I think sticking manager/produce as a dual option pretty much made manager moot. With producers you can name the particular songs, albums and artists they produced, and point to a particular sound, and creative influence....especially if you're kind of 'roleplaying' your picks into an imaginary band. Comparatively, manager is about as sexy as a shoe, as even the legendary managers don't have anything you can point to that would have any creative effect on the band. "Thankfully, I've got Brian Eppstein here to make clumsy passes at my songwriter." Most of the top managers are famous for all the kinds of underhanded shit that would make you want them nowhere near your band.

But it was not their music he was interested in. It was their trousers.

I just spent two hours going through my music collection trying to find a song that I can say "yeah, I can hear Eddie, yeah, I can hear Janis, yeah, I can hear Jerry". It's a bitch.

I was doing the same, I decided on a cover that is simple and unexpected, but can work. A re-imagined version. I like that Baker and Page have a ton of versatility in what they can do as musicians.

I'm also confident enough that nobody is going to select what I have in mind for my final four picks.

I was think of how I will score the final results. Instead of the way I've been doing it for me "weekly polls", I think I will sort by category. The top picks in each category will get the highest scores and then down from there. For example, as alluded to earlier, the top 3 drummers will get 5, the rest 4-1. However, there are some categories that will not score high marks, no matter if you picked the best ones. Ohter instruments and label, for example, will not score as high as lead guitarist or singer. Just one pollster's opinion.

I'll be away from 11-1230 or so, but no later. Assuming Karl, Fox and Norv pick by then, of course.

Interesting. So how the band performs the song picked, how they'd be able to play the songs of the writer and how available they would be via label will have no effect on your voting?

For bass, I had my pick in mind early. After Lee and Entwistle there was only one other thought.

The female half of the husband-wife rhythm section of Talking Heads.

7.3 Tina Weymouth, Bass Guitarist, female

Tons of cred. In a group described as post-punk, white-funk, and new wave. Influenced by punk, R&B and funk. And one of the bands that frequently played the famous CBGB's with other punk pioneers like the Ramones. Listen to the driving, heartpumping bass on "Psycho Killer".

And when the band went on hiatus, she and her husband formed the rhythmic group The Tom Tom Club making grooving hits like "Genius of Love", which became one of the most sampled tracks ever in hiphop and pop.

So, would you say there is a female bass player craze going on at the moment?

Norv's pick is odd but can't argue with his pick:

7.4 Cover Song, "I Love You" - Barney, Pedophile Song category

I'd been struggling with what to use for other and country. Fact is, Marsalis was pretty much THE guy for Jazz in the 80s. Nobody else touched him.

heh well yeah. I knew I had to pull that trigger before it got to the group at the other end again. I was almost kicking myself for not choosing weymouth before the song thinking you guys might choose that instead.

Well, the latter is in his class for sure.

These last four picks is where I might struggle with voters. We'll see.

I'm so utterly torn. I have a pic that I think is great and probably gets me more love, but then I have to mess with the way I was gonna pick and thus mess with how I'm imagining my band. I'm probably not gonna win anyway so should I just go with what I want? So many meaningless decisions.
