Post Riverside Crawl

Please welcome the newest NFL dynasty in the making, the. . .

Riverside Crawl

I've decided to post a career thread here to increase my sense of
connection to the team. I also hope that the focus on player
development that will be very necessary to this set of house rules
will payoff when TCY comes along. Tracking how that process works
in detail will allow me to see what I really know, and whether
the assumptions I've made in the past were really accurate.

The Crawl (and any of you who've lived in Southern California
know why I chose that name), will enter battle under house rules
modeled after those of the GroupThink challenge (see one of their
threads for details). The key difference is that since I'm starting
in 2002, I have chosen not to use any current NFL players. In
the early years of the franchise that will be a significant
handicap. The Crawl will certainly be the most inexperienced
team in the league for several years.

The Crawl are fortunate to have a very strong staff as they enter
their first season.

After the expansion draft, all players were released, as all players
made available were real NFL players. The pick of the non-NFL
unrestricted free agents were signed to make up the base roster.

2002 Draft

1. Riverside - Gould, Blake, QB, South Carolina
33. Riverside - Dotson, Dwight, WR, Southern Mississippi
65. Riverside - Prior, Sherman, CB, Blackburn
97. Riverside - Flannery, Gerald, QB, Drake
129. Riverside - Flynn, Donnell, FB, Miami, Florida
161. Riverside - Everett, Jared, LB, Syracuse
193. Riverside - Conway, Sam, G, California

The draft was very weak in Linebackers. That will create some
significant problems on Defense. I didn't expect Flannery to still
be available in the third round, and couldn't pass him up in the
fourth. Dotson makes me a little nervous, as receiver is one of
the weaknesses of my scout.

Vinny Witte, S - Arthroscopic Knee Surgery, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

The loss of Witte at S shouldn't hurt too much, though with a roster this thin any
injury can make a difference. Neither QB stood out, but Gould was a little more erratic.
I'll start Flannery week 1 and alternate until one proves he's superior.

Riverside Crawl 2002 Regular Season Schedule

Week 1 Indianapolis Colts L, 10-26 55,000 0

I should expect a lot of games like this. The Crawl was never really in this game.

Dwight Dotson, RIV, WR - 6 receptions for 123 yards, 1 TDs.
Wendell Norris, RIV, S - 0 tackles, 2 assists, 0.0 sacks, 2 interceptions.

Larry Linquist, RB - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Chris Wallace, LB - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Casey Watkins, P - Broken Finger, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Vinny Witte, S - Arthroscopic Knee Surgery, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 2 TENNESSEE TITANS L, 16-21 44,800 3,600

We dominate statistically and in time of possession, but give up two late TDs to snatch defeat
from the jaws of victory. Two interceptions and a lost fumble hurt.

Clyde Grider, RIV, RB - 21 carries for 109 yards, 0 TDs.

Larry Linquist, RB - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Chris Wallace, LB - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Antoine Morin, CB - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Michael Seifert, G - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Vinny Witte, S - Arthroscopic Knee Surgery, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 3 Seattle Seahawks L, 20-26 55,900 2,500

We give up a field goal in the closing seconds to send it to OT, then lose when the offense can't
get anything going in the extra time.

Clyde Grider, RIV, RB - 27 carries for 111 yards, 0 TDs.

Jumbo Sells, TE - Bruised Ribcage, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Chris Wallace, LB - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Antoine Morin, CB - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Mark Burroughs, S - Bruised Ribcage, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Heath Kong, LB - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Sherman Prior, CB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Vinny Witte, S - Arthroscopic Knee Surgery, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 4 OAKLAND RAIDERS W, 40-6 44,200 2,500

We pick up six interceptions and return a fumble for a TD on the way to routing a division
rival for our first victory.

Wendell Norris, RIV, S - 2 tackles, 0 assists, 0.0 sacks, 3 interceptions.
Defensive Player of the Week: Wendell Norris, S, Riverside Crawl

Jumbo Sells, TE - Bruised Ribcage, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Heath Kong, LB - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Sherman Prior, CB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Vinny Witte, S - Arthroscopic Knee Surgery, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 5 DETROIT LIONS L, 13-48 46,200 5,100

Back to normal. I don't think the game was as close as the score would indicate. We mustered a
personal low -1 yards rushing for the game.

Shaun Whitt, RIV, WR - 8 receptions for 128 yards, 0 TDs

Richard Cooper, T - Broken Jaw, full strength in 2-3 Months
Heath Kong, LB - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 6 KANSAS CITY CHIEFS L, 20-30 44,800 2,000

We give up 10 unanswered in the 4th in an otherwise very close game.

Conrad Noriega, RIV, WR - 8 receptions for 80 yards, 1 TDs

Richard Cooper, T - Broken Jaw, full strength in 2-3 Months
Derrick Mulkey, RB - Stretched Knee Ligament, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Dwight Dotson, WR - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Casey Watkins, P - Broken Finger, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 7 SAN DIEGO CHARGERS L, 10-30 40,800 3,600

Nice game from Gould and Noriega, too bad the Defense forced us into having to throw that much.

Blake Gould, RIV, QB - 17 for 35, 332 yards, 1 TDs
Conrad Noriega, RIV, WR - 6 receptions for 132 yards, 0 TDs

Richard Cooper, T - Broken Jaw, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Derrick Mulkey, RB - Stretched Knee Ligament, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Dwight Dotson, WR - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 8 SEATTLE SEAHAWKS L, 17-21 41,400 3,100

We give up another 4th Quarter lead.

Blake Gould, RIV, QB - 19 for 30, 214 yards, 2 TDs

Richard Cooper, T - Broken Jaw, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Derrick Mulkey, RB - Stretched Knee Ligament, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 9 OPEN

We've been in a couple of close games, while getting shelled in several others. I fear more tough
times ahead.

Week 10 Oakland Raiders L, 3-35 47,400 5,600

Oakland gets their revenge. We go through all 3 QBs on the roster in this one. We moved the ball
better than the Raiders, but interceptions went their way this game.

Richard Cooper, T - Broken Jaw, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Kenyon Ogden, T - Bruised Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Heath Kong, LB - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 11 Chicago Bears L, 3-33 49,600 6,500

Another woeful offensive performance, including 3 INTs for Gould. Flannery will get the nod next week.

Richard Cooper, T - Broken Jaw, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Kenyon Ogden, T - Bruised Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Michael Seifert, G - Broken Nose, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Raymond Reyman, CB - Concussion, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 12 Denver Broncos L, 10-37 76,100 2,200

So much for a QB change to turn things around. Flannery connects on less than half his passes, but at
least we put a TD on the board for the first time in three games.

Kenyon Ogden, T - Bruised Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Lenny Weinmeister, DE - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Carlton Wilson, DT - Broken Nose, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Clyde Grider, RB - Dislocated Shoulder, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Donnell Flynn, FB - Broken Nose, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Michael Seifert, G - Broken Nose, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jared Everett, LB - Dislocated Shoulder, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 13 San Diego Chargers L, 10-24 44,100 3,900

Gould is back and turns in a decent performance. Too bad our rushing defense apparently missed the
flight to San Diego. We give up over 200 yards on the ground in this sound beating.

Richard Cooper, T - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Carlton Wilson, DT - Broken Nose, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Chris Wallace, LB - Broken Finger, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Clyde Grider, RB - Dislocated Shoulder, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Casey Watkins, P - Hip Pointer, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Kyle Osborne, DT - Stretched Knee Ligament, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Kelvin Foreman, LB - Bruised Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jared Everett, LB - Dislocated Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 14 DENVER BRONCOS L, 7-31 38,000 2,500

Offensive woes, defensive woes; a real expansion team performance. We give up over 200 yards rushing
again, this time to only one back.

Clyde Grider, RB - Dislocated Shoulder, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Casey Watkins, P - Hip Pointer, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Kyle Osborne, DT - Stretched Knee Ligament, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Jared Everett, LB - Dislocated Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 15 Tampa Bay Buccaneers L, 17-37 63,100 8,600

We just hope to end the year without any significant injuries to players with a future for us.

