Rome:Total War question
Is RTW a world domination game? I know that you can conquer maps, other countries but will it allow you to cross over to the americas and fight there as well?

Ummm....no. Think of the known world of Alexander the Great and the Roman Empire. That's about the size of the game map. There are about 100 provinces in the vanilla version and you can win by gaining 50 of them plus Rome (there is also a quick campaign where I believe you only need to gain 15 provinces). You can also go beyond 50 provinces with an easy cheat.

What is the status of the long-awaited patch to fix the battle AI?

They found another bug that deals with the combat calculations that is further delaying the patch.

I do too, and as Chief Rum expertly showed in his RTW dynasty, the battle AI was laughably easy - not only in the fighting but in the configuration of enemy combatants as well. |

I haven't done this myself, but I have heard mention of it several times in the forums. Basically save the the game just before taking the 50th settlement. Finish the game and wait for the end-graphics to start and then hit escape to close it instead of hitting the confirm button. Last edited by tategter : 01-20-2005 at 11:03 AM. |

Actually it's monster bug that nobody caught for months. Basically units with a missile attack continue to use their missile stats in hand-to-hand combat instead of switching to their secondary attack. That is why Roman troops are waay overpowered in the game (they use their pila stats in hand-to-hand instead of the gladius) and archer-type units do so well against light-calvary who charge them. Hopefully the patch will be out in early February. |
