Disappointing to see Northwest not win @ Longwood. Stuff like that matter for a team with #42 RPI that may have to get an at-large bid.

Jan. 27-Feb. 2, 2020
Game of the Week Southeast @ Northwest - Feb. 1 -- 2 of the 4 teams atop the conference square off. Both teams should be postseason bound, but this will be a good chance to gain some ground in the conference race and make that postseason bid a little easier. Game Scores Jan. 28, 2020 Bishop Carroll 104, at Valparaiso 101 (overtime) Jan. 30, 2020 at Wichita Southeast 82, Wichita East 49 #20 Wichita North 105, at Wichita Heights 85 Wichita Northwest 60, at Detroit 49 Feb. 1, 2020 at Kapaun Mt. Carmel 89, Valparaiso 88 (overtime) at Wichita Northwest 65, Wichita Southeast 50 Detroit 61, at #20 Wichita North 38 Wichita East 80, at Bishop Carroll 71 Game of the Week Recap Southeast @ Northwest -- The Grizzlies dominated this game, holding Southeast to 31.1% shooting. Reed Robeson had 20 points, 9 rebounds, and Valery Deguermaupret had 27 to lead Northwest to a 65-50 win. Here are the GWAL standings: Code:
A bad week for Valpo who lost 2 games. A good week for Northwest, who won both their games. North got upset by Detroit. In all reality, it is still a 4team race, but don't discredit East, Carroll, or Kapaun, who could make a run. |

UNC Asheville (Charlie Shocker) -- 6-15, 4-7 Big South. Charlies team had a good week, beating Charleston Southern 76-68 and then beating Coastal Carolina 86-68.
Michigan State (Deacon Palmer) -- 13-6, 6-2 Big Ten. 1 game this week for the Spartans, but they hammered Indiana 88-57. Georgia State (Charlie Woods) -- 8-12, 5-5 CAA. They lost 76-60 to VCU, then beat Delaware 60-53. Memphis (Chris Prewitt) -- 19-2, 5-1 C-USA. It was a very consistent week for the Tigers, as they beat both Marshall and Tulsa by the same score, 79-54. Bet you won't see that happen too often! Wichita South (Kuji Chagulia) -- 6-16, 3-8 Horizon. The losing streak continues for the Titans as they lost 2 more this week. They lost 72-60 to Cleveland State and then 64-45 to Illinois-Chicago. Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 10-11, 5-2 WAC. 1 game this week for Hawaii, as they beat Fresno State 76-71. Here are the top 25 polls for the week beginning Feb. 3, 2020 Code:

Kuji turned over Wichita South to me? I guess it is time to hold a press conference indicating that I'm not interested in other job openings at this time |

How do we lose by 23 at home to the next to last place team in the conference?
Think it's time to get a few tough practices in before our next game. |

lol, wow, thanks for the catch hoopsguy. Can't believe I made a blunder like that. I guess you have transformed into Kuji #2. I'll get that edited.
rjolley, I wouldn't take that loss too hard. Detroit has a tremendous coach who for whatever reason just hasn't found his niche in the GWAL. Their RPI of 86 proves they can be a decent team. |

Code:
About what I expected, with 3 teams having a chance to get into the NCAA tournament. The only other FOFC team that is projected in the big dance is Chris Prewitt's Memphis Tigers. No surprise there. |

