What? Does he think he has a chance against the players of the FGT? Pa-Leese.

To: Ron Juckett
From: Gary Player
Subj: Pitiful sand play

After watching your players butcher St. Andrews and her bunkers, I, for a fee of $1,000, will give your players a sand game lesson, increasing skills by one point.

Gary

Alright Gary, I'll do this...

Any player that wants to pony up $1,000 for a one point improvement this week can. There, however, is a catch.

--Top 3 this week get that improvement for the year
--Cut makers get their money back
--Not make the cut, lose the $1,000 AND not improve your sand game for the rest of the year.

Any takers?

Questions:
Does the sand training take place before or after this weeks round?
Will there be other things we can purchase with winnings?
Is there a limit to how many things can be purchased or trained?

T.Whitt-CUT, OWES 1,000, NO SAND IMPROVEMENT
N Waeltz-CUT, OWES 1,000, NO SAND IMPROVEMENT

The subject has come up on how golfers use the sponsor's exemption.

Mar Mel earned his exemption by winning the first week.

Since the tour has exceeded 24 players, in order to have some reasonable round lengths, the field for non-majors has to be reduced to 24.

Currently, top 12 from previous week play current week. The other 12 spots are played for. (Hattricker's receive a special go this week, getting 3 spots)

The golfer who had the exemption asked if he could make his decision after he qualified. I said yes. He qualified on his score.

The question came up on should he have declared before qualifing, basically saying "yeah, I'll take it." or "no, I'll earn it." I think the objection is whether he has the right to bump a player out of the field.

My take is, yes, tour winners should have the ability to bump if they choose. It used to happen all the time in NASCAR. And yes, I know that provisionals are contreversial. It's possible for a good golfer to have a bad week, and at the moment tour winners get the same weekly exemption perk as the 12th place player.

I certainly, however, can understand the frustration of being bumped out of the field after "earning" my way in, and when I tee it up, I know the round counts.

Two suggestions, tour winners are exempt for the next 5 non-majors or if a golfer chooses to use his exemption, a 25th spot opens up. (Scoresheet has 25 lines.)

I think, if you have earned a "free spin", you should use it when you see fit. It's, your tour, on the other hand, and you should have a say on the rules.

I like your last point about a 25th spot opening up, but in the future, two players could request to use their exemption in this way, which would mean 26 spots, and so on......not a viable option.

I really don't mind either way, I was just asking. I prefer the current rule of trying to qualify, and if you fail, you can use the exemption...I guess I was thinking NASCAR as well. But either way works with me.