Blake Gould, RIV, QB - 18 for 27, 218 yards, 1 TDs

Johnny Bullock, DT - Bruised Sternum, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Clyde Grider, RB - Dislocated Shoulder, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Casey Watkins, P - Hip Pointer, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Kyle Osborne, DT - Stretched Knee Ligament, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 16 BALTIMORE RAVENS L, 7-27 37,300 6,700

If you don't have anything good to say. . .

Johnny Bullock, DT - Bruised Sternum, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Clyde Grider, RB - Dislocated Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Casey Watkins, P - Hip Pointer, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Kyle Osborne, DT - Stretched Knee Ligament, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jared Everett, LB - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 17 Kansas City Chiefs L, 6-19 75,400 5,500

Flannery got the nod, only to move him off his disgruntled status. We may need him next year, but his
performance left a lot to be desired.

Wendell Norris, RIV, S - 8 tackles, 3 assists, 0.0 sacks, 1 interceptions

Johnny Bullock, DT - Bruised Sternum, full strength in 2003
Clyde Grider, RB - Dislocated Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Casey Watkins, P - Hip Pointer, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Riddick Holman, DT - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

After a 1-15 inaugural season, the Crawl have no where to go but
up in 2003. We took a chance drafting a couple of QBs in our initial
season, but there wasn't a lot of talent elsewhere. We hope that
a year of development for our QBs will start to pay off this season.
You can frequently find impact rookies on defense, at RB, and WR, but
very rarely find a QB who can contribute immediately.

The Crawl staff will remain unchanged, though it's clear that signs
of aging are starting to appear.

As none of our players have more than 3 years of experience, we can
skip by the Franchise designation step. Ticket prices will remain unchanged.

We receive two trade offers. One is for Bullock,
our best DT, and offers a player with real NFL experience. It's quickly dismissed.
The second offers a 5th rounder for Flannery. We spent a 4th on him last year,
and think he's potentially worth a lot more.

Holman was Demanding a trade, but no one was interested. If he didn't have
the skills to earn enough playing time to make him happy year one, he certainly wasn't
going to be any happier year two.

There were few players of note worth pursuing in the first 10 weeks of
FA. We went after New England's #13 pick from last year. He's a S who was probably
a bust for them, but will be good enough to get a lot of playing time for us.

In the last 10 weeks, we sign 2 LBs and a DT. Both are significant
areas of need for the Crawl. We resign Hudgens, Blair, Watkins and Gibson on their
terms. The others were asking too much, even for a team with a lot of cap room.
They'll be invited back to camp, but I don't expect them to stick around.

After FA, we get another trade offer. This one is for Weinmeister,
our best DE. It also involves a real NFL player and is quickly dismissed.

129. Riverside - Shepherd, Brian, G, Oregon
161. Riverside - McKenzie, Junior, RB, Michigan

If my scout is right about Hughes, he could be one of the best LBs I've
ever had. Ellard and Sanford are also look very good. Both are the kind of player
I'd take in the first round on a team with fewer holes to fill. If the others hold
up, they should all see significant playing time this year.

2003 Breakouts/Busts

No big breakouts or busts. Some notable improvements in current ability from:

DE Marvin Lucio 5 8 2 2004
CB Sherman Prior 8 11 2 2004
FB Stan Martin 7 10 2 2004

Some notable disappointments in future potential from:

  RB Junior McKenzie 7 7 1 2005
P Casey Watkins 7 8 2 2005
RB Clyde Grider 7 7 2 2004
CB Raymond Reyman 5 6 2 2005

After camp, we receive four trade offers. All but one involve real NFL players.
I am offered Jacksonville's 2nd round pick for QB Flannery. He has more potential
than QB Gould, so we pass.

The Crawl sold 35,700 season tickets for the season
out of a capacity of 66,700.

Riverside Crawl 2003 Exhibition Schedule

Week 1 OPEN

Week 2 New York Jets L, 7-17 54,000 3,800

Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 3 TENNESSEE TITANS L, 20-40 38,600 4,000

Skip Meier, WR - Hip Pointer, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 4 New York Giants L, 20-34 75,800 3,700

Jerald Burke, CB - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Skip Meier, WR - Hip Pointer, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 5 Buffalo Bills W, 27-21 75,400 8,700

Oliver Word, T - Broken Nose, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Skip Meier, WR - Hip Pointer, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Gould has a firm grasp on the starting QB position. Hughes looked
good in very limited time. The defense still gave up a lot of points, but
interceptions thrown by Flannery resulted in several cheap scores for Crawl
opponents. The Crawl is still far from a .500 team, but should definitely
fare better than 1-15.

Riverside Crawl 2003 Regular Season Schedule

Week 1 NEW YORK JETS W, 41-27 48,000 4,000

Easily the most dominating performance the Crawl have put
together. It did come with a cost, as QB Gould goes out midway through the
game with a broken finger. Flannery performed very well in relief and will
need to keep it up for at least another week.

Clyde Grider, RIV, RB - 27 carries for 170 yards, 0 TDs
Shaun Whitt, RIV, WR - 7 receptions for 131 yards, 1 TDs

Oliver Word, T - Broken Nose, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Blake Gould, QB - Broken Finger, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Skip Meier, WR - Hip Pointer, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 2 Tennessee Titans W, 13-10 53,500 1,100

The Crawl march 80 yards in 13 plays on their final possession,
sealing the victory with a 32 yard field goal with :11 left on the clock. Rookie
phenom Hughes again picks up a minor injury.

Gerald Flannery, RIV, QB - 21 for 32, 225 yards, 0 TDs

Lenny Hudson, DE - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Blake Gould, QB - Broken Finger, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Skip Meier, WR - Hip Pointer, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 3 SAN DIEGO CHARGERS W, 23-8 49,400 3,500

Three in a row! A very solid game on both sides of the ball. I
knew the team was better, but I'm not sure they're this much better.

Gerald Flannery, RIV, QB - 20 for 32, 261 yards, 1 TDs
Clyde Grider, RIV, RB - 22 carries for 109 yards, 1 TDs
Dwight Dotson, RIV, WR - 10 receptions for 178 yards, 0 TDs

Lenny Hudson, DE - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 4 Oakland Raiders W, 35-14 46,400 4,900

QB Gould returns in a big way as the Crawl roll, scoring 28
unanswered points in the second half.

Blake Gould, RIV, QB - 21 for 31, 296 yards, 3 TDs

Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 5 San Francisco 49ers L, 10-40 66,800 2,000

Back to earth with a resolving thud. Gould throws 4 INTS, two that get
returned for TDs.

Junior McKenzie, RIV, RB - 10 carries for 108 yards, 1 TDs

Lenny Weinmeister, DE - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 6 Seattle Seahawks L, 16-46 52,700 6,800

While the Crawl wasn't as good as their 4-0 start would indicate, they
aren't as bad as the scores of the last two games would indicate. Sanford should be
embarrassed to claim Defensive honors for a team that allowed 46 points.

Wes Sanford, RIV, S - 5 tackles, 4 assists, 0.0 sacks, 2 interceptions
Defensive Player of the Week: Wes Sanford, S, Riverside Crawl

Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 7 Kansas City Chiefs L, 13-23 78,900 0

A subpar performance from Gould and a bad day for the defense lead
to a third straight loss.

Sam Conway, G - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 8 San Diego Chargers L, 0-10 51,600 2,100

Flannery got the start to try to spark the struggling offense. The plan
failed as the Crawl get shut out for the first time in franchise history. Hughes showed
a little of what he's capable of, though nagging injuries continue to plague him.

Billy Joe Hughes, RIV, LB - 13 tackles, 1 assists, 0.0 sacks, 0 interceptions
Marvin Lucio, RIV, DE - 2 tackles, 1 assists, 3.0 sacks, 0 interceptions

Sam Conway, G - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Junior McKenzie, RB - Pulled Groin, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 9 OPEN

If you'd told me the Crawl would be at .500 at the mid-way point of the
season, I'd have taken that. I just didn't think it would come in 4-0 and 0-4 runs.

