high recommendations from some friends on Freespace 2. Unfortunately the only place I can find to buy it is eBay, and it don't come cheap, so I'm going to be waiting on one of my friends to loan me a copy. Anyway, I've been reading up on it, and it's got me more interested in Sci-Fi as a whole. My question is, I what are some quality sci-fi books with a focus on ship fighting/trading? I've never been much into the genre, but what little I do know doesn't really focus on that. That's it for my threadjack...at least it had something to do with the thread! I just downloaded the original Wing Commander, never played a game in that series either..which I'm ashamed of. Time to give it a whirl. |

I would recommend the Honor Harrington series, for sure.
And if you are playing Wing Commander, make sure you get MoSlo or some other slow down program. You have been warned! |

Once the internet is working again at home (hopefully today) I'd be interested in a SEIV MP game. I know it is probably too late for this one, but let me know of a future game if you don't mind.

Can you give a quickie review of this game? How does it compare to Galactic Civilizations or Masters Of Orion?

Would be nice if it was downloadable and that thread did help. Thanks.
I'm going to try the demo as soon as I have time. |

Well, if a few more people are interested, I can start a FOFC game, but as a warning, my PBEM games don't do very well...

i saw your last attempt (dominions?) failed a bit horribly. Not your fault. People have to be interested.
[edit] Perhaps I can find new ways to motivate them. Last edited by Bonegavel : 06-23-2004 at 01:01 PM. |

As for Space Empires IV, awesome game. I'd offer to play but I don't have the gold version and have plenty to do as it is.

I think I would be up for either Space Empires IV or Dominions II, but I wouldn't be able to play until the second week in July.
I've got both games, but I'd be pretty clueless at both of them. Never played an online strategy game before and don't have much experience with these two games. Still, it'd be fun to play, as long as you wouldn't mind having someone in the game that would probably be an easy target. |

Next time invite me...if I can find my CD's...or my manual.
Damn this moving. Well anyway, if you guys decide to get another Dom2 game going at some point, it'll get me motivated to scrounge it up. As an aside, I've spent my last two days playing Freespace II which is quickly climbing the ranks as one of the best games I've ever played. I actually switched after about 3 missions to a port that folks did of the first game using the 2nd's engine. Having a blast! Anyone ever try Starships Unlimited? Doing some research on SEIV and I ran across that, and to be honest it sounds like a game I would enjoy more than Space Empires. I dig the focus on the ships, not on the planets. Not sure if it's any good though. |

Never tried Starships Unlimited. If you are interested in ships, I would recommend Space Empires: Starfury over SEIV. It's the SE universe with a starship simulator. I never played it, because I'm into all 4 of the Xs.

I bought Starships Unlimited during my wait for GalCiv and pretty much put it down after a week. Just didn't click with me. To each his own, to his own his each.

I'm a relative neophyte and have never played a PBW game of SEIV Gold, but I am interested if you decide to start a game.