Game of the Week Northwest @ Valparaiso - Feb. 8 -- Right now Northwest is leading the GWAL, but Valpo is 2 games behind. This would be a great chance for Valpo to get back within a game.. or it could be a great chance for NW to possibly knock Valpo out of the GWAL hunt. Other Key Game North @ Arkansas - Feb. 3 -- Its not often a non-conference game during conference play gets a mention in this dynasty report, but this will be a tough challenge for the Redskins. Arkansas is slowly rebuilding and is coming off a big win over a top 15 Florida team. The Redskins will have to be at their best. Game Scores Feb. 3, 2020 at Arkansas 59, #24 Wichita North 55 (non-conference) Feb. 4, 2020 Kapaun Mt. Carmel 89, at Wichita Northwest 72 at Wichita East 86, Wichita Heights 67 Feb. 5, 2020 Wichita Southeast 78, at North Carolina Central 52 Feb. 6, 2020 Detroit 73, at Valparaiso 67 at Bishop Carroll 75, #24 Wichita North 65 Feb. 8, 2020 at Wichita Southeast 91, Bishop Carroll 59 Wichita Northwest 73, at Valparaiso 62 Kapaun Mt. Carmel 73, at Wichita Heights 63 at Detroit 74, Wichita East 48 Game of the Week Recap Northwest @ Valparaiso -- This game lost some steam with both teams losing earlier in the week, and it was a 3 point game at halftime. Reed Robeson led the way for Northwest in the second half, as he ended up with 27 points and 12 rebounds, and the Grizzlies pulled away for a 73-62 win. Key Game Recap North @ Arkansas -- The Redskins just didn't show up to play tonight, shooting just 30.5% from the field, while letting the Razorbacks shoot almost 50%. The thing that kept the Redskins in the game was the fact they forced 24 turnovers while only committing 7. Kester Bonnin led the way for North with 23 points, and they had a chance to win late, but fell 59-55. Here are the wild and wacky standings through Feb. 9th: Code:
Northwest had a chance to really create some distance, but losing to Kapaun early in the week didn't help. It's still a tight rice though, with 7 of the 8 remaining teams only 3 games behind or less. Anything, and I do mean anything can happen. What we know for sure is that Heights is all but eliminated from the GWAL race and postseason competition. |

UNC Asheville (Charlie Shocker) -- 7-16, 4-8 Big South. Asheville won a non-conference game vs. Eastern Illinois 89-80 and then fell to conference foe Gardner-Webb 69-65.
Michigan State (Deacon Palmer) -- 15-6, 8-2 Big Ten. The Spartans had a good week, beating Ohio State 75-70 then beating Minnesota 85-70. Georgia State (Charlie Woods) -- 8-14, 5-7 CAA. Woods has his team a long pace away from last year, as they are struggling again. This week his team had 2 absoultely heartbreaking losses, first to William and Mary 80-77 in overtime, then to Old Dominion 49-48. Memphis (Chris Prewitt) -- 21-2, 7-1 C-USA. The Tigers are rolling, this week beating Southern Miss 77-64 and SMU 89-61, avenging their only conference loss so far. Wichita South (Kuji Chagulia) -- 7-17, 4-9 Horizon. The Titans started the week by losing 76-61 to Loyola-IL, then broke a 7 game losing streak by beating Wichita West 57-48. A solid win considering Wichita West was 17-7 coming into that game. Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 11-12, 6-3 WAC. Hawaii got a buzzer beater to beat Boise State 79-77, then lost to conference leader Gonzaga 99-82. I think I'm ready to see Memphis get a couple of first place votes
Also, happy to see Illinois (destination job for Chris Prewitt) having a good season and presumably leading the Big Ten in what appears to be a down season for that conference. I wonder if Kapuan worked themselves back into the tourney with their 2-0 week. An RPI of 29 seems like it would be hard to ignore. |