Week 10 OAKLAND RAIDERS W, 24-6 40,000 4,000

A very costly victory as three players go down for 3-5 weeks, and another
is lost of the season.

Jerald Burke, RIV, CB - 2 tackles, 2 assists, 0.0 sacks, 2 interceptions
Defensive Player of the Week: Jerald Burke, CB, Riverside Crawl

Blake Gould, QB - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Donnell Flynn, FB - Bruised Shoulder, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Sam Conway, G - Torn Knee Cartilage, full strength in 2004
Vince Thatcher, LB - Broken Hand, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Junior McKenzie, RB - Pulled Groin, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 11 NEW ORLEANS SAINTS L, 14-24 46,700 4,500

The passing game continues to struggle. Hughes gets another strong and
healthy game on the books.

Billy Joe Hughes, RIV, LB - 10 tackles, 4 assists, 0.0 sacks, 0 interceptions

Blake Gould, QB - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Donnell Flynn, FB - Bruised Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Stan Martin, FB - Sprained Neck, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Sam Conway, G - Torn Knee Cartilage, full strength in 2004
Vince Thatcher, LB - Broken Hand, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 12 DENVER BRONCOS L, 6-22 45,400 4,500

The bright point was a 99 yard TD drive as time expired to avoid the
shutout.

Gerald Flannery, RIV, QB - 21 for 41, 273 yards, 1 TDs

Blake Gould, QB - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Donnell Flynn, FB - Bruised Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Stan Martin, FB - Sprained Neck, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Sam Conway, G - Torn Knee Cartilage, full strength in 2004
Neil Kirk, DT - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Vince Thatcher, LB - Broken Hand, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 13 KANSAS CITY CHIEFS W, 35-20 45,400 5,500

Starting Flanker Meier is lost for the season as the Crawl get back
to .500.

Clyde Grider, RIV, RB - 19 carries for 109 yards, 2 TDs
Sherman Prior, RIV, CB - 6 tackles, 1 assists, 0.0 sacks, 2 interceptions

Blake Gould, QB - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Donnell Flynn, FB - Bruised Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Stan Martin, FB - Sprained Neck, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Sam Conway, G - Torn Knee Cartilage, full strength in 2004
Vince Thatcher, LB - Broken Hand, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Skip Meier, WR - Broken Jaw, full strength in 2004

Week 14 Denver Broncos W, 27-24 76,100 1,500

A HUGE win in Denver puts the Crawl in the final Wild Card spot with three
games to play. Gould is healthy again, but Flannery's performed better this season and will
hold the starting spot for now.

Lenny Weinmeister, RIV, DE - 2 tackles, 2 assists, 3.5 sacks, 0 interceptions

Donnell Flynn, FB - Bruised Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Stan Martin, FB - Sprained Neck, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Sam Conway, G - Torn Knee Cartilage, full strength in 2004
Vince Thatcher, LB - Broken Hand, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Skip Meier, WR - Broken Jaw, full strength in 2004

Week 15 CAROLINA PANTHERS W, 34-11 48,000 3,000

A strong overall game guarantees the Crawl their first .500 season and keeps
them in the thick of the playoff hunt heading to AFC Central leading Cincinnati next week.
Injuries to Noriega, Kong, and Ellard will be problems.

Lenny Weinmeister, RIV, DE - 1 tackles, 0 assists, 3.5 sacks, 0 interceptions

Conrad Noriega, WR - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Stan Martin, FB - Sprained Neck, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Sam Conway, G - Torn Knee Cartilage, full strength in 2004
Heath Kong, LB - Concussion, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Skip Meier, WR - Broken Jaw, full strength in 2004
Omar Ellard, CB - Concussion, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 16 Cincinnati Bengals L, 24-31 55,900 3,200

A good game, but one the Bengals deserved to win. The Crawl are on the
outside of the playoff hunt looking in entering their last game against Seattle. Gould
isn't happy about it, but Flannery will keep the starting job.

Gerald Flannery, RIV, QB - 16 for 29, 313 yards, 2 TDs
Dwight Dotson, RIV, WR - 6 receptions for 164 yards, 0 TDs

Conrad Noriega, WR - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Sam Conway, G - Torn Knee Cartilage, full strength in 2004
C.J. Light, S - Pulled Groin, full strength in 2004
Skip Meier, WR - Broken Jaw, full strength in 2004
Omar Ellard, CB - Concussion, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 17 SEATTLE SEAHAWKS L, 9-10 40,500 6,500

Seattle wins on a field goal with :05 remaining, but the game was over
for the Crawl long before as every team they needed to lose to clinch a Wild Card spot
came up with a win. Still a very strong performance from a very young team.

Conrad Noriega, WR - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 2004
Lenny Weinmeister, DE - Sprained Back, full strength in 2004
Sam Conway, G - Torn Knee Cartilage, full strength in 2004
Heath Kong, LB - Broken Finger, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
C.J. Light, S - Pulled Groin, full strength in 2004
Skip Meier, WR - Broken Jaw, full strength in 2004
Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Bruised Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Omar Ellard, CB - Concussion, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Last year far surpassed expectations for the Crawl. A .500 record, and
in the playoff hunt going into the final week of the season, was a lofty
goal even for this year. The biggest problem with this premature success
is that it will drop the Crawl to mid-round picks in the draft, when in
reality they still need immediate impact players at a number of positions.

The Crawl staff looks likely to change, despite last years success. Kaplan
is now weak in two signficant need areas (R and LB), and England's contract
is up. His weakness on OL and YT, combined with his age, have us looking
elsewhere for leadership.

We make offers on two scouts, but both turn us down. Kaplan will have to

Like last year, as none of our players have more than 4 years of experience,
we can skip by the Franchise designation step. Ticket prices will remain unchanged.

We receive three trade offers. One is for Sanford, last year's third,
round pick at S. It involves a real NFL player. Another is for QB Flannery, but we
continue to believe he's worth far more than a 5th rounder. The last is for Ellard,
last year's second round CB. Dallas offers their #1 pick, the first overall, and a
very good second year C. Ellard looks better than any Secondary player available
this year (explaining Dallas' outrageously valuable offer), and we'd like to keep him
as ours for years to come.

Position/Player Current Est Future Est Exp Sgnd
C Irving Hudgens 4 6 3 2005
LB Jared Everett 5 8 3 2004

Hudgens was demanding a trade, and Everett was livid. Neither position
is particularly strong or deep on the Crawl roster, so if they couldn't get playing time
in the first few years, they're really going to be upset as the team improves.

2004 FA Signings

Position/Player Current Est Future Est Exp Sgnd
T Terrance Mitchell 5 11 2 2005
T Harvey Rohrbach 2 9 2 2005

  FB Donnell Flynn 9 10 3 2005
TE Jumbo Sells 8 8 4 2004

In the first 10 weeks we pick up a T our scout rated the 4th best available
overall. His top three were all real NFL players. With another set of
rules we might have waited for his price to drop. With our weak offensive
line, we couldn't afford to.

In the last 10 weeks we add a strong backup CB who should actually save us
some cap room by letting us cut an overpriced backup on our current roster.
Our other two offers go to a T and a G who should both get signficant playing
time this season. We also choose to resign Flynn and Sells. Our other FAs
are asking for too much for their talent level. We will have a lot of FAs at
the end of this season, and cap room is going to matter for the first time
this year.

After FA, Jacksonville again makes an offer for Flannery. Their second pick
is tempting, but Flannery could well be our starter this year based on last
year's performance.

