TCY export to FOF import

Does this really work?

This was my first time ever from playing a season in TCY (with Rutgers) and then exporting the draft into FOF.

So I played the 2004 college season and I simmed through 2004 on FOF.

and I am now sitting at the 2005 draft.

I export/imported the draft - and here are some things I found to be weird.

The guys that were in contention for the Heisman - at least the top 3 I could remember, became absolute garbage in FOF (20-25 overall)

My Scarlet Knight seniors who were 50-60's in college are 10-20's in FOF. That is understandable I suppose since Rutgers is not a big time school. Although, I hate to see the recruit (I just got who ended up to be a 80 potential in TCY) - translate to 30-40 in FOF?

Then there was this guy.

www.hatethemets.com/Misc/FOF.bmp

The best QB in the draft and he went to Akron and didn't take one snap in TCY. How? Why? What the heck?

What is everybodies experience in this? I know you guys use this. Is it worth it?

Edit: Also, I have both programs using the most recent patches.

There's been a lot of discussion on this topic. I think QS and Skydog has posted the most interesting theories, which basically amounts to that FOF uses potential talent, not college production, as basis for how the player turns out... also considering the numbers of good players in TCY then only a few actually makes it, but that selection is a little too random as well...

The 1.3 patch was supposed to have improved this. It looks better, but is still happening. I've got a test TCY draft export / FOF draft import where lots of guys in the top 30 or so never played much in college (this is a test for my "Draft Analyzer should input all the Individual Stats tables that you can export to HTML with the TCYExport utility and show them in the player details window for your draft class" feature. You'll even be able to see college rank/record for the season in question...).

The "X" factor may be playing a role, and your scouts can be off too. There's a whole host of factors at play with discrepancies like this. Jim planned a certain amount of randomness like this to mirror the randomness of real life. Just because a guy is great in college doesn't mean he'll be great in the pros (David Klingler, Andre Ware, etc).

I don't mind having good guys tank in the draft. It's having guys that never played a down (or close to it) being first-round material that has everyone baffled (well, baffled is a strong word: I think we know why it happens [as you described], we just don't like it / agree with it).

Check carefully the early-round guys who never played a down. My experience in earlier versions (haven't examined it hard in 1.3) is that these guys are usually highly-talented guys who had this career in college:

Year 1: Redshirted, but failed a class
Year 2: Academically ineligible
Year 3: Left college because of academic troubles

So, there you have a guy who has high ratings, but never played a down in college. He then gets converted to a pretty solid prospect in FOF. Again, I have yet to do a close examination in 1.3, but my observation so far is that this cycle doesn't happen as often as it used to, but still occurs from time to time.

I'll check that. With 1.2a last season, we had a class where 3 punters came to the NFL from Florida. The one who started the year was rated the worst of the 3 by far. The other 2 were two of the top punters in the class. That's the worst case I've seen to date.

We're getting close to another off-season in my office league, and I'll make sure I've got all the TCY files saved off so I can check this out in more detail.
