Which is the best patch to run with?

Matter of taste really.

I guess most folks go with the Rome: Total Realism patch.

I personally have had more fun with the SPQR mod.

Think there's a Europa Barbarium or some such mod either out or being worked on that's supposed to be good. Not really sure as I haven't played in a while.

For some reason interest in RTW died out for me a lot quicker than it did with either Medieval or Shogun, not entirely sure why, but it definitely did. Am I alone in that? I reinstalled it the other day after a lengthy off-time with it and quit again shortly after.

As for the mods though, just check out the various forums for them, at TotalWarCenter I think? Maybe TotalWar.Org, or both. There's a couple good ones and it depends on what you're looking for.

Total Realism makes the game 1000 times more fun for me. I actually uninstalled it before that patch came out, and now the CD is back in the drive and the game basically is splitting time with EHM for me.