2004 Draft

17. Riverside - Backes, Grant, T, Auburn
49. Riverside - Imme, Jimmie, C, Auburn
81. Riverside - Musial, Edward, DE, Louisiana-Monroe
113. Riverside - Driggers, Jerry, LB, North Carolina
145. Riverside - Young, Hugh, RB, Louisville
177. Riverside - Nguyen, Gene, TE, Washington
209. Riverside - Everett, Justin, C, Augustana

The Crawl signed 3 FA OL players, and spent three of their seven draft choices
on OL players. While cohesion will go way down, the talent level should go up
more than enough to make up the difference. Driggers should be able to pressure
the passer well and take some of the load off of Hughes. Young, even as a fifth
round pick, has the most talent of any RB the Crawl has had. Put him behind a
much improved OL and we should be able to take a lot of pressure off our young QBs.

2004 Undrafted Rookie FA Signings

Position/Player Current Est Future Est Exp Sgnd
DT Rondell Tate 5 10 1 2007
S Anthony Swift 4 9 1 2007

Tate has the potential to be our best DT and will allow us to say goodbye to an
overpriced Wilson. Swift has decent skills as well, and will replace Norris who
will not be resigned.

LB Driggers was a mild breakout. Some notable improvements in current ability from:

G Christian Madison 8 11 2 2006

LB Heath Kong 8 9 3 2004
CB Omar Ellard 13 16 2 2006
S Wes Sanford 10 14 2 2005

Some notable disappointments in future potential from:

  RB Junior McKenzie 6 6 2 2005
WR Skip Meier 10 12 2 2004
S Anthony Swift 4 6 1 2007
DE Lenny Weinmeister 8 8 4 2004

After camp, we receive four trade offers. All but one involve real NFL players.
I am offered Jacksonville's 2nd round pick for QB Flannery. He has more potential
than QB Gould, so we pass.

The Crawl sold 37,200 season tickets for the season
out of a capacity of 66,700.

Injuries at LB will hurt. It's not a position where the Crawl has much depth.
QB Gould performed miserably in the preseason. QB Flannery did quite well
and will begin the year as the starter. The passing game will again be an
issue. The Crawl need to find some strong receivers next year, and Kaplan
doesn't seem to be able to do it. All in all, if this year's team meets
last year's performance, I'll be happy.

Riverside Crawl 2004 Regular Season Schedule

Week 1 OAKLAND RAIDERS L, 22-36 46,300 6,200

A bruising defeat as the Crawl leave week one with 4 of their 7 LBs injured.
Oakland scored 22 in the fourth for the win. Flannery was knocked
out of the game at the half way point, and Gould will get back to
the starting position based on his strong relief performance.

Skip Meier, RIV, WR - 7 receptions for 143 yards, 2 TDs

Heath Kong, LB - Bruised Sternum, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Martin Bravo, LB - Broken Jaw, full strength in 2-3 Months
Raymond Reyman, CB - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Maurice Barnes, DE - Turf Toe, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Dustin Buckner, LB - Torn Thumb Ligament, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jerry Driggers, LB - Broken Hand, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 2 Kansas City Chiefs L, 7-17 95,000 4,700

The offense struggled again, with Gould completing on less than 50% of his
passes in what should be a ball control, short passing offense. Hughes did
his best to fill in for the entire LB crew.

Billy Joe Hughes, RIV, LB - 17 tackles, 4 assists, 0.0 sacks, 0 interceptions

Heath Kong, LB - Bruised Sternum, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Martin Bravo, LB - Broken Jaw, full strength in 2-3 Months
Raymond Reyman, CB - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Maurice Barnes, DE - Turf Toe, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Dustin Buckner, LB - Torn Thumb Ligament, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jerry Driggers, LB - Broken Hand, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 3 WASHINGTON REDSKINS L, 23-26 47,400 3,100

Washington scored the go ahead TD with :45 left on the clock. I've never
been so glad to have an early season open week, as the defense
desperately needs some rest.

Vernon Abrams, RIV, LB - 8 tackles, 1 assists, 2.0 sacks, 1 interceptions

Lenny Hudson, DE - Turf Toe, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Heath Kong, LB - Bruised Sternum, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Martin Bravo, LB - Broken Jaw, full strength in 2-3 Months
Raymond Reyman, CB - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Dustin Buckner, LB - Torn Thumb Ligament, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jerry Driggers, LB - Broken Hand, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 4 OPEN

The week off helps heal some wounds as 2 of the 4 injured LBs get clean
bills of health from the team medical staff. The Crawl now face a run
of four consecutive road games, a tough time to get back on track.

Week 5 New York Jets L, 10-16 54,400 1,800

Another tough loss for the Crawl. Our brewing QB controversy is put to
an abrupt end when Gould gets knocked out for the next 2-3 months. The
goal of a .500 season is looking pretty ambitious about now.

Lenny Weinmeister, DE - Sprained Back, full strength in 2-3 Months
Blake Gould, QB - Dislocated Elbow, full strength in 2-3 Months
Martin Bravo, LB - Broken Jaw, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 6 Seattle Seahawks W, 28-24 50,800 4,300

An 82 yard TD drive with time running down in the 4th gets the Crawl their
first win of the season.

Gerald Flannery, RIV, QB - 18 for 30, 224 yards, 2 TDs

Lenny Weinmeister, DE - Sprained Back, full strength in 2-3 Months
Blake Gould, QB - Dislocated Elbow, full strength in 2-3 Months
Martin Bravo, LB - Broken Jaw, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 7 San Diego Chargers L, 3-6 49,100 2,800

An ugly, ugly game.

Lenny Weinmeister, DE - Sprained Back, full strength in 2-3 Months
Blake Gould, QB - Dislocated Elbow, full strength in 2-3 Months
Martin Bravo, LB - Broken Jaw, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Grant Backes, T - Sprained Neck, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 8 New York Giants W, 34-12 76,700 0

If the Crawl played at this level every week, they'd be a playoff
team for sure.

Gerald Flannery, RIV, QB - 21 for 31, 295 yards, 2 TDs
Shaun Whitt, RIV, WR - 6 receptions for 157 yards, 2 TDs

Lenny Weinmeister, DE - Sprained Back, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Blake Gould, QB - Dislocated Elbow, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Martin Bravo, LB - Broken Jaw, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Grant Backes, T - Sprained Neck, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 9 INDIANAPOLIS COLTS W, 38-24 48,800 2,500

The Crawl return home jet lagged, and fall behind 24 - 7 at the
half. The second half was all theirs, however, as 31 unanswered points mark
their second consecutive strong offensive performance.

Gerald Flannery, RIV, QB - 21 for 33, 268 yards, 2 TDs
Shaun Whitt, RIV, WR - 7 receptions for 114 yards, 0 TDs

Lenny Hudson, DE - Bruised Ribcage, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Lenny Weinmeister, DE - Sprained Back, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Blake Gould, QB - Dislocated Elbow, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Neil Kirk, DT - Concussion, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Martin Bravo, LB - Broken Jaw, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Grant Backes, T - Sprained Neck, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 10 ARIZONA CARDINALS W, 38-31 49,600 4,100

An 80 yard drive that put the go ahead TD on the board with only
:11 on the clock puts the Crawl over the defending Super Bowl champs.

Clay Guthrie, RIV, RB - 11 carries for 129 yards, 1 TDs

Lenny Hudson, DE - Bruised Ribcage, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Lenny Weinmeister, DE - Sprained Back, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Blake Gould, QB - Dislocated Elbow, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Broken Finger, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 11 DENVER BRONCOS L, 10-13 48,200 3,100

Denver wins on a 53 yard FG with :22 to go in OT.

Lenny Hudson, DE - Bruised Ribcage, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Lenny Weinmeister, DE - Sprained Back, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Blake Gould, QB - Dislocated Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Heath Kong, LB - Concussion, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Broken Finger, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 12 KANSAS CITY CHIEFS L, 6-16 48,800 5,100

This was either an amazing defensive struggle or an incredibly poor
offensive showing. There were the same number of punts as first downs (18).

