Anyone have advice on quitting a job?

.... that I haven't started yet? I was suppossed to start on Monday, but just landed another job that pays much better and has benefits (plus this one was temporary). So do I just tell them straight up or is there a good way to do this? The job I'm quitting had said I could do part time if I wanted, but I don't feel like working 60-70 hours a week. Soooooo any advice? Or will they think I'm a dick no matter how I say it?

Who cares what they think, their names will never be on your resume, so it does not matter. I would just tell them that you recieved another offer that pays more and has better bennifits. If they don't like that, oh well.

I would tell them that you received a better offer and then see if they would be willing to renegotiate.

My only recommendation would be to have your resignation broadcast during prime time from the Oval Office.

I'd tell them that you found something full-time, and that you need the full-time work and benefits. Most people understand that. You never know, if they really want you bad, they may give you even more than what the other company is. What ever you do, just don't burn the bridge.

If it's a temp job you are quitting, they will have heard it before...just tell them you received an offer for a FT position that is better paying and you can't turn it down. Apologize and thank them for the opportunity they gave you and then hang up the phone.

The same thing happened to me last year, and the woman hiring me wasn't upset. It shouldn't be a surprise to them, since most people get temp work while they're looking for FT jobs. Just be honest about why you're turning them down, and maybe explain that you didn't have enough advance notice to tell them sooner.

Ditto what everyone else said... nobody blames you for ditching a temp job in favor of a permanent position somewhere. Happens all the time. I've done that myself on a few occasions.

You better have the Rosenhaus brothers as your agents.

Tell them you're going to die in six months and you want to see the world before you die. Then hope you never see any of them again.

I just called, they were cool about it. Would have been fun to work for Fanball, especially since it's across the street from a Deja Vu strip club, but them are the breaks.

Dude, just walk right in to your boss' office and say "Mr. Cheney, I quit."