Game of the Week North @ Northwest - Feb. 15 -- There isn't a dominant team in the GWAL this year, and both of these teams are down. The Redskins still appear to be the class of the conference, and have had Northwests number lately. But Northwest is leading the conference, and this is as good a year as any for the Grizzlies to get a win over North. Key Game Southeast @ Detroit - Feb. 15 -- Southeast is right behind Northwest in the standings, but is facing a dangerous Detroit team that has beaten North and Valparaiso in back to back weeks. They definitely have the potential to beat Southeast as well. Game Scores Feb. 10, 2020 Wichita East 74, at North Carolina Central 69 (non-conference) Feb. 11, 2020 Bishop Carroll 60, at Oklahoma State 50 (non-conference) Feb. 13, 2020 at Kapaun Mt. Carmel 77, Detroit 68 Wichita Southeast 64, at Wichita North 50 Wichita Northwest 95, at Wichita Heights 84 Valparaiso 84, at Wichita East 51 at Bishop Carroll 62, SIU Edwardsville 59 (non-conference) Feb. 15, 2020 at Kapaun Mt. Carmel 85, Bishop Carroll 73 Wichita North 75, at Wichita Northwest 70 at Valparaiso 77, Wichita Heights 73 Wichita Southeast 69, at Detroit 60 Game of the Week Recap North @ Northwest -- Well North lost to Southeast earlier in the week, so they were basically playing spoiler this game. It was a classic. Northwest led by 2 at halftime, but had 14 second half turnovers, 22 for the game. North was led by David Chasse with 18 points while Vico Pezzuti (remember him?) had 6 points, 7 boards, and 4 assists, and the Redskins play spoiler, beating Northwest 75-70. Key Game Recap Southeast @ Detroit -- Detroit was also trying to play spoiler, but the Buffaloes would have none of it. They shot .491 from the field, and beat Detroit 69-60. Tuan Dillion had a double double for Southeast: 14 points, 15rebounds. Here are the standings as we are just about to the end of another regular season: Code:
I can't remember the last time this late in the season we had such a close race with so many teams involved. How about Southeast and Kapaun, who have to be the surprises. And don't cound out North or Valpo quite yet. It would take a lot of luck for them to sneak in, with most teams having only 3 or 4 conference games remaining, but it could happen. |

UNC Asheville (Charlie Shocker) -- 9-16, 6-8 Big South. Charlie tied his win total from last year with 2 wins this week, beating Liberty 68-63 and then beating VMI 57-56.
Michigan State (Deacon Palmer) -- 15-8, 8-4 Big Ten. Not a good week for the Spartans who took a step back. They were hammered 100-70 by #10 Illinois, then lost a tough one to Northwestern 75-68. Georgia State (Charlie Woods) -- 10-14, 7-7 CAA. 2 important wins this week, as they beat Hofstra 86-77, then beat Drexel 82-76, getting back to .500 in the CAA. Memphis (Chris Prewitt) -- 23-2, 9-1 C-USA. The Tigers had a big 94-49 win against UAB, then beat Central Florida in a much tougher game, 90-84. Wichita South (Kuji Chagulia) -- 7-19, 4-11 Horizon. Kuji got that dreaded "vote of confidence" at the beginning of the week, then his Titans went out and laid 2 more eggs: 65-47 against Butler, and 74-52 against Milwaukee. Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 12-13, 7-4 WAC. A split this week for Hawaii, as they lost to New Mexico State 88-79, then came back to beat Louisiana Tech 65-49. Here are the polls for the upcoming week: Code:
A tad surprised not to see Michigan State at least receiving votes. I thought for sure they'd be getting something. But I guess a 2 week loss when you weren't receiving votes to begin with... until next time folks. |