Billy Joe Hughes, RIV, LB - 8 tackles, 0 assists, 1.0 sacks, 0 interceptions

Lenny Hudson, DE - Bruised Ribcage, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Lenny Weinmeister, DE - Sprained Back, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Blake Gould, QB - Dislocated Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Dwight Dotson, WR - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Omar Ellard, CB - Bruised Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 13 SAN DIEGO CHARGERS L, 13-17 45,500 5,600

Improving the receiving corps has got to be a priority next year.

Lenny Hudson, DE - Bruised Ribcage, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Lenny Weinmeister, DE - Sprained Back, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Dwight Dotson, WR - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Antoine Alcott, CB - Turf Toe, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 14 Denver Broncos L, 17-20 76,100 0

Another tough loss to Denver in OT.

Gerald Flannery, RIV, QB - 18 for 33, 242 yards, 1 TDs

Lenny Hudson, DE - Bruised Ribcage, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Dwight Dotson, WR - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Clay Guthrie, RB - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Turf Toe, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 15 Jacksonville Jaguars L, 21-24 66,000 4,000

Second consecutive OT loss. Maybe a RB might not be such a bad
idea, either. The Crawl crawled for only 29 yards on 30 carries.

Gerald Flannery, RIV, QB - 21 for 33, 220 yards, 2 TDs

Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Turf Toe, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 16 Oakland Raiders L, 20-26 48,700 2,400

Third consecutive OT loss, and fourth of the season.

Maurice Barnes, RIV, DE - 5 tackles, 1 assists, 3.0 sacks, 0 interceptions

Jumbo Sells, TE - Shoulder Surgery, full strength in 2005
Sherman Prior, CB - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Skip Meier, WR - Broken Nose, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Terrance Mitchell, T - Pulled Groin, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Turf Toe, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jerry Driggers, LB - Sprained Neck, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 17 SEATTLE SEAHAWKS L, 10-41 36,800 6,700

A disappointing end to a disappointing season. The Crawl played nine games
against playoff teams, winning only one. That last place schedule is going to
look good next year.

Dwight Dotson, RIV, WR - 4 receptions for 121 yards, 1 TDs

Jumbo Sells, TE - Shoulder Surgery, full strength in 2005
Sherman Prior, CB - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Luke Wilkerson, S - Bruised Ribcage, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Terrance Mitchell, T - Pulled Groin, full strength in 2005
Billy Joe Hughes, LB - Turf Toe, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jerry Driggers, LB - Sprained Neck, full strength in 2005

Twenty-three players' contracts expired at the end of 2004. Ten of
those twenty-three would be unrestricted FAs next year. The Crawl renegotiated
(at the players' terms) deals with four of the twenty-three at the end of the 2003
regular season. Dotson and Whitt were offered new deals as the entire WR corps
had contracts expiring in 2004. The remaining nineteen FAs (nine URFAs, and ten
RFAs) will be addressed before the 2005 season.

Too many wins in year two cost the Crawl in year three. We weren't ready
for the tougher schedule that resulted, and didn't have the roster depth
to deal with injuries at LB that plagued the early season. The offense
continued to struggle without a standout RB or R. We'll have an early
pick in the draft again, and expect to bring in a new scout who can help
us identify key players at R, RB, and LB. The scout will be even more
important this year due to the large number of FAs (19) and the roster
turnover that's likely to create.

Kaplan maintained his ratings from last year, but despite some excellent
work in helping to build the team, his weakness in R and LB must be
addressed. We make an offer on BAL scout Dennis Wycheck, and are able
to attact him to the Crawl in the final week of negotiations. Wycheck
is eager to work with Coach Shellenberger to make the Crawl a playoff
contender.

We have nine UFAs entering 2005. None is talented enough that we feel a need
to Franchise them, though by their asking prices, some apparently think that
they are. Ticket prices will remain unchanged until we become winners.

LB Vernon Abrams 5 8 5 2006
LB Heath Kong 7 9 4 2006
CB Sherman Prior 10 12 4 2006

This was not a very strong FA class. Until we're a few more seasons in, our
selection will continue to be limited by a lack of experience as well as just
overall number. In the first 10 weeks we pick up a TE who looks much better
than last year's starter, and who's asking a little over a million a year less.

In the last 10 weeks we add depth to our defense, signing a DE, a LB, and a
CB. The DE will either start or be a designated pass rusher. The LB and CB
will be backups, but should see a fair amount of time. The CB wasn't be best
available, but he was close, and I just couldn't pass a chance to sign the
best name in the league, Magic Mouth Lane.

Heading to the draft we get an offer for LB Hughes. The past two years have
proven to us that he's the real deal and untouchable as far as the Crawl is
concerned.

2005 Draft

2. Riverside - Dole, Phil, WR, Butler
34. Riverside - Summers, Lance, RB, Michigan State
66. Riverside - Carr, Danny, T, Auburn
98. Riverside - McReynolds, Deron, WR, Northwestern
130. Riverside - Sebastian, Maurice, K, Mississippi
162. Riverside - Starks, Glenn, QB, Tennessee Tech
194. Riverside - Hurst, Grady, G, Washington

This was not a strong draft. The Crawl probably got better players last season
with mid-round picks. The one exception was K Sebastian. He should represent a
huge improvement over our current kicker, and might make the difference in some
of those close games we've been losing. The Crawl had hoped to grab a P in the
late rounds, but at least six talented Ps were taken in rounds four and five.
Summers will get a shot in our RB by committee attack, and Dole helps give us
the depth at WR we've been missing.

2005 Undrafted Rookie FA Signings

Position/Player Current Est Future Est Exp Sgnd
FB Jared Fisk 6 9 1 2008
WR Patrick Gillespie 6 10 1 2008
CB Brandon Hansen 5 9 1 2008

FB Fisk will be asked to play some backup TE and provide depth at both positions.
WR Gillespie was at least the equal of Whitt, at a much lower price. CB Hansen
was signed primarily for his return skills, as the Crawl only had one player
with return skills on the roster before he joined.

2005 Pre-Camp Cuts

Position/Player Current Est Future Est Exp Sgnd
WR Shaun Whitt 8 10 4 2006
K Juan McIntyre 6 7 5 UFA

WR Whitt was cut even after being renegotiated last season because of salary cap
concerns. He's a decent player, but one we can't afford. McIntyre will be
replaced by fifth round pick Sebastian.

The Crawl sold 34,400 season tickets for the season
out of a capacity of 66,700.

Riverside Crawl 2005 Exhibition Schedule

Week 1 OPEN

Week 2 Buffalo Bills W, 21-3 73,100 2,300

Wayne Howard, DT - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 3 TENNESSEE TITANS L, 21-28 40,000 4,900

Wayne Howard, DT - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 4 Atlanta Falcons L, 6-34 59,200 5,200

Heath Kong, LB - Bruised Ribcage, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Rondell Tate, DT - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jared Fisk, FB - Turf Toe, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 5 New York Jets L, 6-13 69,200 4,700

Donnell Flynn, FB - Bruised Ribcage, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Patrick Gillespie, WR - Sprained Neck, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Rookie RB Summers showed promise, putting in two 100 yard performances in the
preseason. QB Gould continues to struggle. His injuries have apparently taken
their toll, as he looks to be a lesser player than when he was first drafted.
QB Flannery will start, and Gould will stand by as an experienced reliever.
Playoff contention is a possibility if the Crawl is able to peform consistently.

Riverside Crawl 2005 Regular Season Schedule

Week 1 BUFFALO BILLS L, 10-16 42,800 3,400

A strong defensive performance, but if this is all the offense can
muster, it's going to be another long season.

Patrick Gillespie, WR - Sprained Neck, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 2 Tennessee Titans L, 13-16 50,400 2,100

The Crawl turn the ball over four times, with two INTs and two
fumbles. The Defense still performed well, but we're waiting for the offense to
show up.

Billy Joe Hughes, RIV, LB - 12 tackles, 2 assists, 0.0 sacks, 0 interceptions.

Patrick Gillespie, WR - Sprained Neck, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 3 SEATTLE SEAHAWKS W, 37-21 42,100 3,900

Gould came off the bench after Flannery went down on only the second
offensive play for the Crawl. Gould's performance was likely the best of his
pro career.

