Former Student Wants to Wed Letourneau

LOS ANGELES - A man who had two children with his former sixth-grade teacher said the two have been meeting daily since her release from prison last month and would like to marry.

Mary Kay Letourneau, 42, served 7 1/2 years in prison for child rape for her relationship with Vili Fualaau, who was 12 when their relationship began at a Seattle-area school.

"We still have the same feelings for each other, times forever," Fualaau, now 21, said in an interview to air Wednesday on "The Larry Elder Show," a newly syndicated television show.

A judge last month granted Fualaau's request to lift an order barring Letourneau from contacting him. He said he's been "seeing her every day" since her release, Fualaau said.

The couple's daughters, ages 7 and 6, are in the custody of Fualaau's mother. Fualaau said he will seek custody of them at some point.

He said the two would have to become financially stable and work out the family court issues.

"And then I guess it would be safe to say, well, safe to get married," he said.

Fualaau, who did not finish high school, said he has been living with a friend, and has been "in and out of jobs."

Letourneau was a 34-year-old elementary school teacher in suburban Des Moines, Wash., and an unhappily married mother of four in 1996, when she began having sex with Fualaau.

When Letourneau was arrested in 1997, she was already pregnant with Fualaau's daughter. Though Letourneau professed her love for the boy, a judge sentenced her to six months in jail for second-degree child rape, and ordered her to stay away from him.

A month after Letourneau was released, she was caught having sex with Fualaau in her car. She gave birth to Fualaau's second daughter behind bars.

And my teachers were born far too early. I can remember one attractive teacher from K-12. I think hot women teaching in the 80s and early 90s kind of reached a nadir and it's bounced back recently with many more attractive women going into it. Hopefully the same thing will happen with flight attendants some day.

The ABC News newsmagazine "Primetime Live" re-launches on Thursday, September 16 with a new team of co-anchors, a new executive producer and a return to the program's roots in important, hard-hitting investigative reporting. This season Diane Sawyer is being joined by new "Primetime" anchors Chris Cuomo, Cynthia McFadden and John Quiqones. In the season's first edition, "Primetime Live" takes a hard look at the financial world of Donald Trump, and also explores why we seem to be hearing about more and more incidents of female teachers having affairs their male students. "Primetime Live" premieres THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. Donald Trump has emerged as America's business icon, with his gleaming financial empire and an unparalleled acumen for self-promotion, reports Chris Cuomo. The boastful baron's name is on everything from skyscrapers to board games, and now he is the centerpiece of a hit reality show that portrays him as a sort of Jedi financial master to his young apprentices. But some say there's more to Trump's financial world than meets the eye. Critics claim that, if you look beyond the bravado, "The Donald's" fortune is not what it appears-they question whether the self-professed billionaire is as wealthy as he purports to be. And "Primetime" learns that he doesn't own a controlling stake in some of his high-profile projects. "Primetime" investigates Trump's finances and talks with critics, his ex-wife, Marla Maples, and the man himself-in an off-camera interview-in an effort to discover the real deal about Trump.

Plus: Cynthia McFadden reports on a troubling problem that seems to be making headlines more than ever before-female teachers sleeping with their male students. "Primetime Live" turned up more than fifty cases in the last two-and-a-half years in which teachers have been accused of having illicit relationships with their students. McFadden explores three of these cases. In an exclusive interview, she speaks with Owen LaFave, the husband of Debra LaFave, who sparked international headlines this summer when she was charged with having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student. '"Primetime" also interviews a 13-year-old boy from Texas whose affair with his 27-year-old teacher resulted in a baby daughter. He discusses conducting a secret six-month affair and how he feels about his actions now. And a 35-year-old teacher from Canada named Heather Ingram explains why she crossed the line with her 17-year-old student, and whether it was worth the high price she has paid.

This season, "Primetime Live" will take a new approach to exploring a range of issues-from family relations and sexuality to poverty in America-in a unique way. The program has assembled a new investigative team of award-winning producers who have embarked on a number of short and long-term investigations. "We're going to investigate topics that nobody else is daring to in primetime," said new executive producer Shelley Ross. "We're not afraid to take on some very sacred cows along the way." "Primetime" will also continue to be the place to hear first from the day's top newsmakers. Ross added that broadcasting live will allow the program to better respond to breaking news. "Our viewers will never miss a relevant breaking news story," said Ross.

"We have an amazing team of correspondents and producers who have already brought new energy and fresh ideas you won't see anywhere else," said Ross. "The only thing off limits this season is the same old, same old."

Each edition of "Primetime Live" will conclude with "That Was The Week That Was," featuring music and lyrics that take a satirical look at current events, from politics to pop culture. The "TW3" segment is an homage to the classic 1960s BBC program of the same name, hosted by Sir David Frost. "We've looked back to the past and found a ground-breaking concept that will inspire what Ithink will become a signature of the new 'Primetime,'" says Ross.

