I know this is an off-the-wall question, but I need to know whether, to your knowledge, there have been any power outages in the general LA (and perhaps north of LA) area in the past couple of days, whether widespread or specific to any area, due to the weather or any other reason. Thanks in advance for the help.

Last Thursday we had a very localized power outage on our block in Santa Monica. The power was out for approximately 4 hours.

I should clarify...the outage in Santa Monica affected several large office buildings on the same block, not a residential area. Don't know if this makes a difference for your data gathering.

Are you going to give us a reason that you wanted to know? I'm tired of losing sleep over this.

There are various outages throughout the day in all of LA and Orange Counties. Only reason I know is because the cable TV service goes out when the commercial power goes out from Edison, so then we dispatch out cable techs to put up temp power on the cable equiptment to get to teh cable TV services back up.

Ksyrup is working on a theory that the members of Kings X are actually aliens who derive their life energy from our power grid. The band has been in Los Angeles recently recording a new album, and Ksyrup is checking to see if in fact the strange pattern of power outages occuring when Kings X plays live shows correlates to when they're in the studio as well.

We had two power outages late last week - the second one lasted from 6 pm or so until nearly 11 pm at night. I couldn't tell you what the reason was, because it only appeared to affect my block and the neighboring one.

It has been seriously hot in the SCV for the last week or two though, so I wouldn't put it past chalking up to the heat.