Blake Gould, RIV, QB - 22 for 31, 349 yards, 3 TDs
Skip Meier, RIV, WR - 5 receptions for 141 yards, 1 TDs
Offensive Player of the Week: Blake Gould, QB, Riverside Crawl

Gerald Flannery, QB - Bruised Sternum, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Phil Dole, WR - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Patrick Gillespie, WR - Sprained Neck, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 4 Denver Broncos W, 34-18 76,100 1,500

Summers stepped up as the Crawl roll over rival Denver.

Lance Summers, RIV, RB - 18 carries for 142 yards, 1 TDs

Magic Mouth Lane, CB - Sprained Neck, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Gerald Flannery, QB - Bruised Sternum, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers L, 12-14 60,000 4,100

The Crawl moved the ball well, but couldn't seem to get into the
end zone in their second of five consecutive road games.

Blake Gould, RIV, QB - 21 for 36, 257 yards, 1 TDs

Lenny Weinmeister, DE - Turf Toe, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Magic Mouth Lane, CB - Sprained Neck, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Gerald Flannery, QB - Bruised Sternum, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 6 San Diego Chargers W, 12-9 51,300 3,500

A mud bowl classic. Rookie K Sebastian hit on four FGs, the
last in OT for the victory.

Lenny Weinmeister, DE - Turf Toe, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Gerald Flannery, QB - Bruised Sternum, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Hugh Young, RB - Turf Toe, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 7 Kansas City Chiefs L, 7-30 93,700 7,600

Gould tossed three INTs as the offense struggled for the third
consecutive week.

Gerald Flannery, QB - Bruised Sternum, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Neil Kirk, DT - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Maurice Sebastian, K - Dislocated Shoulder, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 8 Seattle Seahawks W, 33-27 52,900 4,900

The Crawl get a win to pull to .500 at the midway point. With a
favorable schedule to close the year, a playoff berth remains a very real
possibility.

Blake Gould, RIV, QB - 20 for 29, 261 yards, 1 TDs

Gerald Flannery, QB - Bruised Sternum, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Neil Kirk, DT - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Antoine Alcott, CB - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Maurice Sebastian, K - Dislocated Shoulder, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 9

The Crawl offense is still a lot more inconsistent than I'd hoped.
The injury to Flannery certainly contributed to that. The Crawl defense
has performed well, keeping the team in games until the offense comes
around. A division title might not be too far from our reach.

Week 10 DENVER BRONCOS W, 20-10 42,800 5,400

Gould struggled, but the Crawl came up with a big win on the strength
of Sanford's 2 INT performance.

Wes Sanford, RIV, S - 4 tackles, 1 assists, 0.0 sacks, 2 interceptions
Defensive Player of the Week: Wes Sanford, S, Riverside Crawl

Antoine Alcott, CB - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Maurice Sebastian, K - Dislocated Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 11 GREEN BAY PACKERS L, 17-38 46,800 4,400

Gould threw 3 INTs trying to catch up, but this loss is on the defense.

Blake Gould, RIV, QB - 22 for 38, 337 yards, 2 TDs

Donnell Flynn, FB - Concussion, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Antoine Alcott, CB - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Maurice Sebastian, K - Dislocated Shoulder, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 12 OAKLAND RAIDERS W, 21-20 42,800 5,900

A close victory gives the Crawl a one game lead in the division over
Oakland, Denver, and KC.

Lance Summers, RIV, RB - 20 carries for 100 yards, 1 TDs

Magic Mouth Lane, CB - Bruised Sternum, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Donnell Flynn, FB - Concussion, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Antoine Alcott, CB - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Phil Dole, WR - Concussion, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 13 KANSAS CITY CHIEFS L, 24-25 43,400 5,900

A tough loss on a late FG makes for a three way tie in the west
between Riverside, Oakland, and KC. Gould was knocked out of the game at the
mid-point of the second quarter. Flannery did alright, but Gould will keep
the starter's role.

Skip Meier, RIV, WR - 5 receptions for 151 yards, 1 TDs
Neil Kirk, RIV, DT - 8 tackles, 0 assists, 0.0 sacks, 1 interceptions

Magic Mouth Lane, CB - Bruised Sternum, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Dustin Buckner, LB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Antoine Alcott, CB - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 14 Oakland Raiders W, 27-7 46,000 3,700

A huge win at Oakland as the defense picks off five Oakland passes
in a very strong overall performance.

Blake Gould, RIV, QB - 22 for 30, 252 yards, 1 TDs
Sherman Prior, RIV, CB - 3 tackles, 0 assists, 0.0 sacks, 3 interceptions
Defensive Player of the Week: Sherman Prior, CB, Riverside Crawl

Week 15 CHICAGO BEARS W, 38-10 50,100 1,900

The Crawl defense was dominant, allowing only 122 total yards.

Blake Gould, RIV, QB - 27 for 36, 291 yards, 4 TDs
Dwight Dotson, RIV, WR - 7 receptions for 102 yards, 1 TDs

Everyone is healthy!

Week 16 Cleveland Browns L, 10-27 70,300 0

Cleveland was the better team. The loss leaves the Crawl with
a one game lead over Oakland, Denver, and KC heading into the last week.

Sherman Prior, CB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Skip Meier, WR - Broken Finger, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Grant Backes, T - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 17 SAN DIEGO CHARGERS W, 28-21 43,400 4,900

The Crawl clinches the West with the win and will host Denver
in a first round playoff game. The team played another solid all around game.

Blake Gould, RIV, QB - 18 for 32, 263 yards, 1 TDs

Luke Wilkerson, S - Broken Ribs, full strength in 2006

W. Card DENVER BRONCOS W, 21-14 54,200 0

Another all around solid performance as the Crawl beat Denver
for the third time this year to advance. The Crawl will return to Cleveland for
next week's game.

Luke Wilkerson, S - Broken Ribs, full strength in 2006
Skip Meier, WR - Broken Finger, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jerry Driggers, LB - Hyperextended Knee, full strength in 2006

Division Cleveland Browns W, 18-13 70,300 0

In a huge upset, the Crawl advance. The winning TD came with
:24 remaining in the fourth in a snowy Cleveland. A strong defensive performance
kepts the Crawl in the game. We head to Miami for the AFC Championship.

Heath Kong, RIV, LB - 8 tackles, 1 assists, 1.0 sacks, 0 interceptions

Luke Wilkerson, S - Broken Ribs, full strength in 2006
Skip Meier, WR - Broken Finger, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Omar Ellard, CB - Bruised Ribcage, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Wes Sanford, S - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

League Miami Dolphins L, 20-27 93,100 0

The Crawl put up a fight, but was outmatched by a superior Miami
team. The team exceeded the goals I'd set for them this year. Now to see if
we can build on it for next year.

Vernon Abrams, RIV, LB - 11 tackles, 4 assists, 0.0 sacks, 0 interceptions.

Luke Wilkerson, S - Broken Ribs, full strength in 2006
Maurice Barnes, DE - Sprained Knee, full strength in 2006
Omar Ellard, CB - Bruised Ribcage, full strength in 2006
Jerry Driggers, LB - Hyperextended Knee, full strength in 2006

2005 Renegotiations

Fourteen players' contracts expired at the end of 2005. Six of them would be unrestricted
FAs next year. The Crawl renegotiated their deal with Weinmeister to add three more years
at his terms. There will have to be some cuts next year to be able to resign some of the
restricted FAs we couldn't find room under the cap to negotiate with this year.

The Crawl finished only one game short of the Super Bowl last season, far
exceeding my goals for the team. This year should be more challenging.
The Crawl should face a tougher schedule, and will need to cut some salary
from the team to be able to sign a 53 man roster. From here on out, the
task of balancing cap versus depth will be a significant factor.

We were able to avoid having too many serious injuries last year, and will
need to do so again this year. Some expensive vets are likely to be cut
to make room for new talent. The core of the team that made last year's
playoff run will still be together, though, so hopes are high entering 2006.

