Quick rules question about Wilfork's "INT" last night. Why was that called an INT? Was it officially ruled a pass, or was it just because it came from the QB and didn't hit the ground? I thought the replay was pretty clear that the ball came out before he started his throw, and although the ball didn't hit the ground, shouldn't the QB be considered no different than any other player on the field until he attempts to throw a pass? If a RB or WR got hit, even behind the LoS, and the ball popped up in the air and was recovered before it hit the ground, that would only be scored as a fumble, right?
The scoring on that confused me. I'm not sure if that is some quirky rule, or if the call on the field was simply incorrect, but no one challenged it because the result of the play wouldn't have changed.
