I have an amazing 19 year old pitcher who's rated 6/7 for ERA/Hits. It says in his description he's ready to face big league hitting now. I'd love to get him in there and see what I can do but I don't want to ruin him if he's too young. Anyone got any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Send him out there. The worst that can happen is his arm turns into chewed up sausage.

I would just be patient with him and let him spend time in AAA until he's 21. Let him catch fire in the minors.

This is.... if your team's back isn't against the wall and your organization must win NOW.

But if you want overall success in the end, just wait.

19 years old is just too young for your pitcher to be in your rotation.

Just my thoughts.

I don't know if it's just coincidence but I've had a suspicious number of stars lose their ratings when left on a minor league team with coaches that have bad ratings. I might factor in who is a better pitching coach, the guy at AAA or your pitching coach on the pro team.

Well, I don't really need him now, and at this point the AAA guy and the Majors guy are both legendary.

I'd put him out there... you can retard a player's development if you leave them in AAA too long. If the scouting report says he's ready, you probably won't ruin him by putting him in the majors.

However, only put him in the majors if your are ready to play him. Playing time impacts development... so if you aren't quite ready to play him you may want to keep him in the minors where he can play regularly.

Agreed with Scott.

If the scouting report advises that he is ready to go, give him a spot in the rotation and let him take his lumps sooner rather than later.

I would keep him in The Busch Series for another year while giving him a few ML Starts before his rookie season to see how he does .