Wycheck lost some of his talent in judging LBs and S. He's still a better
fit for this team than our last scout. Shellenberger apparently has been
spending more time on defense than offense lately. His ability with RBs
has dropped, while his ability with DLs and Ss has increased.

This was a much stronger FA class, but we had no money to spend. We made a
few low dollar offers to players who considered them, but quickly went elsewhere
when a bigger offer came along. In week 20 we finally signed a DT to replace
Kirk. Kirk was rated lower by our scout, and was asking for more than twice
as much, so it was an easy call.

We have to do a lot of shuffling to make room to resign our FAs. Shepherd,
Mitchell, Driggers, and Sanford have all been strong contributors and are rated
highly by our scout. We have a couple of overpriced players who've been pushed
down to backup roles as our talent increased. We overpaid for them when we had
lots of cap room, but can't afford to keep them around any longer.

2006 Draft

27. Riverside - Berry, Jonathan, DE, Mississippi State
59. Riverside - Page, Ben, QB, Louisville
91. Riverside - Booker, Darryl, LB, Boston College
123. Riverside - Mills, Dixon, DT, Ohio
155. Riverside - Brewer, Sammy, C, Western Michigan
187. Riverside - Corcoran, Lorenzo, P, Virginia
219. Riverside - Rodrigues, Irving, S, Stanford

A decent draft, but its strengths were in positions that the Crawl already had
filled. It's against my nature to take a DE that high given the typically poor
numbers they put up in my defenses, but Berry looks to be 50% better than any
other DE on my Roster. Page looks better to my scout than last year's starter
at QB, Gould. With my #1 and #2 QBs both hitting FA together after 2007 I took
the opportunity to bring in some young talent to develop. The other picks were
to add depth to positions where expensive veterans weren't going to be around.

2006 Undrafted Rookie FA Signings

Position/Player Current Est Future Est Exp Sgnd
QB Bryant Glendon 5 14 1 2009
RB Jay Jordan 7 10 1 2009
RB Drew Bass 6 8 1 2009

T Sammy Snyder 4 7 1 2009
LB Preston Kennedy 4 7 1 2009
CB Jeffrey Farmer 3 9 1 2009
CB Lamar Murphy 5 7 1 2009
S Kirk Crawford 4 7 1 2009

QB Glendon was the other QB I'd considered in the 2nd round. He was drafted in
the 4th and cut. I'll invite him to camp to see what happens. Jordan and Bass
will get some carries in my revolving backfield. Last year Summers did well, but
I've yet to have a RB put together two seasons back to back. Like the latter
rounds of the draft, most of these players are on the roster because they take
up less cap space than the vets they will replace.

2006 Pre-Camp Cuts

DT Wayne Howard 6 7 4 2006
LB Vernon Abrams 6 8 6 2006
CB Magic Mouth Lane 7 8 6 2006
S Anthony Swift 4 6 3 2007

I hate to say goodbye to Magic Mouth, as he actually backed up his talk on the
field last year, but I paid too much to sign him, and couldn't afford to keep him.
Abrams, Barnes, Howard, and Guthrie all were overpaid vets who didn't get much time
last year and shouldn't be missed.

The Crawl sold 34,800 season tickets for the season
out of a capacity of 66,700.

Riverside Crawl 2006 Exhibition Schedule

Week 1 OPEN

Week 2 NEW YORK JETS L, 20-24 39,800 3,900

Jared Fisk, FB - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 3 CAROLINA PANTHERS L, 20-45 39,800 4,400

Jared Fisk, FB - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 4 MIAMI DOLPHINS L, 23-26 37,900 6,300

Heath Kong, LB - Stretched Knee Ligament, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Jared Fisk, FB - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Dixon Mills, DT - Broken Jaw, full strength in 2-3 Months

Week 5 St. Louis Rams L, 18-21 53,400 2,400

Heath Kong, LB - Stretched Knee Ligament, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jared Fisk, FB - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Phil Dole, WR - Broken Nose, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Dixon Mills, DT - Broken Jaw, full strength in 2-3 Months

RB Summers continued to do well. Each of the QBs got playing time, and each
played well. The rookies were more inconsistent, but even they had pretty
solid games. Flannery looks the best to our Scout, but Gould has performed
better overall. Flannery will get the initial start, and we'll rotate again
until health or performance dictates otherwise. Our defense should look better
once we start all our best defenders, instead of rotating them through like
we did this preseason. Our goal is again to play consistently. If we can do
that, we should be in the thick of things in the West again.

Riverside Crawl 2006 Regular Season Schedule

Week 1 Denver Broncos L, 3-23 76,100 1,500

Not the start we were looking for. Flannery did not play well.

Heath Kong, LB - Stretched Knee Ligament, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Phil Dole, WR - Broken Nose, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Dixon Mills, DT - Broken Jaw, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 2 SAN DIEGO CHARGERS W, 19-14 39,200 3,400

Once again, we lose a QB early in the season. Flannery did well
in relief, but we're glad we put four QBs on the roster this year. A very solid
game all around.

Lance Summers, RIV, RB - 25 carries for 114 yards, 0 TDs
Dwight Dotson, RIV, WR - 8 receptions for 105 yards, 1 TDs

Blake Gould, QB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Skip Meier, WR - Broken Foot, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Dixon Mills, DT - Broken Jaw, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 3 New Orleans Saints L, 14-24 41,800 5,300

Another weak offensive performance. Losing our second QB to injury in
as many weeks didn't help. The worst part is that the QBs aren't getting hurt on
sacks, but on running plays. Time to bump up the run percentage to give the rookies
a chance.

Gerald Flannery, QB - Hyperextended Knee, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Blake Gould, QB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Skip Meier, WR - Broken Foot, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Dixon Mills, DT - Broken Jaw, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 4 SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS L, 16-24 41,800 3,400

The Crawl allow two scoring passes over 50 yards. On the brighter side,
we didn't lose another QB.

Lance Summers, RIV, RB - 20 carries for 107 yards, 0 TDs
Dwight Dotson, RIV, WR - 5 receptions for 104 yards, 0 TDs

Johnny Bullock, DT - Bruised Ribcage, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Gerald Flannery, QB - Hyperextended Knee, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Blake Gould, QB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Skip Meier, WR - Broken Foot, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jared Fisk, FB - Broken Nose, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Dixon Mills, DT - Broken Jaw, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 5 OPEN

At the bye week we find a team struggling to put points on the board, and
to keep them off. Overall yards gained and allowed aren't bad, but a poor turnover
margin and an inability to perform in the red zone hurt. Maybe getting a healthy
veteran QB back will help.

Week 6 Miami Dolphins L, 17-23 92,300 9,400

The Crawl allow an 80 yard TD run on the first play from scrimmage, and
lose their starting QB (during another running play) seven minutes in. They still
played the defending Super Bowl champions tough, losing in OT.

Gerald Flannery, QB - Hyperextended Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jorge Urban, FB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Edward Musial, DE - Concussion, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 7 OAKLAND RAIDERS W, 42-3 36,000 5,400

We need to play Oakland more often.

Hugh Young, RIV, RB - 21 carries for 140 yards, 1 TD
Dwight Dotson, RIV, WR - 4 receptions for 84 yards, 2 TDs

Gerald Flannery, QB - Hyperextended Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jorge Urban, FB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Edward Musial, DE - Concussion, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jay Jordan, RB - Hyperextended Knee, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 8 KANSAS CITY CHIEFS L, 14-20 34,500 6,300

That we were in this game at all, after giving up 3 INTs and 2 fumbles,
is a testament to our defense. Flannery is healthy again, and Gould's last game
was far from enough to keep the starting job.

Lance Summers, RIV, RB - 23 carries for 111 yards, 0 TDs

Johnny Bullock, DT - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Jorge Urban, FB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jay Jordan, RB - Hyperextended Knee, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 9 NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS W, 24-21 39,800 5,400

Flannery struggled early, but the Crawl overcome five more turnovers
on their way to a 4th Quarter rally to steal the victory. Our -6 in turnover margin
puts us 6th worst in the league in that category.

