Watching Fight Club in the post 9-11 world.
I just got Fight Club for my birthday (awesome movie), but does anyone else get a chill when watching the last scene of Fight Club. I mean, this terrorist group blows up a bunch of buildings, which fall eerily similar to the way to twin towers fell.
Think about the similarities. One head man who is crazy and who has a good bit of money. A revolt against the western ideas of wealth and possessions. People who would do whatever he says no matter what, even dying for the cause. Lots of "miniature" attacks, all leading up to the big one. The intentional targeting of financial centers in order to cripple the economy. Granted, the real terrorists also wanted death, something that is forbidden in the film (one of the deeper meanings of the film that is usually missed it seems. All this destruction, but not at the expense of life). It just seems almost too real, when at the time is way criticized for glorifying unrealistic violence. I still think its a great movie, just a little weird how things turned out. What are your thoughts? |