Game of the Week Kapaun at North - Feb. 18 -- North has been the class of the GWAL for the past few seasons, but find themselves in 4th place this year. Kapaun is a surprise team, they are in 3rd. Both of these teams still have a chance to win the GWAL. The winner stays in contention, the loser is most likely eliminated. Key Games Valparaiso at Southeast - Feb. 20 -- Southeast is the surprising leader of the GWAL, but Valpo has the potential to knock them off. Valpo sits in 5th place in the GWAL, and surprisingly still has a chance to win the conference regular season title, but must beat Southeast to stay in contention. Kapaun at Southeast - Feb. 22 -- Both teams have big games earlier in the week, and depending on the results, this could be a game to decide the GWAL regular season title, or it could just be a game for seeding as far as the GWAL tournament goes. Game Scores Feb. 18, 2020 at Wichita North 93, Kapaun Mt. Carmel 88 (OT) Detroit 80, at Longwood 48 (non-conference) Feb. 20, 2020 Valparaiso 83, at Wichita Southeast 80 Wichita East 70, at Wichita Northwest 68 at Bishop Carroll 72, Wichita Heights 61 Feb. 22, 2020 at Wichita Southeast 90, Kapaun Mt. Carmel 83 at Wichita Heights 72, Detroit 56 Wichita North 76, at Wichita East 73 at Bishop Carroll 74, Wichita Northwest 68 Game of the Week Recap Kapaun @ North -- 40 minutes wasn't enough to decide this game, as we went into overtime. Cyril Tyson had a huge double double for Kapaun, netting 16 points and 17 boards. For the Redskins, they had 2 guys with big scoring games. Joseph Holliman had 26 points, and Kester Bonnin had 24. Interestingly enough, both players shot 16 free throws. In fact, there were 57 total fouls called in the game, and 80 free throws shot! wow! In the end, the Redskins used their experience of being on top, as they won 93-88 in OT. Key Game Recaps Valparaiso @ Southeast -- Another GWAL classic, as both teams had 4 guys in double figures. Abe Bush led Valpo with 19, and Southeasts Douglas Scheffler led all scorers with 24. In the end, Southeast needed a three pointer and couldn't get it. Valpo won 83-80. Kapaun @ Southeast -- Cyril Tyson had another huge game for Kapaun, scoring 30 points and pulling down 6 boards. Southeast had more balanced scoring, putting 5 guys in double figures. Richard Fussell led Southeast with 21. The difference was turnovers. Kapaun had 16, Southeast 8. Southeast won 90-83. Heres a look at the standings going into the last week of the GWAL regular season: Code:
Kapaun took themselves out of the running with 2 losses, and Northwest certainly didn't help their chances by losing twice this week. It's still a 4 team race, but Northwest and Valpo need a lot of help. Southeast controls their own destiny.. winning both their remaining conference games seals it for them. North still has a chance. Really, it's all up to Southeast at this point. |

hoopsguy, surprisingly Northwest is still listed as being in the NCAA tournament according to the bubble watch. They should finish the regular season with 20 wins as they have 3 games this next week. 2 out of conference games which they should roll over, and a game against Detroit. I think they are in if they take care of business this coming week

UNC Asheville (Charlie Shocker) -- 11-16, 8-8 Big South. Good week for Asheville, as they beat the top 2 teams in the Big South, both surprising wins. First they beat Winthrop 89-87, then they beat Presbyterian 56-50.
Michigan State (Deacon Palmer) -- 15-10, 8-6 Big Ten. The losing streak is up to 4 for the Spartans, as they lost both their games this week. First they lost to Michigan 75-71, then lost to Indiana 70-59. Georgia State (Charlie Woods) -- 11-15, 8-8 CAA. Georgia State had a heartbreaking loss to James Madison 59-58, then beat Northeastern 84-66. Memphis (Chris Prewitt) -- 25-2, 11-1 C-USA. The Tigers keep rolling in conference play, first hammering Tulsa 88-61, then hammering East Carolina 75-47. Wichita South (Kuji Chagulia) -- 7-21, 4-13 Horizon. Rumors are already flying about the next coach at Wichita South, as the Titans dropped 2more games this week: getting hammered by Wright State 90-69, and losing to Green Bay 71-58. Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 14-13, 9-4 WAC. Hawaii has 3 more chances to tie their mark for most conference wins in a season. They've been 10-6 twice, and had a good week this week. They beat Utah State 62-54 and squeaked out a win against Nevada, 73-72. Here are the polls for the week beginning Feb. 24, 2020: Code:
Great to see North back in the top 25, would like to see some of our other teams at least getting votes. How about poor Memphis? Win both your games this week, drop a spot in the polls |