Gerald Flannery, RIV, QB - 17 for 33, 267 yards, 2 TDs
Phil Dole, RIV, WR - 7 receptions for 156 yards, 0 TDs

Johnny Bullock, DT - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Jay Jordan, RB - Hyperextended Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 10 San Diego Chargers L, 31-33 49,800 5,200

Meier put in the third best receiving yardage performance ever, but
it wasn't enough. The Crawl defense allowed 253 yards rushing in a
truly bad showing.

Gerald Flannery, RIV, QB - 21 for 38, 406 yards, 2 TDs
Skip Meier, RIV, WR - 9 receptions for 251 yards, 1 TDs
Offensive Player of the Week: Skip Meier, WR, Riverside Crawl

Harry Callis, DE - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Johnny Bullock, DT - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Jay Jordan, RB - Hyperextended Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 11 Carolina Panthers W, 20-17 67,000 2,600

If only the Crawl could play like this every week. We go to Carolina
and hand them their first loss of the season when we score a FG in OT.

Timothy Heck, TE - Concussion, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Harry Callis, DE - Deep Thigh Bruise, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Johnny Bullock, DT - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 12 SEATTLE SEAHAWKS L, 13-41 43,300 3,900

Gould earned himself a spot in the inactive list with a five INT
performance. He may also have earned himself a spot on someone else's
roster next year. At least we play Oakland next!

Edward Musial, RIV, DE - 2 tackles, 1 assists, 3.0 sacks, 0 interceptions

Timothy Heck, TE - Concussion, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Johnny Bullock, DT - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Sherman Prior, CB - Turf Toe, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Wes Sanford, S - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 13 Oakland Raiders L, 16-38 41,700 4,800

Oakland blows us out to get their first win of the year. We now have
a turnover margin of -11, third worst in the league, and have given up
ball 32 times this season.

Gerald Flannery, RIV, QB - 15 for 30, 308 yards, 2 TDs
Dwight Dotson, RIV, WR - 5 receptions for 141 yards, 1 TDs

Sherman Prior, CB - Turf Toe, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Wes Sanford, S - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Edward Musial, DE - Sprained Neck, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 14 Seattle Seahawks W, 23-20 57,200 3,600

Not pretty, but a 52 yard FG in OT clinches the win. Flannery got
knocked around again, and was unable to finish the game.

Wes Sanford, S - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Edward Musial, DE - Sprained Neck, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jonathan Berry, DE - Broken Finger, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

Week 15 DENVER BRONCOS W, 19-7 46,600 3,900

We soundly defeat a Denver team that had clinched the AFC West title
last week. Our local paper has a poll running for new nicknames. Current
leaders include the Yo-Yo's, Teeter-Totters, and Elevators. We go up and
down, up. . .

Gerald Flannery, RIV, QB - 18 for 25, 219 yards, 2 TDs
Dwight Dotson, RIV, WR - 6 receptions for 95 yards, 2 TDs
Billy Joe Hughes, RIV, LB - 9 tackles, 3 assists, 1.0 sacks, 0 interceptions

Wes Sanford, S - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Edward Musial, DE - Sprained Neck, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jared Fisk, FB - Broken Arm, full strength in 2007

Week 16 ST. LOUIS RAMS L, 17-21 41,300 4,900

. . .and down. Two more INTs cost us any chance at a victory.

Gerald Flannery, RIV, QB - 19 for 35, 219 yards, 1 TDs

Jared Fisk, FB - Broken Arm, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 17 Kansas City Chiefs W, 17-7 93,700 2,800

Easily our best defensive performance of the season. We allow
42 yards rushing, and 31 yards passing (after subtracting 42 yards lost on
seven sacks). KC gets only five first downs all game.

Lance Summers, RIV, RB - 20 carries for 109 yards, 1 TDs
Billy Joe Hughes, RIV, LB - 12 tackles, 1 assists, 0.0 sacks, 0 interceptions

Gerald Flannery, QB - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Jared Fisk, FB - Broken Arm, full strength in 2007

Our goal for 2006 was to play consistently. If we did that, I thought that
the Crawl had a chance at another playoff berth. In some respects, we did
play consistently. We consistently turned the ball over. We consistently
allowed teams to run up and down the field on us. We consistently failed
to protect our QBs.

The veterans that we lost last year were really not of high enough caliber
to explain the drop off. In 2007, it could be more difficult to keep from
losing an important contributor to the salary cap. Still, hopes are high
that this team can rebound and make another playoff run.

Our staff's abilities remained fairly constant. I'm a little worried that
some of our turnovers may spring from Shellenberger's poor ratings with QBs
and RBs. Otherwise, these two should still have what it takes to help this
team win.

CB Omar Ellard, our 2nd round pick in 2003, gets the Franchise designation.
His loyalty is high, but so is his asking price. He's too important for us to
lose him, especially with our #2 CB also entering the FA market this year.

Ticket prices were not changed. Attendance went down last year along with
our performance, and we'd like to earn our fans back.

There was a lot of talent available in the FA market, but everyone wanted more money
than I had to spend. S Hardaway signed in week 10 for very little money on a three
year deal. LB McLendon should take some of the load off of Hughes. We resign three
of our own key contributors and a role player at FB.

We're currently carrying 4 QBs, two with big salaries. Flannery is asking for a
renegotiated deal that will lock him up for four more years with little to no net
change in this year's salary. Gould is asking for a hefty raise and only wants a
three year deal. Despite his $3+ million dollar bonus this year, Gould may not make
it to camp.

43. Riverside - Headley, Harvey, TE, Colorado
75. Riverside - Streb, Jake, T, Pittsburgh
107. Riverside - Preston, Drew, TE, South Carolina

The Crawl had TE, CB & WR as its biggest need positions. I hate to take a TE that
early, and a there was some depth at the position, so we thought we'd see who
dropped. There was only one real 1st round CB, but an eye popping WR was too
good to pass up. Hanrahan was far and away the best WR of a draft thin in that
position. He will likely be the #1 guy entering the season, and should take
some of the pressure off of Dotson, who has served us well, but has dropped too
many key passes to ignore. My scout had Headley as the 2nd best TE overall in
the draft, and with the star CB gone, we are glad to make him ours. Other picks
were a lot less satisfying, even though their quality is quite high. T Streb
will learn this year, and likely start at RT next year. TE Preston is well
skilled and should be a solid backup. RB Rodgers was more of an insurance pick,
as the current backup RBs are pretty weak. S Southern has the potential to be
a solid all-around S, but isn't outstanding in any area. S Cunningham is more
likely to play at CB than S, and could prove to be a steal.

2007 Undrafted Rookie FA Signings

Position/Player Current Est Future Est Exp Sgnd
WR Antoine Williams 7 9 1 2010
DT Frank Reichardt 2 8 1 2010
CB Marco Arellano 4 7 1 2010

2007 Pre-Camp Cuts

Position/Player Current Est Future Est Exp Sgnd
QB Blake Gould 6 9 6 2007
T Sammy Snyder 3 9 2 2009
CB Brandon Hansen 5 8 3 2008
S Kirk Crawford 3 7 2 2009

QB Gould, our first ever 1(1) is gone. Injuries took their toll, and his asking price
is too high to keep him around. We wish him well, but don't think he'll ever live
up to the potential he showed coming out of college. CB Hansen was a decent backup,
but in his return roll he put the ball on the ground too often. Seven fumbles in
three years chase him off the practice field and our roster. T Snyder and S Crawford
were unlikely to get any time on the field this season, and won't be missed. WR
Williams will step into the designated returner roll, and DT Reichardt and CB Arellano
will add depth to their positions.

After camp we received six trade offers, including a offer of a second rounder
in exchange for all universe LB Hughes. After inquiring just what the other
GM was smoking when they came up with that one, we decline them all.
