Sporting News Fantasy Baseball
I'm am using the free version of the Sportingnews.com slary cap game. I'm just playing with a few of my friends. The rules are that you have 30 million to buy three pitchers, a catcher, two outfielders, 1B/3B, and a 2B/ SS. The pitchers could be a closer or starter does not matter you could have three closers if you want. You have an option of either 1B or 3B. The same goes for 2B and SS. So here we go I hope I have a good year and good luck to all who will play fantasy baseball this year.

My first focus is on my pitching staff. I will be using a three starter set up for my team. Here are some canidates for my team.
Barry Zito OAK 23-5/ 229.1 IP/ 182 K/ 2.75 ERA 7.80 Milliom Bartolo Colon CWS 20-8/ 233.1 IP/ 149 K/ 2.93 ERA 6.85 Milllion Roy Oswalt HOU 19-9/ 233.0 IP/ 208 K/ 3.01 ERA 6.58 Million Mark Buehrle CWS 19-12/ 239.0 IP/ 134 K/ 3.58 ERA 5.92 Million Paul Byrd ATL 17-11/ 228.1 IP/ 129 K/ 3.90 ERA 5.56 Million Freddy Garcia SEA 16-10/ 223.2 IP/ 181 K/ 4.39 ERA 5.18 Million Roger Clemens NYY 13-6/ 180.0 IP/ 192 K/ 4.35 ERA 4.96 Million Mark Prior CHC 6-6/ 116.2 IP/ 147 K/ 3.32 ERA 4.39 Million Eric Milton MIN 13-9/ 171.0 IP/ 121 K/ 4.84 ERA 3.90 Million Kazuhisa Ishii LA 14-10/ 154.0 IP/ 143 K/ 4.27 ERA 3.88 Million Barry Zito could be a very good ace for my team. Is he worth the almost 8 million dollars. Bartolo Colon looks like a better option because he is a proven starter with a really strong arm and will go 6-7 innings every game. Roy Oswalt is a flame thrower but again he started last year off really slow but heated up after the All-Star break. The Rocket looks like a steal at only 5 million. I say this will be a great last year for him. I am predicting 15-18 wins with around 250 strikouts. Byrd, Buehrle, and Garcia are reliable young arms that are worth the price. Prior may be a good option later down the road right now he is a little bit of a wildcard. I think he will have a Sophmore slump. Milton and Ishii both started off hot but had thier seasons messed up by injuries.

Now I will look at the offensive side of the ball. Catcher is the hardest spot to get good players there is only one reliable player at the catcher position that is Mike Piazza.
Catcher: I don't want to spend much money on this position I will save my money for the outfield. Brandon Inge DET 7 HR/ 24 RBI/ 203 AVG 1.15 Million Ramon Hernandez OAK 7 HR/ 42 RBI/ 233 AVG 1.76 Million Damian Miller CHC 11 HR/ 42 RBI/ 249 AVG 2.10 Million 1B/ 3B: I'm looking for a guy with some decent home run numbers I want a slugger here. Eric Chavez OAK 34 HR/ 109 RBI/ 275 AVG 4.99 Million Eric Hinske TOR 24 HR/ 84 RBI/ 277 AVG 4.73 Million Paul Konerko CWS 27 HR/ 104 RBI/ 304 AVG 4.62 Million 2B/ SS: I am looking for a contact hitter with some speed. Jimmy Rollins PHI 82 R/ 245 AVG/ 31 SB/ 60 RBI 3.57 Million David Eckstein ANA 107 R/ 293 AVG/ 21 SB/ 63 RBI 4.19 Million Rafael Furcal ATL 95 R/ 275 AVG/ 27 SB/ 47 RBI 3.47 Million I will put up my outfielder canidates up a little later tonight or tommorrow afternoon.

Update:
The Jesus Crew have now released their 2003 pitching staff. P Colon, Bartolo -CWS- 20 Wins 2.93 ERA The hard throwing righty has 85 career wins. After a change of scenery to the Chicago White Sox he is feeling refreshed and ready to get back at the team that traded him to the Expos. A very reliable pitcher that averages around 6 innings a game. He should help the Jesus Crew in their hopes to win the division. He is definately the ace of this staff. My predictions for this season: 21-6/ 2.86 ERA/ 185 K P Milton, Eric -MIN- 13 Wins 4.84 ERA A bit of a down year for Milton as he was bothered by injuries most of the year. The key for this season for Milton is to stay healthy. A solid guy at the three spot with three consecutive seasons of 10 or more wins. Predictions: 15-8/ 4.12 ERA/ 158 K P Estes, Shawn -CHN- 5 Wins 5.10 ERA The Jesus Crew is not exspecting much out of Shawn Estes just a few good starts and maybe a 10 win season. Prediction: 10-8/ 4.66 ERA/ 144 K Cash Left: 17,250,000

The Jesus Crew now releases their Line-up card. A few surpries and maybe a few diamonds in the ruff.
Catcher: -Brandon Inge- 7 HR 24 RBI Inge is a very young catcher on a really bad team. A tough defensive catcher with a cannon for an arm. He should play more this year as he has proved a lot since being called up early in the year by the Tigers. Prediction: 9 HR 42 RBI Third Baseman: -Edgardo Alfonzo- 308 AVG 16 HR 56 RBI After a very dissapointing year with the Mets Edgardo has a new commitment to win. A change of scenery should go a long way for helping Alfonzo get back in the groove. He should be one of the diamonds in the ruff we are looking for. Prediction: 296 AVG 22 HR 89 RBI Short Stop: -Carlos Febles- 4 HR 26 RBI Febles is a very good base runner and should a good amount of stolen bases this year. He should be a minor contributor but hopefully consistant for the Jesus Crew. Prediction: 5 HR 42 RBI Right Field: -Magglio Ordonez- 320 AVG 38 HR 135 RBI Magglio has been one of the best right fielders in the league for the past three years. He can hit and hit for power. Plus he will pick a few stolen bases. A really complete offensive player he can do it all with a bat in his hand. Left Field: -Moises Alou- 275 AVG 15 HR 61 RBI Some are saying that Alou is coming to spring training in the best shape in his life. The injury prone Moises Alou has missed games in the past few seasons. But his new commitment to physical fitness have many thinking that he could have a huge year for the Cubs. A steal of a deal maybe another diamond in the ruff. Prediction: 282 AVG 32 HR 112 RBI
