Autobots... Rollout!
National guardman changed his name to a toy
Reported by Vic Gideon POSTED: Tuesday, March 18, 2003 11:02:13 PM UPDATED: Sunday, March 23, 2003 2:47:46 PM CUYAHOGA FALLS -- A member of Ohio's 5694th National Guard Unit in Mansfield legally changed his name to a Transformers toy. Optimus Prime is heading out to the Middle East with his guard unit on Wednesday to provide fire protection for airfields under combat. "On Sunday, we were awarded as the best firefighting unit in the Army National Guard in the entire country," said Prime. "That was a big moment for us." Prime took his name from the leader of the Autobots Transformers, which were popular toys and a children's cartoon in the 1980s. He legally changed his name on his 30th birthday and now it's on everything from his driver's licence, to his military ID, to his uniform. "They razzed me for three months to no end," said Prime. "They really dug into me about it." "I got a letter from a general at the Pentagon when the name change went through and he says it was great to have the employ of the commander of the Autobots in the National Guard." Prime says the toy actually filled a void in his life when it came out. "My dad passed away the year before and I didn't have anybody really around, so I really latched onto him when i was a kid," he said. --------------------------------------------------------- Pretty amusing story, though that little bit at the end does tug on a fellow geek's heart strings. |

That's great.
I'm wondering if I can fit "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" on a California driver's license... |

If anybody remembers the old wrestler the Ultimate Warrior, he changed his legal name to Ultimate Warrior a while back. Guess the roids went to his brain.

I remember the Ultimate Warrior! He was supposed to be the heir to Hulk Hogan... didn't work out so well, though.

Was that because they couldn't get Hogan to leave?

The Ultimate Warrior was excellent. One of my favorites back in the day, though big on the 'roids. He had some match with Randy Savage. A retirement match. It was a classic. Great stuff. Though I think the Ultimate Warrior won and then "retired" for a spell ('roids related or injury) and Savage kept on keeping on, Slim Jim commercials and all.

They couldn't get him to leave, and nobody could ever understand WTF the warrior was saying... still can't to this day. The man was out of breath by the time he reached the ring Also his 'retirement' wasn't due to a roid related problem or injury but over business disagreements, he thought he was worth more then they were willing to pay then a year or two later I believe he lost his son also in some kinda accident. |

I loved the Ultimate Warrior. He, Hogan, and Kerry Von Erich were my favorites...

Sadly, no. And to think, he might have had a fantastic career in cinema... I thought he deserved an Oscar for his work on "The Princess Bride" |

I read somewhere that Andre died because he never stopped growing.
The Ultimate Warrior came from around here, he was called the Dingo Warrior. But he looks like an out of shape wuss compared to that Steiner guy. I am surprised he hasnt dropped dead already with all that stuff he must be on.

Its true, I saw the biography of him, and he had a medical condition. Some say that is wasnt the disease that killed him, but he died of a broken heart, because he was in so much pain he couldnt wrestle anymore.