Game of the Week North @ Valparaiso - Feb. 27 -- North really needs to win this game to have a chance to win the GWAL regular season title again. At this point, Valpo is just playing for a top 4 seed in the tournament. No key games this week, as the schedule isn't too hot. Game Scores Feb. 24, 2020 Wichita Northwest 94, at North Carolina Central 87 Feb. 25, 2020 Wichita Southeast 76, at Wichita Heights 57 Feb. 27, 2020 Wichita East 61, at Kapaun Mt. Carmel 42 #25 Wichita North 78, at Valparaiso 64 at Detroit 72, Bishop Carroll 64 Feb. 29, 2020 at Wichita Northwest 73, Detroit 58 at #25 Wichita North 75, Wichita Heights 53 at Wichita East 54, Wichita Southeast 45 Valparaiso 87, at Bishop Carroll 81 Game of the Week Recap North @ Valparaiso -- Short and sweet, the Redskins broke open a 4 point halftime lead as they held Valpo to just 34.4% shooting for the game. Wilbert Carnahan had 20 for Valpo, while Joseph Holliman scored 24 for North, and the Redskins won 78-64 to stay in the hunt for the GWAL title. Here are the final GWAL standings: Code:
The loss to East on the last day of GWAL conference play cost Southeast the title outright. However, due to holding the tiebreaker against North (Southeast beat North both games this season), the Buffaloes will get the #1seed in the GWAL tournament. Unfortunately they have to share the GWAL title with the Redskins. Here are the play-in and quarterfinal pairings for the GWAL tournament: In the play-in game: (9) Heights will take on (8) Detroit In the quarterfinals: the Heights/Detroit winner will take on (1) Southeast. (5) Wichita East will take on (4) Valparaiso (6) Kapaun will take on (3) Northwest (7) Bishop Carroll will take on (2) North. |

UNC Asheville (Charlie Shocker) -- 13-16, 10-8 Big South. Mr. Charlie Shocker accomplished 2 feats at UNC Asheville that haven't been accomplished since 2011. First, he led Asheville to 10 wins in the conference season. Second, he led Asheville to double digit victories overall in the season. This week they beat Radford 75-63, then beat High Point 71-57.
Michigan State (Deacon Palmer) -- 17-10, 10-6 Big Ten. The losing streak is over, as the Spartans beat Wisconsin 82-74, then beat Purdue 87-79. They have 2 conference games next week to try and shore up an NCAA tournament at-large berth. Georgia State (Charlie Woods) -- 12-16, 9-9 CAA. Georgia State had a big 80-62 win against UNC Wilmington, then lost to George Mason 80-72. Memphis (Chris Prewitt) -- 27-2, 13-1 C-USA. The Tigers keep rolling, beating up on Tulane 91-74, then beating Houston 84-74. They are already a lock for the NCAA Tournament. Wichita South (Kuji Chagulia) -- 8-21, 5-13 Horizon. The Titans finish the Horizon regular season on a winning note, hammering Youngstown State 73-45. Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 15-14, 10-5 WAC. Hawaii has now tied their highest confrence win total at 10 and will have 1 more conference game next week to break it. This week they lost a hard fought game to Saint Marys 62-60, then got by Fresno State 94-91 in OT. Here are the polls for the week beginning March 2, 2020: Code:
Not much changing in the rankings this week. Memphis went back to #5, North moved up 3 spots. |

2020 GWAL Championship
(4) Valparaiso beats (3) Wichita Northwest 70-62 to win the GWAL championship and get the automatic berth in the NCAA tournament. Congrats to coach Shane Kormelink, as his team is goin dancing. My predictions are this... Valpo goes dancing. Wichita North goes dancing. Wichita Northwest goes dancing. And as much as I hate to admit it, I think the loss to Longwood will drop Wichita Southeast to the NIT. Wichita East and Kapaun Mt. Carmel should be in the NIT or the CBI. Detroit and Bishop Carroll will have to sweat it out. They may sneak into the CIT, but it'll be close. Wichita Heights is done for the year, and I'll be shocked if they don't have a new coach next season. |

UNC Asheville (Charlie Shocker) -- 13-16, 10-8 Big South. Asheville had their conference tournament this week and will be covered later.
Michigan State (Deacon Palmer) -- 19-10, 12-6 Big Ten. The Spartans finished the regular season in style, beating Iowa 74-71, and then beating Penn St. 60-57. Georgia State (Charlie Woods) -- 13-16, 9-9 CAA. They had 1 non-conference game this week, beating Lipscomb 58-49, then played their conference tournament. The record includes the non-conference game but not the tournament. Memphis (Chris Prewitt) -- 29-2, 15-1 C-USA. The Tigers beat Rice 71-55 then beat UTEP 83-64. UTEP is actually a 19 win team, which proves how good Memphis really is. Wichita South (Kuji Chagulia) -- 8-21, 5-13 Horizon. The Titans only had their conference tournament this week, to be covered later. Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 15-15, 10-6 WAC. Bummer for Hawaii who had a chance to have their best conference record, but dropped a game Boise State 77-68. |

