Rumor: Rehnquist handing in resignation

I just read that there are reports Rehnquist is handing in his resignation right now. That would be odd, considering the President is not in the country, butthat is the rumor of the moment.

I think he's handing it to Ted Kennedy.

rofl..

Hasn't he been resigning for the past few years now? I'd figure he'd at least wait until the President comes back or until Bush makes an announcement for O'Connor.

But maybe not..

I think I meant "but that." Though, "butthat" is an interesting twist on "asshat."

Now, wouldn't THAT be some serious irony. "Hello Mr. Killer. I'm the Chief Justice of the highest court in the land. I'd like to hand *you* my resignation."

Dude - he is re-signing. Not resigning. Bush just picked up his option for another three years.

He'd be a welcome addition to the Rangers bullpen.

Democrats have to be cheering the old man if this is true. This is about the only way they preserve the status quo on the Court - trade one conservative appointment for a pro-choice appointment. If they are filled separately, Bush has more power.

Actually, he's still on the final year of his current deal and is asking to be traded to the 7th circuit if Bush doesn't extend him. I think it's all posturing, though, and he will be back in chambers by the next case.
