Sports Simulations
I am writing a paper on the history of sports sims.
I would like to include past sims, present popular sims, and expected future trends/games. Some topics I plan on covering... Past: Strat-O-Matic (the board game and the PC game) APBA Baseball Sierra FPS Football Earl Weaver Baseball? Older Console Games (ie RBI Baseball, Tecmo Super Bowl etc) Present CM4 Hattrick OOTP5 FOF TCY Present Console Games I am pretty familiar with the present games, but never really played sports sims (other than console games) until around 1996 or so (Most notably Tony LaRussa Baseball). Does anyone know of any good sites to provide info on these older games, or just have anything useful they want to share about the older games, or maybe know of some games that I am missing? Thanks. |

Sierra FPS Baseball, Diamond Mind, and Baseball Mogul were all groundbreaking games when they were released.

www.mobygames.com is a treasure trove of information about games. Not sure how helpful it'll be for your purposes but worth a look, I would think.

http://www.theunderdogs.org has quite a few older games and within some of the descriptions, etc you may find some info.

Good call including Earl Weaver... I played that one to death way back when. Let me know if you need any info on it.

I think, unless I've misunderstood how far back you want to go, you'll need to really start with the table-top genre since that's where the early action (and some of the present) was at.
Another place to post your question might be http://forums.delphiforums.com/tabletopsports/start There's a number of SportSim grognard types there that might have some very useful answers. Just a thought, Jon