Big South Tournament
A dissapointing finish for 4th seed UNC Asheville, as they lost 81-64 to (5) VMI in the first round. Big Ten Tournament 2nd seed Michigan State beat (10) Michigan 79-61 in the quarterfinals, then beat (3) Ohio State in the semifinals, 68-58. The championship was hard fought, but they lost to (1) Illinois 95-89. CAA Tournament 8th seed Georgia State beat (9) James Madison 79-50 in the first round, but lost 84-64 to (1) Hofstra in the quarterfinals. C-USA Tournament 1st seed Memphis beat (9) Marshall 93-70 in the quarterfinals, then beat (5) UAB 86-76 in the semifinals, and won the C-USA championship by beating (6) Tulsa 89-72! Horizon Tournament 9th seed Wichita South got hammered by (4) Loyola-IL in the first round, 83-50. That could very well have been the last game on the Titans bench for Kuji Chagulia. WAC Tournament 3rd seed Hawaii lost to (6) Louisiana Tech 73-57 in the quarterfinals, and B.B. Gunn will have to sweat it out to see if he will have a job next season. |

2020 Selection Sunday
GWAL Wichita North got the 4th seed in the NCAA Midwest Region and will take on (13) Butler in the first round. This is an interesting game as Butler was an option to join the GWAL a few years ago. Wichita Northwest gets the 9th seed in the NCAA South Region and will get (8) Colorado in the first round. Valparaiso gets the 9th seed in the NCAA East Region and will take on (8) Arizona in the first round. Arizona is coached by Bryan Chadwick, the former coach of Wichita Heights, back when they were good. A side note before we move on, I did decide to stop keeping track of the former GWAL coaches that started in the conference that weren't FOFC coaches. Those include Bryan Chadwick, Ryan Hujing, Chris Porter, James Cole, Shane Dreiling, Marty Frankamp, and Mitch Linn. I wish the best for these guys, but it just got to taxing trying to keep tabs on them and how their seasons and postseasons went. I will still follow them, I just won't report on them unless you guys want me to, but I'm sure you most likely won't. Now back to the selection sunday. Bishop Carroll does get into the NIT West Region as the 7th seed. They will host (10) Hartford in the first round. Detroit gets in as the 8th seed in the NIT Midwest Region and will host (9) St. Francis-NY in the first round. Wichita East gets the 7th seed in the NIT Midwest Region and hosts (10) Colgate in the first round. Kapaun Mt. Carmel gets the 5th seed in the NIT South Region and will travel to (4) West Virginia in the second round. Wichita Southeast gets a dissapointing 2nd seed in the NIT East Region and will host the winner of (10) Morehead State and (7) New Mexico State in the second round. Non-GWAL Memphis is the 2nd seed in the NCAA East Region and gets (15) Niagara in the first round. Michigan State was snubbed by the NCAA selection committee, and will go to the NIT as the 3rd seed in the South Region. They'll host (6) UTEP in the second round. No postseason for the following teams: Wichita Heights, UNC Asheville, Georgia State, Wichita South, and Hawaii. |

Very happy to see Northwest heading back to the dance. I think 3 NCAA and 5 NIT marks a pretty good season for the conference as a whole.
Any sense for how conference power rankings sort out? Looks like SEC and Big 12 are particularly tough, based on Top 25. Big Ten doesn't look so hot ... |

hoopsguy, 8 of 9 conference teams in the 2 major postseason tournaments is a great year. but theres still work to do. If all 8 of those teams lose their first game, its meaningless. I would love to see a GWAL team make it to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA's and at least 1 GWAL team go to MSG for the NIT Final Four.
As for the conference RPI rankings, for whatever reason I can't get them to copy and paste over, but I can tell you the GWAL was the 5th best conference, and the Big Ten.. well they were 11th. The SEC was the top conference, followed by the ACC, Big Twelve, Big East, then the GWAL. I take a lot of pride in being the commisioner of the top non-power conference in the NCAA this season! |

* * * On a side note, I'm gonna have to go back in time and review my coaches' histories, since I've been away too long.

