Epic failure to flub it once and then try to clear it into two guys from one knee.

Tough one to lose after how the game began but the Kings clearly dominated from about the midway point on. Then again, there was a chance to take the lead on a SH breakaway with under a minute left.

As a Penguins fan, I am used to the headsnap used to draw the highstick call...but even Crosby laughs at this

ETA - I know he did get clipped, I believe in the visor, though this angle doesn't show it

Hurts to see this picture right as Girardi was flubbing the puck initially.

What's wrong with that? Unless one of the two guys by the boards is playing the puck that's a perfectly legal change.

I meant "hurts" because it would have been an excellent chance for a Rangers score if Girardi doesn't have the puck bounce over his stick. McDonagh is already moving up ice quickly and has Zucc joining him, and Brassard is already way up ice in space.

It's a 3 on 1 95% of the time.

Based on the line change, at best you're looking at a 3 on 2 with the highest Kings forward having a chance to get back and make a play if he hits a hard cut and sprints back.

Still could lead to a good chance for the Rangers if their passing is on point on the rush and they don't slow it down too much (to allow the Kings forward to get into the play), but if played properly by the D, should still be a situation where they can allow the outside shot then collapse on any rebound or have a shot at trying to break up any pass made trying for a better shooting chance.

Agreed, there is no 3-on-1 here, and even a 3-on-2 will have to be executed quickly as the trailing Kings forward is already turning back.

Fine. It's a potential 3 on 2. It hurts to see a potential 3 on 2 turn into a GWG the other way 4 seconds later. Happy?

Yes, thanks!

Actually no, because I wanted the Rangers to win too.

I got a good chuckle when one of the crew said "the Kings are finding out what the rest of the Eastern Conference found out about Lundqvist" - because he really came out of nowhere, guys. Those Quick saves on St. Louis and Hagelin were massive. Sure Henrik made a lot of good positional saves in the second half of the game, and a couple of dandies on that Mitchell point shot and the Carter wraparound that could've found its way in - but Quick making those tough saves with little action was very impressive.

That 3rd goal was gifted to LA.

I missed a lot of this game as the Royals were actually on national tv due to the Derek Jeter fadeaway tour

Frankly, I have no love or as little malice as I could have towards an LA or NY team. I'd just like to see 7 OT games

I'm the same way. I'm a Blackhawks fan. Doesn't matter to me who wins, I'm just looking to be entertained and NOT have a heart attack after every shot in an over time.

Such a dive, can't believe they called that. The only thing I can think of is that the ref saw Williams turn his head and then when Nash skated into him thought it was Williams moving into his lane.. which it definitely was not.

If the Kings come out and score 2 quick ones in game 3, this series is over.

Series changer perhaps. If they don't get that gift, they lose 4-3 in regulation and we're looking at an even series going back to NY.

Quite possibly, but you cant assume that. If kings down inside 10 minutes they play differently than they did since if was tied

Agreed, and with the way the Kings have come back already I doubt it would have stood up. My biggest issue with that call is that, if you believe Lundqvist, the ref told him that he didn't make a call because the puck was already past him when contact was made. That was very clearly untrue even without the benefit of replay.

Yep.

(Were this the Flyers, I wouldn't be able to handle it. I'm rooting for the Kings but am not invested, so I can actually enjoy the game.)

Great game. If the Rangers somehow come back in the series, Lundqvist gets the Smythe easily.

If the Kings win tonight iI wonder what the difference in time led versus time trailing is. Might be the worst for any team winning in five games ever.

With all the great chances in OT you just know the winner is going to be a weird pinball play on someone just dumping it at the net.

Year in and year out, I can watch the NHL finals no matter who is playing even if it's my team's arch rival. NBA games these days have been totally unwatchable and I'm not some NBA hater, but...it's a shame hockey isn't more visible, the drama of a playoff hockey game in sudden death is truly exciting.

That said, still hoping LA pulls it out if only because I don't want to deal with the Rangers hoisting the cup for another 25 years or so.

Slightly surprised by Williams as Conn Smythe selection.

Quick wasn't close to as dominant as in 2012, but Doughty drives that team.

that was a great series and the final result of it (won in 5) does not indicate how close the Rangers kept this. Well played by both teams.

That last goal and seeing Lundkvist face down on the ice just showed how heartless the job of a goalie is...

I was thrilled to see Williams get it, but was surprised how it didn't go to Gaborik. Also, what more does a defender need to do to Winn it, Martinez has two OT series clinching goals and doesn't get it.

That was tough. I hope that the people that award the Smythe thought of Lundqvist for at least a quick second. 2.14 GAA and a .927 SV% in 25 starts.
