My Traffic Court Case

I got written up by an asshole cop for "failure to obey". nothing out of the ordinary, really, except this cop really seemed meaner than most. i cant really describe it, i know most people think cops are assholes, but this guy was....more of one. whatever.

so i explain the case to my lawyer, who says "we arent fighting it. you dont have a chance." after much arguing, i finally got him to agree to represent me in traffic court.

so i get there, and sit down, and the lawyer goes in back to meet with the prosector. i dont know how long it should take, but this took 20-30 minutes.

then my lawyer came out, ducked his head into the court, which was hearing a case, yelled my name real loud, and stormed out. when i found him in the parking lot, he said "boy did you run into an asshole! he wants to be an asshole, i'll show him how big an asshole i can be!"

long story short, the case has been pushed back until may, where my lawyer says we will lose, and he will just keep appealing, because the cop is such a dick.

so i went from just being angry, to being represented by someone even angrier than me now! i cant wait.

i told him my only goal at this point is to embarrass the cop, since i probably wont get off. my lawyer assured me that is his goal now, too. awesome.

Awesome. He's already talking multiple appeals.

You just got suckered into an agreement in principle to a whole lot of billable hours.

This didn't happen to happen in West Deptford, did it?

A couple of years ago, I was pulled over and given a ticket because I didn't stop at a stop sign. Well, that's what he told me anyway.

"You ran a stop sign back there."
"I did?"
"Yes, coming off the highway you didn't come to a complete stop."

Ugh. IF I didn't stop, which is a pretty big if, I was doing at most 1.5mph as I looked for a good 3 or 4 seconds before pulling out onto the road.

I paid the ticket though since I don't know any lawyers and I knew I'd just end up losing and end up having to pay more. I guess he didn't have real crime to fight....(and yes, he was a total asshole the entire time. The whole situation was weird, but whatever.)

I hope it isn't in your home town because once this cop knows who you are he can make things pretty bad on you.

Yeah, I agree - next time I would obey. By the way, I think it's great that you're appealing this case as it will cost taxpayers a lot of money in order to fight each and every appeal.

Hurray!

ok, i dont want to get into specifics, but suffice to say, i would not be bothering with all this if i thought i was guilty. i feel 100% confident i did nothing wrong. if i didnt think this, i wouldnt bother.

the point of the thread was that my lawyer, after dealing with the cop, is now more fired up about the case than me.