1 game that I forgot to mention in the NIT Second Round
(1) Arkansas beat Detroit 78-67. Now back to the current scene. NCAA Elite Eight Memphis kept rolling, this time over (1) Kentucky 94-69. NIT Round of Eight (4) Virginia Tech beat Wichita Southeast 74-67, meaning no more GWAL teams are left. Another year without a postseason title for the GWAL. |

NCAA Final Four
Memphis keeps rolling, beating the (3) seed out of the Midwest Region, Florida, 73-63. NCAA Championship Big congratulations go out to Chris Prewitt, as his Memphis Tigers have just defeated the Duke Blue Devils 83-80 to win the NCAA title! Duke was the #5seed in the South Region. I will probably do a full postseason recap and work on some offseason stuff this weekend. |

Well that was a pretty good first season Hope that I can recruit at a level where we're in contention every season. And wonder if/when Illinois will come calling ...
Was hoping to see one of the GWAL teams break through to the S16, but if the conference can sustain #5 conference rankings for a couple of seasons I would expect the recruiting to pick up to a point where a pair of NCAA wins won't be the equivalent of a double rainbow. |

Guys, I promise I will have the offseason update tomorrow. I am so busy juggling about 10 different projects that sometimes it makes it hard to get to all of them in a timely manner. Thanks for your patience and there will be a report tomorrow.

David Cruz from Alabama beat out Chris Prewitt from Memphis for national coach of the year. Cruz led Alabama to their first ever 30 win season, so he is well deserving of the award. Prewitt finished a close second. Memphis did put one person on the all-NCAA second team. That honor went to Walker Nickerson. Heres a look at the GWAL awards.
Code:
Conference Awards UNC Asheville had Brian Kramer on the All Big South 1st team. Gary Beech made the all Big South freshman team. Michigan State had Rocky Schumacher on the all Big Ten first team and Brian Nicholas on the all Big Ten second team. Georgia State had Gerardo Butler and Everett Braxton on the all-CAA second team. Many awards for Memphis, we'll go over them briefly. As expected, Chris Prewitt does get the C-USA coach of the year award. Also, on the C-USA first team were Rodrick Davis and Walker Nickerson. William Reed and Noe Dowden made all C-USA second team. Wichita South put Kevin Bushman on the All-Horizon freshman team, something to look forward to for next season. Hawaii put Anthony Bush on the All-WAC first team and Henry Smith on the all-WAC second team. |

I am goin to stop here for now. A couple of you requested season previews for your teams, as far as key returners, key losses, etc. I'm going to honor this request, and in order to do so, I need to write down some of this information before I end season, because once I end season, I can't go back and look at last seasons rosters. This might take me a while, so I'll try to get back on tonight with more reports. I am also keeping in mind some coaches might get fired or change teams. If that happens, I will do my best to handle it when it comes time for season previews. Also, I will NOT do every single GWAL team, I will just do the teams that have FOFC coaches, both GWAL and non-GWAL. Is everybody ok with that?

Here is a look at the GWAL recruiting rankings for the 2019-2020 season:
Code:
Great to see 3 of our conference members get in the top 50 in recruiting classes. Shame for Wichita North, Wichita East, and Wichita Heights. I can all but guarantee Heights and/or East will have new coaches. UNC Asheville had the top recruiting class in the Big South, good for 103rd in the nation. Michigan State had the 60th best recruiting class in the nation. Unfortunately it was only the 7th best in the Big Ten, but they did recruit the only 5 star recruit for the conference. Georgia State had the 140th best class in the nation, and 5th best in the CAA. Memphis had the 2nd best recruiting class in the nation, behind only Oklahoma. Obviously, they were the best in the C-USA, with Southern Miss being the next closest at 73. Wichita South had the 146th best recruiting class in the nation, good for 5th best in the Horizon. Maybe if Kuji Chagulia is allowed to stay there one more year, he can do some damage. Hawaii had the 132nd best recruiting class in the nation, good for 4th best in the WAC. |
