The Thread Kill: HaHa... We Get It

When does the thread kill thread cease to be funny? I finally decided to take a look at it and its a whole lot of garbage posting for the sake of boosting post counts. Back in the day we had the Wigfecta, which eventually was seen as somebody trying to boost their total and a stigma was attached to it.

How long before you're considered a dork by posting in the thread kill thread?

Just curious.

The day after it started.

Agreed.

I'm begging SkyDog to make a post, then close it.

Can we make posts in that thread not count toward post totals? I bet it would die pretty quick then.

I know there are ways to make certain forums not count towards post totals and perhaps there is a mod that does the same for threads.

Just out of curiousity, who's going to decide what threads should count and what thread shouldn't? I've seen many threads just as dumb or dumber than the one to which you are referring. Only thing is, most of those people were trying to be serious while everyone in the tread killer thread is just trying to kill the thread.

I don't think I've posted at all in the thread-kill thread. Too damn long to read anyway.

Hasn't stopped anyone else. Not like there's a continuous theme on which to focus.

No matter what you try to do to it, the thread will never die.

I think people just like having a thread where they can say what ever they want without all the drama that comes with the diversity that we have here. Even heybrad respected this, knowingly or not, since he started a new thread to discuss the problems with the thread kill thread instead of bringing it up there. If the problem is with padding post counts then the question is who really gives a crap? Honesty. Do you really care if someone has more posts than you do? If not then it is a problem with what people are saying in that thread and that’s where the whole concept of the thread comes back into play. I know that it is easier said than done but just ignore it if it bothers you that badly. At least it's only one thread and not multiples ones driving you crazy.

I dunno... I remember back to when people have argued that various threads that I enjoyed should be shut down or relocated, saying they were redundant or a nuiscance to other posters. I felt like it wasn't any of their business - nobody is forced to read a particular thread, and unless the content genuinely violates the community sensibilities, I don't see a problem.

The "threadkill" thread doesn't do a thing for me, so I don't read it. Never have, never will. It doesn't really bother me, as long as it's marked so I know not to bother with it.

If this is really a concern about thread counts... we just need something better to worry about.

If I post once a day in the "Thread Kill" thread, that gives me a WHOPPING 30 extra posts a month (well, not THIS month, of course, but most months). Who gives a shit. And if they do, then don't read it. If someone cares about my post count, that's their problem. If I get to 2000 posts in the next month, is that going to make me an FOFC god... No, unless those posts are of an overall godlike quality.

There are threads I think are stupid, too, but I just ignore them. They don't bother me. Thread Kill is fun, and oftentimes funny, for immature old asshats (apparently such as myself).

Is'nt THIS thread a thinly veiled attempt at boosting post counts?
