Players love making these celebration videos when their suspensions end. But it always seems a little weird to me when you remember why they were suspended in the first place (here, for beating the crap out of a dude in Vegas).

What the hell has happened to the Bengals? Both the offense and defense look like they've taken huge steps back.

This game is so bad Chris Fowler felt compelled to call a TD pass on a play that was clearly blown dead for a TO. Like a reverse 2022 Al Michaels call.

Get off my lawn but the Rams punter having to wear #42 so a bunch of low talent defensive backs can wear single digits is dumb. Also #0 is also ridiculous.

Useless but interesting (to me) fact that I read today. Four of the seven Bears head coaches post Ditka won a AP/UPI coach of the Year award during their time with the Bears.

Dave Wannstedt-1994 (UPI NFC award)
Dick Jauron-2001
Lovie Smith- 2005
Matt Nagy- 2018

That ties them with the head coaches of the New England Patriots have also won four COY awards.

Bill Parcells-1994 (UPI AFC award)
Bill Belichick-2003, 2007, 2010

It's been a whole half-a-quarter, but that Lions defense is manhandling the Packers offense, in Lambeau.

Wanny was the premier assistant coach in football when the bears hired him. He was able to sell ownership on a rebuild to get younger and more athletic. They surprised in year 2 and with him being the young, hot assistant at the time there was a lot of hype with that 9-7 year and a playoff berth, but he never got over the hump because Wanny was Wanny.

Jauron had the flukiest year I've ever seen in 2001. Everything that could have gone right, went right and they won 13 games. A-Train ran for 1200, Marty Booker came out of nowhere at receiver, and Urlacher and Mike Brown had their breakout years. Jauron didn't have another winning season as a head coach.

Lovie was arguably the best coach the Bears have ever head. I'd put him over Ditka, but it was time to move on. Offenses were opening up and his defense was never the same. He also never managed to put a decent offense on the field and it felt like he was trying a new OC every year.

Nagy was Nagy. Seemed like a decent guy and the players liked him. He just wasn't a good coach and there always seemed to be a disconnect between him and Pace (the GM).

Yeah the Lions are giving a masterclass on crushing the fanbase right now. They're letting the media give them tons of hype right now and sooner or later they're just going to start being their usual selves.

Who's going to beat them in their division? There's always been an obvious answer to that question, tell me who it is now? They don't have to win 10 games, they just have to win this division.

The same team it is every season Pinky. The team that will beat the Detroit Lions is the Detroit Lions.

They're cursed. Any long time Lion's fan knows this.

Agreed. We can host our first playoff game since the early 90’s!

I'll be 50 in a few months and have been a Lions fan my whole life. The first Super Bowl I can recall watching was the 1980 Super Bowl between the Rams and Steelers, so that's, at least, 43 years of Lions fandom.

They may be cursed, but I can't take this mindset. It's just not fun. I was nervous as hell during that 3rd quarter, but I cracked a 16 oz PBR right after the Packers pulled within 10 and it settled both me and the Lions right down.

Actually good Lions teams are so few and far between, you've gotta embrace and enjoy the ride when they actually come around!

I like this idea that your drinking effects the team. Have you thought that maybe you just need to drink way more than you have been?

The Lions are a good team getting better. Lions fans should be cautiously optimistic about winning their division. My main concern would be thinking there's a good chance of going deep in the playoffs. This is still a team without a lot of playoff experience. This is still a building year from that perspective.

I think by this point most Lions fans' standards for 'success' is simply getting into the playoffs & anythnig beyond that is gravy.

Detroit will almost certainly win the division but I think Goff kind of limits their upside still. He's the type of QB that can get you to a Super Bowl with a great defense behind him but that's going to be hard to build while he is under contract.

Maybe he can get them there before they have to extend his current contract. Have to think with the current market that next contract will be 40 million plus per year.

If you can only win a Super Bowl if you have Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes, then why bother? Those guys aren't growing on trees. Jared Goff took one team there, and it wasn't just him that caused that loss. If the Lions are being "held down" it is not by Goff.

The Chandler Jones story gets murkier:

Raiders issue a call for support and prayers for him while stating this is now a legal matter.

I mean, there are three (3) current Super Bowl winning starting quarterbacks. Two are 34+ years old. 4 more have made it and lost. It ain't easy.

In the past 10 years, the following QBs have started for a team that played in the conference finals:

Carson Palmer
Andrew Luck
Matt Ryan
Josh Allen
Cam Newton
Joe Burrow
Peyton Manning (Denver)
Aaron Rodgers
Ryan Tannehill
Blake Bortles
Patrick Mahomes
Jared Goff
Matthew Stafford
Case Keenum
Tom Brady
Drew Brees
Nick Foles
Jalen Hurts
Ben Roethlisburger
Jimmy Garoppalo
Russell Wilson

Minus maybe Bortles, every QB on that list was both competent and not prone to being actively detrimental to their team's chances (like, Kirk Cousins is generally competent and then does something to blow up your chances on a predictable basis).

So, you definitely don't need a Brady/Mahomes/Rodgers, but if you do it's kind of a cheat code that a) gives you cushion in-game when stuff goes against you and b) allows you to focus team-building elsewhere.

As you go through the list, the extent to which each QB allows you to do a) and/or b) varies, but it's always there to some extent.

Definitely true. The Bengals run two years ago was the most fun I think I've ever had as a fan.

Bengals super bowls runs are one of the biggest reasons I quit rooting for "a team" and even liking watching sports that much. First Anderson year...then Boomer and Collinsworth....they just live to disappoint