"Primetime Live" will also feature new graphics, a new open and new theme music by Academy Award-winning composer Bill Conte that will incorporate the original, bold "Primetime" theme with a more modern musical statement.

Diane Sawyer, Chris Cuomo, Cynthia McFadden and John Quiqones are the anchors of "Primetime Live." Shelley Ross is the executive producer.

Thanks Franklinnoble for bumping this thread yet again. I got the October issue of FHM yesterday and it had the winner of the "Hot Teacher" contest. I was going to post pics or a link, but a warning came up that it was against DoD ethics to view the FHM webpage.

Oh, and no pics pls k thx.

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (AP) -- An 11-year-old boy was charged Wednesday with sexually assaulting a 76-year-old neighborhood woman in her home as three of his friends stood watch.

Police said that for a week before the attack, the boys had been "terrorizing" the woman in her house, repeatedly breaking in and taking cash and other items.

The woman, who lived alone, told police she was taking a sponge bath in the kitchen Friday when the 11-year-old walked in, demanded money and then ordered her to take off her clothes and go into the bedroom, according to court papers.

The boy's brother, a 13-year-old who was among the three other boys also charged, said he heard the woman say: "I'm just an old, half-crippled lady, I'm not going."

The woman said the 11-year-old put on a condom and tried to rape her, followed by a second boy.

The 11-year-old was charged in juvenile court with sexual assault and being a party to burglary and criminal trespassing. The other boys -- ages 11, 12 and 13 -- were charged with being a party to burglary and criminal trespassing.

In court Wednesday, the 11-year-old facing the less serious charges called out, "Hi, Mom" after spotting his adoptive mother.

"I'm very hurt because my son was raised as a good boy," she said outside court. She complained that police abused the boys to obtain confessions.

Ex-nun sent to jail for molesting child 35 years ago
By JON FRANK,
The Virginian-Pilot
© September 23, 2004
Last updated: 10:44 PM

Eileen M. Rhoads, 65, was described Wednesday as one who preyed on children.

Background: Former nun convicted of two felony sex crimes
VIRGINIA BEACH — Eileen M. Rhoads, a 65-year-old former nun, was described in court Wednesday as a demon, a sexual deviant who preyed on elementary school children more than 30 years ago.

“Judge, you have before you the face of evil,” testified one victim, now a 45-year-old man, who was molested by Rhoads in 1969 and 1970. “And I ask for the most severe sentence that you could impose.”

Moments later, Circuit Judge Edward W. Hanson Jr. sentenced Rhoads to six months is jail for two felony sexual crimes. She pleaded no-contest to the charges in July.

Hanson also gave Rhoads a 10-year suspended prison sentence. Rhoads will not serve any prison time if she remains on good behavior for 10 years after her release from jail.

Rhoads was handcuffed and taken into custody immediately. Her victim and prosecutors called her a danger to the community who might molest again.

Rhoads apologized before being led away.

“I am very, so very, sorry,” Rhoads said, turning to look for her victim . “I apologize with all my heart for any pain I may have caused you. Forgive me and I pray for you that after this is over, I hope you can find some peace of mind.”

Rhoads was a fifth -grade teacher during the 1969-70 school year at St. Gregory the Great Catholic School on Virginia Beach Boulevard. Her victim was a student in her class.

He testified Wednesday that she forced him to participate in sexual activity in a closet, during and after school, for the entire school year. At least two other boys also were involved, he said. Rhoads sometimes molested each one serially on the same day, he testified.

He said the experience haunted him as he matured, making him distrust authority figures, affecting his ability to form lasting relationships, ruining his faith in religion.

The Catholic Church, he testified, “has been infiltrated by a criminal element. The criminal element’s M.O. is pedophilia. That is what they do, and when they come to the church, that is where they hide.”

Commonwealth’s Attorney Harvey L. Bryant III wanted a longer prison sentence for Rhoads, saying her crime was not a one-time act. Other victims were prepared to testify, if necessary, he said.

After the hearing, the victim’s attorney, James C. Lewis , thanked the prosecution for bringing Rhoads to justice.

“Eileen Rhoads is a predator and the victim felt that a longer prison sentence would have been appropriate punishment,” he said. “However, he is thankful to the court and to Mr. Bryant for their hard work.”

After leaving Virginia in the early 1970s, Rhoads went to Pennsylvania, where she continued to teach. Other allegations of sexual abuse have arisen there.

One alleged Pennsylvania victim attended Wednesday’s hearing and expressed dissatisfaction with the sentence. “It seems ridiculous,” said the woman, who met Rhoads when she was 11.

She said Rhoads’ sentence hurt her because the statute of limitations in Pennsylvania has expired, leaving no criminal case there. “If there is going to be any justice, this is it,” the woman said.

