Incredible poker comeback
Sorry for the long posts, but...
Don't like to toot my own horn, but I have to share this poker comeback that I made today. It was a $25+$2 sit and go on PokerStars. I made a stupid move and was left with $20 in chips. There were still 7 people remaining, so I figured I was toast. But I made the most incredible comeback I'd ever made to win the Sit and Go. I'd have to rank this ahead of Sir Fozzie's comeback against Radii in one of the FOFC tourneys. I guess it's a double edged sword, making a comeback like this. It's kinda like 4th quarter NFL comebacks. You had to do stuff to be behind, to be in a position to make a comeback... Anyways, for those interested, here is the hand history. Hand #24 is where I lose all my chips, except for those precious last 20. Code:

Nice. I don't know enough to say whether it's impressive or not, but I assume it is. Congratulations.
Two rookie questions: - what does it mean to "muck" a hand? - what are the side pots?

muck is to fold basically. Or, after the last betting round, if someone shows you a better hand(he has a pair of aces and you have a pair of tens for example), then you can throw your hand away without showing it. A side pot happens after a person is all in. If Ihave $10 and everyone else at the table has $100 each, I cannot win any more than $10 from any one person. If I bet $10(thus going all-in), and someone raises to $20, I can only win $10 from him, not the entire $20. $10 from every caller is set aside in a pot I can win, and all betting after that occurs in a "side pot" that the remaining players are competing for. I defy anyone to read that whole thing.

On Party when a hand is mucked at showdown it isn't displayed at the table, but is shown in the hand history. In most casinos (possibly all?) if a hand is folded at showdown you can ask the dealer to turn the cards over. It doesn't happen very often live. Continually asking to see the mucked showdown hands will get people very pissed at you at the table. Putting them in the hand history is Party's way of implementing this rule. |

I have never had the chance to play in a casino, but I believe that technically the player has the right to see the hand if he wants to in live play if he called to the river and a showdown took place, but it's somewhat bad form to actually make this request if the other player doesn't want to show. Online, at the table itself, the cards get mucked face down, you don't see them, but at most sites, if you go request the text hand history, it will show you what hand was mucked. Quote:
semantics I suppose. There is 3200 on the table, but when his opponent folds, Pokerstars treats the pot size as if Cartman pulled back 1000(to match the small blind) and then took the 2200... that makes little sense to me in that case and I think partypoker and other sites would report it as a 3200 pot. |

i sent a note off to PokerStars about this, and they basically said that they only count "at risk" money. So the blinds are considered bets, so basically the big blind is a raise of the small blind. Since the small blind folded, PokerStars takes that as him not calling my raise, so the raise is returned to me and not considered part of the winning pot. I noticed this also while playing. If someone has another player covered, and goes all in, the pot reflects what was in there, plus the all-in amount. If no one calls, then the pot is reduced to the previous bet. If someone calls the all-in, then the pot is changed to reflect the at-risk amounts. Example: I have 2000 chips and go all in where there are 50 and 100 blinds. When I go all-in, the pot is shown as 2150. If no one calls, then the winning pot is considered 250 (small blind, big blind, and my call of the big blind). The raise isn't considered part of the pot. If someone does call, and say they only have 500 in chips, then the pot is changed to 1150. It is kinda confusing at first, but it really only reflects the money at risk.