Rhoads’ attorney, William H. “Happy” O’Brien, argued that Rhoads should not go to jail. State guidelines call for no jail time if the defendants has no prior criminal record.

O’Brien said that Rhoads has lived an “upstanding, civically-minded life” most of her life and has had no other brushes with the law.

The convictions, he said, have humiliated her and smeared her reputation.

“She has been punished enough,” O’Brien said. Civil litigation remains. Rhoads is being sued by the Virginia Beach victim and an alleged Pennsylvania victim. Both lawsuits were filed in Norfolk Circuit Court . One is scheduled for trial in April .

Other defendants in the lawsuits are the Diocese of Richmond and the Pennsylvania religious order to which Rhoads belonged. Reach Jon Frank at 222-5122 or at [email protected]

I don't know whether to gag or laugh. Maybe the pic of the old lady wasn't needed. In my mind I had a Catholic Schoolteacher with a miniskirt and stockings "abusing" young boys serially.

Oh, and the "face of evil" quote beside that pic is pretty funny as well. Thanks for resurrecting this thread.

Well, the first statement is relevant, I think. Typically, you'd ask for sentencing leniency is it's your only brush with the law. Martha Stewart, for example, got the sentence she did because it was a first offense and she could demonstrate all of the good things she had done in her life.

The second statement seems to be a poor way of saying that she's suffered enough, and shouldn't be imprisoned. The way it came out, though, is ridiculous.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A judge set bond at $250,000 on Monday for a Stratford woman accused of having a sexual relationship with an 8-year-old boy.

Tammy Imre, 29, of Stratford is accused of first-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

Imre was shackled for the brief court appearance, and did not say anything.

The divorced mother of a 7-year-old girl, is accused of assaulting her daughter's playmate.

An investigation began in September, after the boy's mother discovered a letter Imre had written her son, police said.

In the letter, police said Imre told the boy that she doesn't "want anyone but you. Now tomorrow it's supposed to rain, you can come over we can (you know what)."

When confronted, police said Imre acknowledged to having sexual relations with the boy. Imre told investigators she considers the 8-year-old youngster her boyfriend and that she plans to marry him someday, police said.

If convicted, Imre could serve more than 20 years in prison.

Risk of injury to a minor?

No, I probably don't want to know.

This just in...

After informing my dad of this news he followed with, "Yes, I can believe it. Grant (friend of dad's and Moorhead's Police Chief) just recently showed me a police report that involved a wife calling in and telling the police that her husband was having sex with their dog."

Elvis has left the buidling.

Student sex teacher may avoid jail
By Gosia Kaszubska

A FEMALE teacher who had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy might not be jailed after a judge said the student's consent could be a mitigating factor in her sentence.

The Victorian County Court heard the teenager did not see himself as a victim in his relationship with Karen Louise Ellis, a former physical education teacher.

Ellis, 37, yesterday pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual penetration with a child under 16.

The married mother of three repeatedly had sex with the boy at her North Eltham home, in Melbourne's north, while her husband was away for work in October and November last year.

During the pre-sentence hearing, judge John Smallwood said a jail term was "inevitable", but the unusual circumstances of the case meant it could be wholly suspended.

While Ellis's lawyer, Brian Bourke, said imprisoning his client would be "out of proportion", prosecutor Kieran Gilligan said the law recognised the vulnerability of children, and Ellis should be jailed for her "gross breach of trust".

"Consent is not a defence to these counts," Mr Gilligan said.

Judge Smallwood responded: "Consent is not a defence to guilt, but it has to be a mitigating factor, doesn't it?"

Mr Gilligan replied: "If there wasn't consent, it would be a rape charge, it wouldn't be a sexual penetration charge."

The court heard that after her arrest, Ellis told police she did not stop to think about the boy's age but knew she was in trouble when she learned he was turning 16.

"What can I say, it's a stupid teacher taking advantage," she said. "He's only young, I should have known better. He was just going on his feelings, really, but it was pretty strong feelings."

The court heard Ellis was remorseful and embarrassed about the relationship, although the pair had kept in contact since it ended.

The boy, who failed Year 10 at school and is now estranged from his family, told police the relationship had "no effect" on him, the court heard.

In September, the teenager, then aged 16, told the Seven Network's Today Tonight program he would probably "have a laugh" in future about the affair. "I'd say if it doesn't affect me now, I don't see how it's going to affect me in years to come," he said.

Ellis's husband, Stephen, told the court yesterday he moved out of home for several weeks in May, but had returned and was trying to "make a go of it".

"I just hope it can all be finished and we can go back to a normal life," he said.

Judge Smallwood said that in sentencing, he would take into account Ellis's remorse and the boy's assertions he had suffered no damage.

"My view would be that a wholly suspended sentence would be at the lower end of the range but not outside the range," he said. "It's not my view she's a danger to the public."

The maximum penalty for the charge of sexual penetration with a child under 16 is 15 years' jail.
